Rewrite Sonic is Classic Sonic, young Sonic.
To start, he would live on Mobius as a nobody. He lived all by himself in the wild, relied on his animalistic behaviors to survive with his supersonic speeds.
Yes he does want friends, he didn’t like being lonely and explored to find anything he wanted to do or learn about. His way of life wasn’t clear yet.
Then he found Dr. Ivo Robotnik, terrorizing animals on south island to turn into "Badniks", and apprehend powerful gemstones called "Chaos Emeralds." And that alone caught his attention, an opportunity to do something meaningful, no more stumbling on his journey or what he could fulfill.
Sonic decided to fight off the egg-shaped villain he nicknamed Eggman, and again when the doctor goes to "Little planet" for "Timestones." Never has the hedgehog got this thrill of excitement until the doctor declared him a nemesis, fighting each others for years to come.
This was suspected of Sonic being there to protect the people as a hero, do good for others, and one day end Eggman’s career if he wasn’t so resistant at giving up. A trait that the hero doesn’t have.
To Sonic, it was a game, his entertainment. He never gave up but forfeited each time, knowingly how doomed the doctor can be if he attacked him and not his creations. Though he wasn't bothered by providing the peace, he believed being a good guy is what he is.
He does live in the environment like any other, it is a priority. The animals are fine on his terms too, but if we speak for Mobians? Nah. He didn’t really empathize with them, he didn’t know any of them to care. He's more selfish than selfless. Of course, his good guy persona doesn't make his disdain obvious. Hmph, those same Mobians never once considered his well-being or if he had anyone, he only made some friends that somewhat mattered.
Well, except for a two-tailed fox.
It came off as an accident, running past the young fox who was getting bullied. Not in his best concern, he left with his typical running speed, and the fox had to fend himself while those bullies were down. He may had left that little boy, but he couldn't have seen admiration miles away.
The fox appeared to follow the blue hedgehog. Sonic seen him oddly watch afar when he wasn’t going fast, what was good about him? He probably was into his power like no other, then be left out as a person rather than a fighter.
One (un)faithful day, that young fox was messing with an airplane he might’ve stolen or naturally borrowed from somewhere. On instinct he was about to pounce this little creature for their intervention.
The fox ducked in return, his two tails covering him as a protective barrier. Not a strong one though. It interested Sonic, he held back his survival mode to give him a chance. He believed this was the first he softened.
He learned after that the fox was called “Miles Prower”, but referred to as Tails. Tails explained how he was only fixing the airplane, Sonic could see the changes in a better light, and to the poor fox. He calmed down, for once forging a relationship that they can get around. Coming in success, they stamped each other as friends, each of them their first.
For Tails, he finally found someone to feel safe around, have fun with, understand with. His bullies disappeared from his life due to Sonic’s protection, he adored the hedgehog more than he thought of, it's comforting.
For Sonic, he had the same ideals, in addition to play with him and keep for the rest of his lonely life. Aside from Eggman, this little fox made him clingy, almost possessive. He adored Tails more than he could think of, because the fox was only a child.
Even if he met others like Amy and Knuckles on other chases with the Egghead, Tails is his best buddy. His first buddy... Not someone he'd dare to abandon.
But how does Sonic become Rewrite Sonic? His way of thinking was off, his past too, but he had good intentions even if he played with his villain(s).
Introducing, Metal Sonic.
A robotic doppelgänger of the original himself, made to annihilate Sonic no matter the cost. This metallic copy displayed a series of abilities he usually doesn’t possess, but not enough to possess supersonic speeds. It's also a wake up call for Eggman, tired of the attempts to roboticize that hedgehog.
It shook his feelings, his true self he thought was impure to his character. Which is, but no one told him what was right or wrong. He was never raised by a parent or two after all.
A hero was he? That's not enough to describe him, he was more than someone who saves others or supposedly care for those low-life Mobians. No no, he's the ultimate lifeform. Sonic won't tolerate a copy of himself to stand over him, it was his motivation to finally figure out his character. How should he handle this aftermath? Oh he knows!
Sonic can amplify his power through the Chaos Emeralds, especially the Master Emerald.
The first time he used all 7, It was for the good of the world and his friends. Now... he wanted to take that power into his own hands, merge and drain the emeralds into his chaos energy of all its glory. To top it all off with the Master Emerald, he'll be the ultimate ruler of Mobius.
He will become GOD.
