Morning with a Raven

Summary:

Ushijima Wakatoshi knew that discipline was the key to success. Getting up early, jogging, breakfast — everything is strictly on schedule. But that was before his morning began to be greeted by disheveled hair, a mumbling "five more minutes" and a warm nose under his chin.
Now the captain's schedule is being disrupted by none other than Kageyama Tobio. And, worse (or better?), Ushijima doesn't really mind.

Work Text:

Ushijima Wakatoshi's morning usually began with a run, a light workout, and a hearty breakfast. Everything is on schedule, clearly and strictly. But lately, his mornings had started out very differently—with a raven stubbornly clinging to him in bed.

"Five more minutes,— came a sleepy grunt from somewhere near his chest.

Kageyama Tobio, with disheveled hair and his cheek flattened against Ushijima's shoulder, looked like the epitome of unwillingness to get up.

"It's seven o'clock. It's time for you to go.

"I don't want to."

— Training session.

"Later."

Ushijima was about to get up, but a couple of warm kisses — first on his neck, then on his chin and on the corner of his lips — suddenly made him freeze. He blinked.

–This is blackmail," the captain stated.

— Mmm, nope… It's... motivation," Kageyama muttered, burying his nose in his neck again.

Ushijima hugged him tightly, allowing himself a few more minutes of peace. Then he exhaled anyway:

–We're going to school anyway.

– I know

Tobio muttered under his breath.

Walking to Karasuno hand in hand with Kageyama has become the new normal. Ushijima didn't say it out loud, but the warmth of Tobio's fingers in his palm was the best way to start the day.

— Ooooh! And here you are, lovebirds! An overly cheerful voice sounded from the side. Tendo Satori came around the corner, joining them as if nothing had happened.

—Good morning, Tendo,— Ushijima nodded calmly.

"I doubt it's kind for someone who goes to school with 'I just got out of fluff' eyes," he teased Kageyama, looking into his face.

Tobio glanced sleepily in his direction, still not letting go of Ushijima's hand.

"Don't trip, Raven," Tendo suddenly added a little more gently when Kageyama stumbled on a pebble.

He was surprised to realize that, despite the teasing, he had been involuntarily watching all morning to make sure that he did not fall, crash, or doze off on the move.

-You're late,— Washijo said sternly, folding his arms across his chest.

—I'm sorry,— Tendo blurted out immediately. -We... we saved the raven from the blanket's attack!" It was hard... especially psychologically!

The coach narrowed his eyes.

-He really didn't want to get up,— Ushijima added seriously, standing next to Tendo.

—Ushijima...— the coach exhaled heavily. — And you're going there too…

Meanwhile, in another corner of the gym:

— Have you noticed? The captain started coming in later than usual," Shirabu remarked, crossing his arms.

-It's because of Kageyama, one hundred percent! Goshiki replied, looking out the window.

-Do you think if I ask Kageyama to get up earlier, we'll start on time?" Seven Eita said thoughtfully.

"I think if you say that, he'll throw a pillow at you,— Shirabu added gloomily.

The three of them exchanged glances.

— But, damn it, if the captain started being late because of a guy, then it's serious.

—Yeah,— Seven nodded. -He's going to stop coming without Kageyama soon.

— Can you imagine? -Sorry, coach, we got up too late today Tobio didn't let go of my hand."

-I wouldn't be surprised,— Goshiki sighed. -But it's so damn cute.
