Let's Get Married

Summary:

Jeremy Johnson is ready to take the next step in his relationship with Candace and he get her whole friends and Family in on their proposal.

Chapter Text

The cicadas buzzed lazily in the warm Danville air as Jeremy Johnson stood at the edge of the Flynn-Fletcher walkway, staring up at the cheerful suburban home with a velvet box clutched in his hand. His heartbeat thudded like a drumline—an odd feeling for someone who could usually keep his cool, even when Candace was in full meltdown mode.

He had rehearsed the words a hundred times in front of his bathroom mirror. He even practiced a mock conversation with a very confused cat. But standing here now, the gravity of what he was about to do hit him like a falling satellite.

Deep breath, man. You’ve got this.

He reached up and rang the doorbell.

The door opened with a creak, revealing Linda Flynn-Fletcher wearing gardening gloves and holding a trowel. She tilted her head, eyebrows raised in pleasant surprise. “Jeremy! What a nice surprise. Candace isn’t home, sweetheart—she and Stacy went to the mall.”

“Oh, that’s okay,” Jeremy said, shifting his weight awkwardly. “Actually... I was hoping to talk to you and Mr. Flynn-Fletcher. And, uh, Phineas and Ferb too, if they’re around.”

Linda’s eyes twinkled with the unmistakable spark of motherly intuition. “Well, that sounds serious. Come on in, dear.”

The living room was warm with sunlight streaming through the windows. The scent of fresh cookies wafted in from the kitchen, and somewhere in the background, a jazz record was softly playing.

Lawrence was on the couch with a gardening magazine spread across his lap. Phineas and Ferb were at the coffee table, surrounded by blueprints, wires, and what appeared to be a half-finished quantum hummingbird feeder. Perry lounged innocently nearby on the rug, head tucked into his tail.

Linda took a seat beside her husband and smiled encouragingly. “Okay, Jeremy. We’re all ears.”

Jeremy swallowed hard, then stood a little straighter. “So, uh... I know I’m not the kind of guy who usually makes big speeches. But I love Candace. I’ve loved her since, like, eighth grade. And over the years, we’ve grown up a lot—especially her. She’s strong, passionate, kinda intense, but... amazing. And I want to spend the rest of my life with her.”

He pulled the small velvet box from his pocket and opened it, revealing a simple, elegant ring with a diamond flanked by twin opals—Candace’s birthstone.

“I came here to ask if I could have your blessing. All of you.”

The silence was so thick, you could hear Ferb’s screwdriver click.

Then—

“Whoa!” Phineas said, jumping up with a wide grin. “That’s awesome! I always figured you two would end up together. Right, Ferb?”

Ferb gave a small smile and a thumbs-up.

Lawrence removed his reading glasses, setting them aside as he leaned forward. “Jeremy, it’s rare these days to see such sincere intention in a young man. If you’re asking whether we trust you to love our daughter... then yes. Absolutely.”

Linda wiped a tear from her eye, her smile bright and full of pride. “We’ve always thought of you as part of the family. Candace will be lucky to have you.”

Jeremy exhaled, a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. “Thank you. Seriously.”

Phineas leaned across the table, eyes sparkling. “So, do you want us to help with the proposal? Because I’m already getting ideas.”

Ferb silently held up a small notepad where he had sketched a mechanical flower that bloomed into a ring box.

Jeremy laughed. “I was hoping you’d say that.”

Behind them, Perry gave a quiet platypus purr, secretly transmitting an alert to OWCA. In the agency’s files, the code read: “EVENT: Significant Milestone. OPERATION: Engagement Support.”

As Jeremy left the house with a lighter step and a full heart, the sun dipped low over Danville, painting the sky in shades of peach and lavender. Somewhere in the distance, Candace was ranting to Stacy about mall parking lot conspiracy theories, completely unaware of the sparkling future waiting just around the corner.

Phineas turned to Ferb.

“So, Ferb... I know what we’re gonna do tomorrow.”

Ferb looked up from his notepad and nodded.

“Build the ultimate proposal machine?” he said in his British lilt.

Phineas grinned. “Proposal machine... with lasers.”
