Chapter 1: day one: drizzle | epel felmier

Chapter Text

The drizzle had started slow, a few stray drops speckling the stone pathway outside Ramshackle Dorm where Yuu and Epel had been sprawled out, doodling with sticks of colorful chalk. They had spent the last hour filling the ground with swirling patterns, little creatures, flowers, and (mostly on Epel’s part) ridiculous caricatures of their friends and the teachers.

Then the rain came.

At first, it was nothing– just a faint mist in the air. But soon, thin rivulets of water traced down the stones; not a lot, just a soft drizzle, but enough to soften the chalk until the colors blurred into hazy smears.

Epel let out a frustrated groan as the two of them sat under the overhanging roof by the front door of Ramshackle, tossing his last piece of chalk off to the side as his brows furrowed in annoyance. “Dang it, why is it raining now of all times? Why not later?”

Yuu, sitting cross-legged beside him, only smiled. “Guess nature had other plans.”

Epel huffed, leaning back on his hands, watching the streaks of pastel colors melt together on the pathway several feet bedore him. His lavender hair clung slightly to his forehead from the damp air. “We spent all that time makin’ it look nice, and now it’s just… gone.”

Yuu tilted their head, watching as a little stream of pink and blue and yellow swirled together and down into a crack in the stone. “Eh, I dunno. I think it looks kinda pretty like this.”

Epel turned to them, raising an eyebrow. “You’re weird.”

Yuu shrugged with a vague gesture of their hand, letting the mist settle on their skin. “Maybe. But we can always draw it again, right?”

For a second, Epel just stared at them, clear blue eyes thoughtful, then let out a quiet chuckle. “Yeah… I guess we can.”

They sat there a little longer, just watching the rain wash the world clean, until the stone path was nothing but wet grey again– ready for whatever they’d create next.
