Chapter Text

Asha

Sometimes Asha really couldn't take it. How could Sabino not understand? Magnifico had his Wish, and it wouldn't ever be granted! Shouldn't he deserve to know it, even if it wouldn't happen?

Asha was sitting, her face scrunched in anger, at the tree. Her safe space. Nothing could hurt her here, not even Magnifico's stupid Wish rules.

What was the point of even taking everyone's wishes if he wasn't going to grant most of them anyway? It wasn't fair. The people of Rosas didn't deserve to be lied to.

When Asha got worked up like this, she liked to write songs. The songs would help her escape into her own world where whatever she wrote would be reality. She'd been working on a song recently, but it wasn't one she was ready to share with her mother and Sabino yet.

She pulled out the little book in her cloak pocket, it's soft leather shifting slightly beneath her touch. As she opened it, turning each page delicately, the paper crinkled in it's own music. Gentle and quiet with the breeze. That was a song all in itself. A song she could listen to for hours.

When she finally found the page she was looking for, she set the book down in a crook of the tree, and started to sing, softly at first, and then stronger each line.

"You pull me in like some kind of wind
Mesmerized by the hold I'm in
Leave you here, I don't wanna
I wanna
Promise as one does
I, I will protect you at all costs
Keep you safe here in my arms
I, I will protect you at all costs
At all costs."

Promise as one does. No, no. That didn't sound right. But she wasn't sure what else to put there. Nothing sounded as right, nothing quite... fit.

Truth be told, she'd never felt the way her song did. She'd never had anyone to hold onto, not in this way.

She looked up at the stars. The heavens shone brightly, the biggest star twinkling over the little island just out at sea. She realized, with a pang of sadness, that she had no one to hold under the beauty of the stars.

But that was fine. She didn't need anyone to hold. A connection like that would hold her back. But, they would inspire her songs, her family.

"No. Stop Asha. Your family needs you more than you need something selfish like..." She trailed off. "But sometimes I do wish-"

The biggest star was getting bigger. Really fast! It almost seemed to fly towards her, faster than she ever thought light could go. The gold surrounded her and the forest grew bright as day. So bright! Then she couldn't see anything at all! The last thing Asha heard before her head hit the tree was a small, "Are you okay?"
