you can't bear a room that i'm not in

Summary:

Their spontaneous road trip leads them to a small village at the foot of the mountain, with an inn, a cramped room, and so many rural things Fei Du can't figure out.

And the biggest problem is... There are two beds. Which is not the worst thing ever, right? Of course they can sleep separately.

Work Text:

Fei Du didn't like to admit that he was a child of luxury. He had seen many rich kids who never even thought of working a day in their lives, because wealth was given to them from the day they were born. He had seen spoiled guys who purposely wrecked their cars so their parents would buy them a new one, and girls who knew that the moment a single tear fell from their eyes, they would be given anything they wanted.

Fei Du wasn't like that. He had never lived the wonderful life people would imagine when they think of the heir to the family business. Before his father's accident, Fei Du didn't dare to spend money on anything outside of business and investment because he didn't want to face the consequences. After his father's accident... Yes, he might have started spending money left and right because he felt the freedom and permissiveness to do so, but that didn't make him like other rich kids.

Therefore, Fei Du didn't think he was spoiled. He just had money and knew how to spend it properly to enjoy life. Money solved many problems, so why not use it when it helped him get comfort and enjoyment?

This was what Fei Du thought before he and Luo Wenzhou set off on their little journey. Trusting the dice, Fei Du confidently drove into the undiscovered parts of their area, thinking that traveling together wasn't so bad. He might be used to private planes and expensive resorts, but it was quite fun to travel like this through rural areas. Especially since Fei Du could enjoy talking to Luo Wenzhou the whole way, which was another big benefit.

At one point along the way, Luo Wenzhou put his hand on Fei Du's knee and left it there, occasionally stroking his leg. That was enough to make Fei Du happy.

When it started to get dark, they stopped at the nearest village at the foot of the mountains. Fei Du asked the playing young girls on the street where the nearest hotel was, and they showed them the way (only after Wenzhou asked them twice and made them avert their mesmerised gazes from Fei Du, who was smiling charmingly, that flirty rascal).

What they called a hotel turned out to be an ordinary inn. Calling it an inn also didn’t feel quite right. In fact, it was just several rooms that belonged to an old granny. She met them at the threshold and led them inside for her granddaughter to take them in.

Keeping a charming smile on his face, Fei Du said, " Xiaojie, we've been on the road all day and we need a room to rest for the night."

The girl beamed at how elegant this young man looked and spoke. Her cheeks immediately became rosy and her smile wide.

"Of course we have rooms."

"We'll take the presidential suite if it's not occupied," Fei Du said.

He turned around in surprise when he heard loud laughter behind him. Luo Wenzhou was frowning before, watching as his boyfriend continued to win the hearts of everyone he met along the way. But once he heard such an absurd phrase, he couldn't hold back a hearty laugh, bending in half.

Fei Du raised his eyebrows in a daze, looking at him.

"I'm sorry, what did you say?" the girl looked at Luo Wenzhou, who couldn't stop laughing, then at Fei Du, who, in her opinion, said something completely incomprehensible.

Fei Du thought that he might not have expressed himself clearly, so he repeated, "We need a suite, your best room."

The girl blinked a few times.

"Step aside, President Fei, this is not your level." Luo Wenzhou pushed him aside and turned to the girl, "Sorry for confusing you. We just need a room for the night."

"Ah, yes, of course." The girl finally nodded, digging under the desk and placing two keys on the table. "Two single rooms for you."

Luo Wenzhou looked at the two keys, then opened and closed his mouth a few times, thinking of the best way to say it to the innocent youth. He turned around to Fei Du, who was also looking at the two keys, confused.

"Erm," Luo Wenzhou coughed. "We'd like one room for two."

The girl threw a perplexed look at them, examining the strange guests from head to toe, then nodded. "Ah yes! You'd like to save some money."

Fei Du, who had never known such a thing as “saving money” in his life, felt insulted but didn't say anything. Luo Wenzhou accepted the girl's conclusion with pride and nodded. He took the key and paid the required amount, because to Fei Du's shock, they didn't have a payment terminal.

"Should I be worried that the room here costs almost as much as one cup of coffee?" asked Fei Du as they walked towards their place for the night.

"President Fei. Firstly, stop drinking such expensive coffee. Secondly, we're not in the city, so this place has its own prices."

"They need to raise their prices, otherwise they're just giving away rooms for free." Fei Du shook his head knowingly. "That's no way to do business."

Luo Wenzhou laughed, ignoring him.

"What?" Fei Du asked. "Such a price for a room and breakfast is illegally low."

Luo Wenzhou laughed even louder. "Breakfast? Oh, President Fei, I’m going to crush your dreams."

Fei Du didn't have time to answer, because they finally reached the door they were looking for. On the door was attached a piece of paper that read, room 3. Luo Wenzhou turned the key and the door opened with a creak, letting them into a small room that was unbearably stuffy.

“Ah, it's impossible to breathe in here.” Luo Wenzhou left the door open and opened all the windows in the room.

“We need to turn on the air conditioner,” Fei Du said, but upon his quick investigation, he discovered that this room certainly didn't have such expensive appliances. Nor did it have a refrigerator. Nor even a TV.

All it had was an old table, two chairs, and beds. Two separate beds.

Luo Wenzhou stared at them for a while, then chuckled. “It seems she didn't understand what I meant.”

