Work Text:
After handing over his unconscious professor to the archbishop and his group disbanded, Dimitri made his way to the stableyard. Where his beloved, Marianne, was waiting for him.
They immediately embraced each other as if they had been separated for far too long. His right arm wrapped around her waist, and his left hand was placed on the back of Marianne's head. Bringing her closer to him that their foreheads met.
“Oh, Marianne.” He whispered his affection in her ear. “I’m sorry that I’ve left you so abruptly. When we heard Jeralt’s murderer had been spotted at the Sealed Forest. We couldn’t miss the opportunity to strike.”
“I understand, Mitya. I’m just happy you and the others are back safe. But what happened to our professor? His hair…it looks different.” Marianne asked him, sounding very worried.
“He’s exhausted after getting caught in a trap. But by some miracle, he obtained some new power that helped him escape. Which also caused his hair color to change.” He explained some of the events that transpired at the Sealed Forest. “In the end, we managed to avenge Jeralt.”
“That’s good…”
Dimitri noticed something was off about her. Though she looked relieved on the surface, her soft brown eyes tell a different story. Not to mention she was trembling.
“What’s the matter, Marianne?”
“Mhmm?” She was somewhat confused until she pieced together what he meant. “Oh! I’m sorry. But there is something I need to tell you. I just don’t know if it's wonderful or terrible.”
“Whatever it is—you can tell me.”
Marianne looked at him with her soft brown eyes, gleaming with unshed tears.“Dimitri,” She started hesitantly, “...I'm pregnant.”
Time seemed to stop right there. And then, loop back when she first uttered those words. Making sure what he heard was actually real.
He was beyond stunned. That his beloved partner was expecting a child. His child.
“Y-you you are?” He uttered, recovering from his initial shock.
“Yes,” She admitted, shedding a few tears.
“I-I can’t believe it…I never expected to be a father this soon.” Dimitri let out an awkward chuckle at the end.
Her head dropped, avoiding his gaze.“I’m sorry…I’m so sorry.”
“Why are you apologizing, my love?” Dimitri placed his fingers under her chin, lifting her face up so “This is wonderful news! How far along are you?”
“Almost two moons…”
When she gave that information, it dawned on Dimitri; realizing how their child was conceived. That night at the Goddess of Tower. Where they were having an intimate moment together that went too far after a few drinks.
“I see…Guess we weren’t careful enough. Does anyone else know?” He then asked.
“No, only you.” She shook her head. “What are we going to do?”
“One thing for sure, I won’t let anything happen to you and our child.” He moved his hand to her stomach in a protective manner. “I swear that I’ll protect you at all costs. For now, we take this one step at a time.”
“Mitya,” Her voice cracked, burying her face into his shoulders.
He simply comforted Marianne as she let out her emotions onto him. While having a child this soon was not ideal, Dimitri would do anything to keep them both safe.
