Work Text:
Sanemi’s deep purple eyes were always surrounded with gorgeous and sharp black liner. He’d wake up every day a bit earlier to make sure he would have enough time to put it on, at this point he had mastered the art, you don’t even remember the last time he had to fix it.
However, on the days when you guys didn’t leave home, like today, he wouldn't wear it. Maybe in some way he considered it part of his uniform, which is sort of a bummer because it really does fit him. As you sat in front of him while having some tea, you couldn’t help but wonder.
“When did you star wearing eyeliner?” His brows furrowed instantly, “I’m not sure” he said with a nonchalant shrug of his shoulders, “Probably ever since I moved away from home”. You nodded, he used that term very lightly, ‘moving away from home’ as if everyone left in the same circumstances he did, he stared at the floor and fuck, you just made him feel bad because you made the silence too long. You took a sip of your tea to collect your thoughts.
“Do you think I could do it for you one day?” he slowly looked up, Sanemi wasn’t one to be very open about his feelings, it had been hell learning how to read him, but by now you considered him an open book, even if most people didn’t agree. “You want to?” The subtle pink under his eyes told you everything you needed to know about where he stood on this.
“Of course I do”, a warm smile on your face. His eyes somehow looked more intimidating without the liner which is something you always found quite interesting, it was like he was staring into your soul with no interruptions; but there was always a softness hiding in his stare, at least when he was looking at you.
“Why don’t ya try now?” Your eyebrows shot up “Like now, now?”, he found your question amusing “Well yeah, we don’t really have anywhere to go so… hey, if you’re shit at it, it’s fine”, your jaw dropped slightly “Is that a challenge Mr. Shinazugawa?” He rolled his eyes, “Take it as you will”. You stood up, making the chair you were previously sitting on move back as you put both hands flat on the table, “Challenge taken.” He smirked as a low chuckle left his lips.

“Okay sit”, you say as you point at the toilet.
“Damn, someone’s feeling bossy” Sanemi mumbles as he sits down. “Hey, I heard that! I’ll let you know that I take my craft seriously, I need you to do as I say for the best results” a slight giggle leaves your lips, unable to take yourself seriously when all you’re gonna do is put eyeliner on him.
You’re both quiet as you carefully start drawing “If you open up your eyes while I’m working and you mess this up we are so over.” You feel him smirk against the palm of your hand which is leaning on his cheek for extra support. The angle is a bit odd, you quickly realize this is not the easiest position to work in, having to bend in order to reach Sanemi’s eyes without bumping against the toilet.
A few years ago, a mission left you with a bad back, there was only so much Shinobu could do after you had been thrown around like a rag doll by a larger demon. Retiring after the incident didn’t even cross your mind; getting back to training as fast as you could did. Truly, you were left with little complications, yet sometimes your body decides to remind you of the painless life you lived before
You feel a stabbing pain on your back as soon as you’re finished drawing the guide for the liner. You stand, and the pain gets worse, your face scrunching in discomfort. “You okay hun?” Sanemi asks, hand around your hip. “Yeah it’s alright, you know how my back gets, guess my posture isn’t helping.”
You massage your lower back with your hands. You frown, this method is clearly not working, however having Sanemi stand up simply wouldn’t work, your arm would fall asleep before you’re able to finish one eye.
Lost in thought you fail to realize the way Sanemi’s eyes soften. A smirk ghosts his face when he realizes this is actually a pretty easy fix. His hands wrap around your waist as he gently pulls you forward and down, making you sit on his lap. “Oh well I guess this is better” you say stuttering as blush stains your cheeks pink.
You’d think that after a while of dating Sanemi moments like this wouldn’t make you feel flustered and act like a high school kid with a crazy crush, but honestly, it was just inevitable.
“Yeah I guess so” he said teasing, his hands resting on your thighs, a firm but gentle grip on them. You stared at each other for a few seconds, him admiring you, and you just trying to keep it together and not melt into a puddle.
