In Your Arms, At Last.

Summary:

The seer obviously wasn't expecting the detective to take his hands in his own, the act startling him slightly. He saw those playing eyes, knowing how much this relationship meant to him. It meant the same to White. “Okay, I believe you.” He replied after a moment, leaving down to bury his face back into the warmth of Inference's neck.

The detective continued to place kisses all over his face, knowing how much the seer relished the feeling. Inference knew White had a soft spot for him, and he always knew how to get it out of him. “I’m glad,” He smiled against his skin, his arms moving to wrap around him and pull him in closer. “I love you, darling.”

“I love you too.” White murmured back, moving to place a few kisses on Inference's skin, from his neck where his face was buried in his neck.

Work Text:

The dim glow of the desk lamp flickered against the stacks of case files, casting long shadows across the cluttered surface. Mr. Inference leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled beneath his chin as his sharp gaze flicked over the latest report. A string of bizarre incidents—disappearances, strange sightings, cryptic messages left at crime scenes. Nothing overtly supernatural, yet something about the pattern gnawed at him.

With a quiet sigh, he slid the file across the desk. It landed just in front of White, the seer’s pale fingers resting lightly on the worn edges. “What do you think?”

Though, the detective was met with a quiet whine in return, White looking at him through that blindfold that never left his face. It looked like he was almost… pouting. “Another one?”

Inference only raised an eyebrow. “Why, of course there's another one. I’ve got plenty of you'd want to look at them.” He chuckled, leaning back in his chair slightly.

The seer was not satisfied. He slid the case file back to the detective and crossed his arms.

“What seems to be the matter, darling?” Inference immediately caught onto the seer’s pouting act, seeing how he crossed his arms and leaned back into the chair.

“Always you and your cases,” The seer started, his voice coming out quieter than he intended it to. “You don’t have the time for me.” He huffed.

The detective knew something like this would pop up sometime, and he only let out a small laugh. “Oh, darling, you know I try to make all the time in the world for you,” He leaned more back into his chair, holding out his arms. “Come here.”

White had already started moving, getting up out of his seat to sit on Inference’s lap instead, wrapping his hands around him and burying his face into his neck with a soft sigh. Inference noticed this, a small sound of surprise leaving his lips as the seer became so clingy in the matter of seconds.

White didn’t speak in response, only a low whine coming from him as he stayed in the same place, unmoving.

“Don't give me that look, darling.” Inference started, beginning to pepper his face and neck with kisses, taking his time to savor the feeling of his skin against his own lips. “You know I try.”

“I know, it's just…” White sighed, taking a minute to stop and think about how he was going to word it. “I don’t want you so stuck in your cases that you forget all about me.”

“My love,” The detective started again, moving the seer away from his neck to fully look at him. “You know I wouldn’t forget about you. I'm sorry that I get too stuck in my cases, but those will never change how I feel about you.” He smiled, moving a hand to cup White’s cheek.

The seer didn’t respond, only a sad look on his face. He knew Inference meant it, but he just couldn't bring himself to trust it.

And he hated that.

“How do I know you're not lying?” He said after a moment, his hands idly playing with the tie on Inference’s shirt.

Inference only replied with a small cock of his eyebrow, as if he knew the seer was suspecting his loyalty. “And why would I do that? Darling, I'd rather be with you every second of the day than go through many cases at a time.” He brought the seer’s hands in his own, looking at him with an almost pleading expression. “Please believe me.”

The few moments between them afterwards was quiet, the two just sitting there enjoying the other's company and relishing in the closeness of it all. White was always clingy when it came to inference and him being alone, not being able to help himself.

The silence was soon broken by Inference clearing his throat, leaning forward slightly to try and pry the seer off of him. “I think I’ll take the rest of my shift off, let's go home.”

The seer quickly agreed, moving to get off of Inference and stretching out his stiff bones from the uncomfortable position of the chair.

As the door clicked shut behind them, White let out a soft sigh, rolling his shoulders to ease the tension from their long day. Inference followed, setting down his stuff by the entryway before reaching up to undo the buttons of his coat.

White carefully placed his belongings aside, ever meticulous even in his exhaustion. His gaze flickered to Inference, watching as the other man carelessly tossed his hat onto a nearby chair. A small smile played at White’s lips. Some things never changed.

Without a word, Inference reached for White’s wrist, tugging him gently but insistently toward the bedroom. White let himself be led, their steps quiet against the wooden floor. The air inside was warm, welcoming—a stark contrast to the cold night outside.

As soon as they crossed the threshold, Inference sighed and shrugged off his coat, letting it drop onto the bed before collapsing onto the mattress with a quiet groan. White chuckled softly, moving with more care as he sat beside him, brushing his fingers against Inference’s hand.

“Tired?” White murmured.

“Exhausted,” Inference admitted, cracking one eye open to look at him. “But you’re here, so it’s worth it.”

White huffed a soft laugh, warmth spreading in his chest as he laced their fingers together. It was a quiet, unspoken promise—coming home, setting all of their burdens aside, and finding peace in each other’s presence.

White moved to lay beside the detective, soon being met with the familiar embrace of the man's arms wrapping around his body. A small sigh of contentment came from him, letting himself be wrapped in the man’s warmth.

The detective placed lazy kisses against the back of his neck, gently pulling him in closer, wanting to have his lover by his side always. “Goodnight, my love.” He murmured, pressing one last kiss to his neck.

“Goodnight, dear.” White replied with a small smile, enjoying the way the detective kissed him, the feeling of his lips on his skin making him melt. He let himself be pulled in, wanting the closeness to last forever.

The two soon fell into a deep slumber, holding one another in each other's arms tightly, never letting go.
