Work Text:
Sherlock is charming, the brightest and wisest boy you've ever had the pleasure of meeting; you adore him deeply. What's the problem? He's the kind of person who isolates himself from others.
You have a burning desire to talk to him, but your social skills are lacking, perhaps as much as his; yet Sherlock manages to use them when he's solving a mystery or ridiculing the bullies who take advantage of him.
You watch him from your seat behind him, so close yet so far away at the same time. His curly hair is stunning, the brown highlights shining when the sun's rays shine through the classroom window. He always looks good in a perfectly ironed white shirt and a school vest. The scent of his men's cologne is pleasant, and you enjoy having him so close to inhale it. You don't know when this attraction to him began, but it's hard not to suffer the wait for him to notice you one day.
One day, it seems your wishes were answered; it was almost like a slow-motion movie when you saw him turn toward your desk. From the front, he's even more attractive than seeing his back every day. His bright blue eyes sometimes turn green in the sunlight. He watches you listlessly, with a neutral expression, and seems a little frustrated.
"You don't have a lab partner in chemistry," he says in a bored tone of voice. "Let's be partners."
"Uh, sure," you reply, unable to contain a simpering grin; this makes him frown. Now he seems uncomfortable and straightens up in his seat.
...
The first time you interacted was a disaster; you managed to make him feel awkward and confused. Sherlock isn't the type of guy girls are attracted to; he's not expected to be; he's strange and annoying, and they shouldn't be attracted to him. Yet you seemed to have a strong attraction to him, trying hard to get him to like you, doing research to improve in the subject he seemed interested in.
He probably noticed, but didn't pay attention, or so you thought.
"Why me?" Sherlock asks in the chemistry lab.
"How so?" you reply, confused.
"Please don't pretend you don't know," he says, frowning and using a sarcastic tone.
You remain silent for a moment, feeling embarrassed. "You're handsome and smart."
"There are more handsome boys."
"I'm not interested."
Sherlock remains silent, unable to hide the surprise on his face; he never thought he'd find himself in a situation like this, so emotional, but he's pleased to know a girl feels that way about him.
"A girl never liked me," he confesses, his cheeks flushed and his hands fluttering.
You offer him a warm smile, and he tries to return it, though he looks awkward. You both laugh nervously, and the tension in the air dissipates. You manage to relax and have a less tense conversation than the last one; you get along splendidly.
When class started, you two meshed better than before. Sherlock is definitely doing well in that subject. You help him, and he seems quite willing to guide you. He seems awkward now that he's interacting with you, knowing all of this.
After class, Sherlock suggested they have lunch together during recess. It was awkward at first, but you managed to get along and establish a friendship somehow.
