Just…why?

Summary:

Doing that I spot Agatha. Shit. Slowly and quietly walking away I try to avoid getting her attention, when suddenly….

„Whyyyyy! What. The. Fuck! After all those years! I didn’t need to commit anything………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..“

Agatha makes a big inhale after shouting out what seems to be... A revelation to her? I stop right in my tracks. I know I shouldn’t listen. I should just go. It isn’t proper to eavesdrop, but still… Whatever it is Agatha is talking about. It’s intriguing. She’s even cursing like a normal. Or Simon. Merlin, leave it to Simon to ruin your vocabulary.

Notes:

Hear ye! Hear ye!

It’s a fun stroy I wrote just so I can take a short break from the other two stories I need to work on and a small read so that you don’t get bored waiting.

Work Text:

Baz

I take a stroll outside after draining a few rats.

Doing that, I spot Agatha. Shit. Slowly and quietly walking away, I try to avoid getting her attention when suddenly…

"Whyyyyy! What. The. Fuck! After all those years! I didn’t need to commit anything with a boy! Nothing! Hell, I could have managed to get here wayyyyy earlier."

Agatha takes a big inhale after shouting out what seems to be... a revelation to her? I stop right in my tracks. I know I shouldn’t listen. I should just go. It isn’t proper to eavesdrop, but still… Whatever it is Agatha is talking about, it’s intriguing. She’s even cursing like a normal person. Or like Simon. Merlin, leave it to Simon to ruin your vocabulary.

I step closer, careful not to rat myself out.

Agatha’s face is a mix of confusion, anger, relief, and puffy eyes (probably from crying before).

She sucks in a sharp breath before continuing to shout out whatever it is that she’s worried about—to the merewolves.

I let myself think, just for a second, that maybe Agatha is crying because Simon told her he doesn’t want to get back together and that he’s deeply in love with me.

Circe, I wouldn’t be able to believe that for more than a few seconds. It’s not going to happen.

Agatha and Simon will get back together in at least two weeks.

Then again, she was talking about not needing to commit to any boy. Did Simon really break her heart?

"And why her?! Couldn’t it have been someone else?! Someone that I would meet after Watford? What if I want to move to California and she wants to stay here?! COnNEcT wItH MAgIC?! URG."

She sinks down and hugs her knees tightly.

Christ, I have never seen so much emotion leave Agatha’s body. I didn’t even know she had it in her to be so dramatic.

Okay, no, I did know that, but not like this.

Who’s the girl she’s talking about, and why is it necessary for her to know whether this girl would come with her?

California. Huh, that’s new. Simon would never leave Watford behind.

And Agatha’s not talking about Penny, I think.

"God damn it.“ she says quietly now, but with my hearing ability, I can still pick out what she’s saying.

"Why did it have to be a girl? How will my parents even react? They better be nice, ’cause I’m not gonna let her go once I get her to be my girlfriend."

She slumps against the wall and looks up into the sky.

What.

Does that mean Agatha’s gay?

So there is no way she and Simon are getting back together.

This new knowledge makes my heart want to jump right out, run to him, and tackle him with joy.

I let myself immerse in that feeling, just enough to not recognize that Agatha has already spotted me.

"Basilton?" she looks stunned, then angry. "Wait, have you been eavesdropping?!"

Shit.

Agatha

I just can’t. I can’t. With both of them.

Before, Simon would always try to find me, sticking to me like gum.

I know that’s not a particularly nice thing to think about your ex-boyfriend and still friend, but it is also a fact.

Now, Baz just witnessed my whole confession, and I can’t decide whether he would tell anybody.

I take a step forward while he takes one back.

Alright, I won’t wait or explain anything.

I really don’t care right now.

I pull my wand out of my dress pocket and cast.

"Stand still!"

He stops and snarls.

"What."

I don’t dignify that with an answer and just step up to him, taking his hand in mine and holding my wand up.

"Shared secrets are best to keep!"

Baz

Shit.

I feel the words trying to leave my mouth, trying to spill a secret of mine.

I glare at Agatha, but she just looks at me.

"You already know mine, but whatever, I’m gay and in love with Niamh. Now you. The spell won’t leave you before you reveal an equally important secret of yours. So better get started, because I want a backup plan just in case you tell anyone."

I want to throw back a comment at her but keep my lips locked.

"Come on.  Speak up! I don’t have all night."

She looks annoyed now.

I shouldn’t have eavesdropped. I should have just kept going.

"I’m gay and in love wi—" I slap a hand over my mouth.

Agatha stands there. Stunned.

"You’re gay? But why were you flirting with me all those times? What could you even get out of me breaking up with Simon and getting together with y—"

She stops when suddenly her eyes widen.

"Oh—Ooooh."

I stand there, not opening my mouth so I don’t reveal who I’m in love with. But I guess that won’t be necessary. Merlin.

"You’re in love with Simon!"

"No—…yes."

"This makes way too much sense now. You tried to get me away from him so he stays single." Her face breaks out in a wide grin, almost manic.

"Wow, you really are pathetic." More giggles.

"Says the one who tells all her sorrows to the merewolves."

"No, Baz, you don’t get to play cool right now. You’re in love and show it like a misunderstood toddler, trying to get his attention by throwing something at him just so he looks at you. You can’t stand him having his eyes somewhere else but on you. Pfft—this is fun."

I sigh.

"Stop it, please."

Agatha gasps.

"Did I just hear a ‘please’? Oh, you’re in deep!"

"Alright! I get it. I’m pathetic. Can you let me go now?"

Her smile softens.

"Alright. But just so you know, that probably won’t make him think you want to date him."

"I know. That’s the plan."

She steps back and lifts her hands in defense, still smiling.

"Okay, okay. You should still try. I don’t think he can hold a grudge forever. Or is fully straight."

With that, she seals the spell and lets me move.

"What do you mean by that?"

"I’m just saying that maybe it isn’t very straight to rant on about ‘how good your nemesis looks in absolutely everything’ or ‘how it is normal to think blokes are sexy and very attractive,’ is it?"

I blush at that. (Damn those rats.)

Did he—did he say that?

But before I can ask, Agatha is already on her way to the girls’ sleeping quarters.

And I can’t help but think that I got myself an accidental ally as well as a possibly real chance with Snow.
