Work Text:

“JUUUUUDGEMEEEEENT!”

The brunette looked up from the flowers she was staring at intently, her short, fluffy hair swaying with the motion. Her eyes widened as she realized who had called her name.

“Oh, hey, Death!”

Judgement smiled, showing off the slight gap in her teeth. Her bright skin shone in the sunlight, as well as her pure white wings. She looked as if she was made of the rays of sunlight, as if they were weaved together and turned human.

Death stopped in front of Judgement, panting heavily. She had run half the distance of Magical Land just to find Judgement. She’d never felt this way for anyone before. Well, she had… feelings for Hierophant as well, but not as strongly as what she felt for Judgement.

Which was strange.

Death was supposed to go around, chopping off heads, picking fights and watching as others died at her feet. She wasn’t supposed to have these… these unnecessary feelings. She wasn’t supposed to feel love. But she couldn’t deny what Judgement made her feel. The way Judgement’s smile warmed her heart, how angelic Judgement seemed in the morning light of the sun, how even in the darkest of days, Judgement seemed to shine.

There was no denying it. Death loved Judgement, plain and simple.

“Soooo… Whatcha doin’ here? Got any heads you need to chop off?”

Judgement winked and giggled. Death’s heart was pounding. It was from the running, not Judgement! She didn’t love Judgement, she didn’t, she didn’t, she didn’t-

“Ah, yeah, haha… “

It was now or never, she had to say it…

“Hey, Deathy, whatcha got behind your back?”

“Deathy”? Judgement had never called her that. What was with the sudden nickname? Oh, she’d asked a question!

“Well, I… Judgement… I have something to- to tell you… “

Death’s hands were sweating, shaking intensely. She closed her eyes, breathing rapidly. Calm down, calm down! You don’t want Judgement to sense your fear... You need to be confident! Death clutched the item she had grabbed behind her back. She breathed in deeply, trying to calm her nerves. She opened her eyes and looked at Judgement. She cocked her head to the side, looking confused and… was that worry in her eyes?

“Yeah?”

This was the moment. Death looked down at the ground, slowly pulling the gift from behind her back. She breathed in deeply once more and…

“Judgement, I… I… I love you!!”

Death practically yelled her confession, whipping her arms out in front of her with the flowers she had brought for Judgement: apple blossoms. She’d gone to the garden in the fields near the Magical Market to pick them, though High Priestess nearly blew up at her about taking the flowers. A simple threat from Death of using her scythe on High Priestess’ neck shut her up. On her way to where Judgement was, many gave Death odd looks. Death, the one known for chopping off heads and her blood thirstiness, with bright pink flowers? It was certainly a sight to see.

Death began to worry. Judgement had gone silent, staring at her and the flowers. Had she said something wrong? Has she gone too far? Maybe Judgement didn’t feel the same way. Maybe she hated Death no-

As Death’s thoughts were spiraling, Judgement wrapped her arms around Death’s shorter frame, pulling Death against her. Death was startled, and dropped the flowers, before wrapping her arms around Judgement, and relaxing against her. She buried her face in Judgement’s neck, inhaling her scent. She smelled oddly… sweet.

“Death, I… I love you too.”

Judgement whispered her words so quietly that it was hard to hear her, as close as Death was. But she heard it, loud and clear. As Death basked in her lover’s warmth, Judgment encased the two of them in her wings, hiding them both from the world. The wind picked up, and blew petals from the tree the two women were standing under during this entire interaction. All around them swirled the petals, some getting caught on Judgement’s wings. The flowers that would soon become a symbol of their love…

Apple blossom flowers.
