Work Text:
“In through the front door, around the back,” Davrin murmurs as Rook arrives. She hesitates. The door is ajar, and she sees him looking intently at the needles in his hands as he slowly knits his way through the yarn, using the rhyme she taught him.
Davrin had wanted her to take back her project after their lesson, but she’d insisted he keep it, for practice.
“Peep through the window, and off jumps Jack!” he concludes, clearly satisfied. Rook beams with an abundance of pride — something Davrin doesn’t need to know about — and turns. Assan chirps, preventing her quiet exit.
