- Can you Teach Me How?
It was a cold day at the farmhouse. Fall was in the air, April had gone into town and brought back groceries for that evening’s dinner.
Lorelei shivered, wrapping her shawl more around herself, her tail swishing as she tried to wrap it around herself a bit for warmth.
“It’s definitely soup night.” She nodded to herself.
Taking turns cooking had become something she really loved about living with the turtles.
Of course, Donnie was banned from the roster but Lorelei was grateful for that.
Today was going to be different.
“Dee!” She called as she headed inside, her voice sweet as honey.
Lorelei carefully slipped into her role, her steps a careful bounce, her tail swishing.
She found Donnie sitting at the kitchen table, tinkering with his shell cell.
Donnie froze up at her tone before looking up.
Lorelei beamed, her eyes gleaming as she leaned against the table.
“Well, hey, handsome.” She said, smiling brightly.
Donnie looked up with a startled chirp, his face flushing a dark olive green. He rubbed the back of his neck.
He still wasn’t used to this.
“H… Hi, Lori… What’s up?”
“I have a job for ya!” She said, her voice so bright and cheerful.
He hated when she used that voice. It was her acting voice, the one she used when she was absolutely up to no good and he knew it.
“Oh really now?”
“Mm-hm!” Her eyes narrowed, grinning at him. “You’re helping me tonight in the kitchen!”
Donnie nearly dropped his soldering tool.
“WHAT!?”
“You heard me.”
“No.” He shook his head vehemently. “Hell no! Last time I cooked, I caused an incident.”
“That’s why you’re going to learn. C’mon, it’s me…”
Her gaze softened, her voice lowering to her normal tone.
She leaned in, pushing her forehead against his.
“Nooo, stop that.”
She nuzzled him, trilling.
Donnie rolled his eyes with a chuckle, nuzzling her nose with his beak.
“You’re such a brat…”
‘You love me~”
“I do, but you’re still a brat.”
“And you’re still helping me.”
oooooo
“See, this is what we call lawless cooking. You can’t screw it up.” Lorelei smirked.
Donnie looked at the arrangement of ingredients on the counter.
“Lawless cooking?” He raised a brow.
“Trust me on this. We’re making my mom’s recipe for gnocchi soup. If ADAM can learn to do this, you can too.”
Donnie was not going to be out done by his future brother in law…
Hell.
No.
“Bring it on!”
Got ‘em.
Over the next hour, Lorelei went over the recipe with him… and tasting every step of the way.
Lorelei was patient with him, Donnie appreciating that she wasn’t rushing him or getting annoyed.
The radio on the window sill blasting the classic rock station…
Before long, they had a simmering pot of creamy soup.
“And that’s it?”
“That’s it.” Lorelei lifted a spoon to his lips. “C’mon, try it.”
He took a taste… before churring a bit.
‘Oh… That is delicious.”
“Right?”
Lorelei took a taste for herself and let out a happy trill, her tail swishing.
Donnie laughed a bit, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
“Good, huh?”
“It tastes just like it should… and YOU did that.”
‘We did it.” He rested his head against hers. “Thanks for this.”
“How’d you like cooking together?”
She looked up at him, hopefully.
Donnie’s heart melted at that look, kissing her head.
“It was a lot of fun… Thanks, Lori.”
“Anytime. You give me a kick in the tail when I need it.”
“Still…”
“C’mon, let’s go feed the savages and redeem you to your sister.”
“SHE TOLD YOU THAT?!”
“She tells me EVERYTHING!”
Shell.
