Sam and Viv were hanging out by the lake. They had decided to take a little walk—just the two of them. It wasn’t something they got to do often, but today felt like the perfect chance.
Still, Sam couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Viv looked suspicious, like she was waiting for the right moment to say something.
“Sam?” Viv said quietly.
“Mhm,” Sam replied, kicking at the rocks near the water.
“I think I have a crush on Riri,” Viv blurted out, squeezing her eyes shut like she was bracing for impact.
“WHAT?” Sam shouted, spinning around to look at her like she had just confessed to a crime.
“Is that… a bad thing?” Viv cracked one eye open to peek at him.
“God, no, Viv! It’s not bad, I’m just… shocked. Yeah. Shocked,” Sam said, waving his hands around for emphasis.
Viv sighed and sank down onto the rocks, hugging her knees to her chest. “Should I confess my feelings to her?” she asked, sounding defeated.
Sam sat down beside her, looking thoughtful. “Viv, if you really like her, you should go for it. And just saying… I think I’ve caught her eyeing you for a while.” He nudged her shoulder with his.
Viv’s eyes lit up instantly. “REALLY?!” she shouted, turning to face him fully.
“Yep, yep. I speak only the truth,” Sam said with a grin, his friend’s excitement rubbing off on him.
Without warning, Viv threw her arms around him, pulling him into a tight hug. “THANK YOU, THANK YOU!” she squealed, squeezing him with all her strength.
“Viv… can’t… breathe,” Sam wheezed, tapping her back in surrender.
She immediately let go, laughing sheepishly. “Right… sorry.” She rubbed the back of her neck.
“Well, we should get going,” Sam said, standing up and offering her a hand.
Viv took it, and together they started their journey back.
