Chapter Text
This was your first time leaving Piltover. You belonged to a team of Enforcers in Piltover. The council had decided to send her team down to the Undercity. There was an ongoing war, and to the people in Piltover, it was the fault of the people residing in Zaun. They were ordered to patrol the streets, investigate anything suspicious, and take prisoners. Your team had decided to split up into groups of three to cover more ground.
"How much longer do we have to be down here?" a man groaned. This was one of your partners, Jared. He was on the shorter side but had a hell of an aim. "I'm hungryyyy."
"The more you whine, the longer we'll have to look." This is your other partner, Elise. She was a stubborn one, and kept everyone in check, especially Jared. "You'll have to wait to eat, we never know what kind of trouble we could run into down here." It was hard to tell what time of day it was down in Zaun. The three of you were patrolling a more populated and nicer part of the city, although it was hard to tell. The streets were run down and covered in filth, and the buildings were shabby and run down. The particular street you were on was lined with market stalls. There were many pedlers trying to sell anything from old bread to spare mechanical parts.
"We have been out here a while. I'm not really sure what they want us to be looking for, exactly..." you trailed off. "Jared, we're in a market. You can find something to eat, surely?" Elise crossed her arms in protest.
"Nonsense. The food here is filth, and we shouldn't stimulate their economy any further, not that they had much of one to begin with. What, where are you going?" She reached out to grab Jared, but missed. He was already running off to a market stall selling soups. You leaned back against the building behind her and watched Elise chase after Jared.
"Honestly, what am I gonna do with them?" You removed your hat and let down your y/hc hair. It had been a long day, and the only sort of "suspicious activity" you had come across was the occasional homeless shimmer user. Tired and curious, you started walking down the market street. The wares being sold weren't too appealing. The whole city was run down with poverty, so you couldn't expect much. Suddenly, you bumped into someone. This someone grabbed onto your shirt and dragged you into the neighboring alley before you could even blink.
"What do you think you're doing down here, enforcer? We've had enough of your kind roaming our streets and taking us prisoner!" You looked up to see the figure that had forced you away from the group. It was a tall woman with dark skin and straggled black hair. She was littered with scars and bore a mechanical arm.
"We were sent down here to deal with people such as yourself." You stared dead into this woman's brown eyes. "Now, if you don't mind unhanding me, we can forget this chat happened and go on our separate ways." You crossed your arms, waiting for a reaction.
"As if I would let you go, you filthy pig! You don't want to know what I'm capable of, so don't push your luck." The woman got into your face. You could feel her threatening aura. You sighed.
"What do you want? I have jewels if that's what you're looking for." The woman laughed.
"Jewels? You think I want jewels? You enforcers sure are full of yourselves, aren't you?" She gritted her teeth and released her hold on you. "You're gonna give me information."
"And if I don't?" You raised an eyebrow.
"If you don't, then I'll kill you. You enforcers are of no use to me." You studied the woman before you. She was disheveled and sweaty, and her clothes were covered in blood. You had no doubt in her mind that she had just killed someone and was fully capable of doing the same to you.
"What information could you possibly gather from me? I'm simply just passing by." You looked down, hiding your face. You had to keep this woman from finding out about your partners. You didn't want to risk their safety. You began to sprint down the alleyway in the opposite direction of the market. If you could lose this woman, it would be for the best. You ran and ran, without looking back, twisting and turning down the different side roads and alleys. After a while, you stopped. You bent over, gasping for a breath. Sweat dripped down your face. *Damnit,* you thought. You had lost your hat somewhere along the way. But at least you had gotten away. You began to walk towards the main street that you could see when a figure stepped in front of you.
"I live here. I know every street and every building. You really thought you could run away from me? In my own turf?"
