Work Text:
Heinrix woke in the quiet hours of the night. He sat up slowly, careful not to wake Evangeline, who was curled up next to him, still deep asleep. He swung his legs over the edge of the bed and glanced around. The metal panels covering the window had been lowered and kept the room just barely perceptible. He focused on his eyes, enhancing his vision enough to help him see his clothes that had been strewn across the room the night before.
Before he rose, the soft touch of fingertips caressed his back.
He felt the bed shift behind him, followed by the warm press of a soft body against his back. Eva embraced him from behind and rested her chin on his shoulder.
“Leaving already? How long have we been asleep?” She asked sleepily, as she began to nuzzle his neck.
“Only a few hours. I wish I could stay, but I'm already behind on my duties.”
“Are you going to mention tonight in your reports?” She murmured into his ear, before giving his earlobe a light nibble.
Heinrix let out a chuckle. Even he was impressed by the considerable amount of willpower he exerted to not to turn around and pin her down on the bed.
“Lord Inquisitor,” he began matter-of-factly, “I'm writing to inform you that Lady Evangeline von Valancius has a rather peculiar mole situated right between her–”
The shove was expected, and he took the opportunity to stand up. He turned and looked at Evangeline, who beamed at him. She was never more beautiful to him than when she was like this: relaxed, unguarded—happy.
He leaned down and kissed her deeply on the mouth.
“I wish I could stay here with you for a while longer, even just an hour.”