“I'm sure they have rooms with king-size beds,” Fei Du said. “I'll go ask them to change it.”

"Fei Du, I'm afraid in this place they’ve never even considered that two guys might want to sleep in the same bed. That's okay, we'll just move the beds together before going to sleep, it's not a problem."

Fei Du pressed his lips together upon hearing the answer. He took a look around the small room, but he didn't argue, wiping the sweat off his forehead.

While Luo Wenzhou stayed in the room to wipe off the dust, Fei Du was sent to ask the owners for at least a floor fan. Luckily for him, they had one. After that, they both spent ten minutes sitting in front of the fan and cooling themselves off.

“You know, maybe we should sleep in the car,” Fei Du suggested. “It's not so bad there, and the air conditioning works better.”

“No-no, President Fei, even a bohemian like you has to come down and live on par with mere mortals sometimes.”

Luo Wenzhou scoffed, but he put one arm around Fei Du, so the latter decided to let him keep on chatting while he lay his head on Luo Wenzhou's shoulder and rested with his eyes closed for as long as he could.

They left the room when it was already quite dark and they were hungry. Fei Du pretended to be joking when he asked, “Do you think they have food delivery here?” He immediately put on a fake smile when he saw that Luo Wenzhou was ready to laugh again. “I'm just kidding.” In his head, he sighed in despair.

Luo Wenzhou suggested they ask the landlady where the restaurant was in the village, but she protested, forcing them to stay for dinner in her inn. The granny immediately shouted for her granddaughter to serve them dinner and eat with the “two city boys.” Luo Wenzhou, with his mind completely attuned to men, didn't even notice any hidden intentions behind this, but Fei Du, who was good at reading women, immediately realized why the old lady insisted so stubbornly for them to stay for dinner with her granddaughter. She thought that these two guys, who for some reason took one room for two, could definitely be the perfect boyfriend candidates for her granddaughter.

Fei Du anticipated the dinner to be quite funny as he sat down next to Luo Wenzhou, across from a young girl who introduced herself as Xiao Yan. She placed several bowls of congee and vegetables on the table, which she admitted to having grown and harvested on her own.

“Hardworking and yet so good at cooking.” Fei Du put on his favorite charming smile. “You're a true talent. It's rare to find such a talented youth these days.”

"What are you talking about? Cooking and harvesting are the easiest and most mundane work here." Xiao Yan didn't seem to be impressed by his words. She threw a glance at the expensive watch on Fei Du's hand, thought about something, nodded, and started eating.

“You see, President Fei grew up in wealth, he can't understand such simple things, he has never cooked anything in his life,” Luo Wenzhou said with a sly smile.

Xiao Yan nodded at this. Simple and naive, she calmly expressed her thoughts, “My grandmother always says that I should find a rich husband and move to the big city, but how can I communicate with someone like that if they've never known labour in their life?”

“That's what I'm saying!” Luo Wenzhou supported her. “Some people are too spoiled to even think about the lives of ordinary people like us.”

Fei Du's smile turned a bit poisonous as he said in a charming voice, “Captain Luo, eat up. It's not nice to talk at the table.”

“On the contrary, talking at the table is the best time to talk,” Xiao Yan argued. "During the workday, everyone is too busy and tired to talk, so the best time to talk is at the table. Of course you can't understand this."

Fei Du pushed Luo Wenzhou with his foot, as Luo Wenzhou could barely contain his laughter. Xiao Yan didn't notice this, switching to a new topic.

"Captain Luo? Why Captain?"

“This humble man in front of you is the Captain of the Special Investigation Department, Luo Wenzhou.” The “humble man” wasn't acting humble at all.

“A policeman?” Xiao Yan's eyes lit up. She had originally sat across from Fei Du, apparently expecting to hold a conversation with him, but now she moved to a neighboring chair to sit opposite Luo Wenzhou. "This is such a respectable job, isn't it?! You must be famous in the city."

Luo Wenzhou chuckled. “Yes, almost everyone knows me.”

“Oh yeah, he's an acquaintance of the worst half of the capital's population.” Fei Du tried to join the conversation, but he was ignored.

"My grandmother always says I should respect police officers, doctors, and firefighters because they work to help the common people. Wait, if other people in the village find out that a real city cop came to visit, they'll all want to meet you!"

“Please, let's keep my arrival a secret, I'm not used to this much attention, I'm just a humble servant of the people.”

“Oh, now it's no wonder you're in such wonderful shape, you must be working out a lot.” Xiao Yan excitedly pointed out Luo Wenzhou's muscles, which were not hidden by the simple gray t-shirt he was wearing. “Can I touch it?”

Luo Wenzhou nodded faster than he realized what exactly she was asking, but when he came to his senses, Xiao Yan was already holding his hand, squeezing his bicep with some childlike interest. Suddenly receiving such attention from the girl, Luo Wenzhou looked at Fei Du confusedly, expecting him to laugh off the situation, but instead, he was met with the attentive gaze of peach blossom eyes. Fei Du raised one eyebrow, defiantly throwing a glance at the girl who continued to touch his boyfriend.

Luo Wenzhou awkwardly coughed and carefully moved back. Xiao Yan also sat back down on her chair.

"This is so cool! The real body of a person who saves lives." She was ecstatic.

No one at the table shared her enthusiasm. Luo Wenzhou, always sensitive to Fei Du's emotions, immediately scanned his body language and brought the chair closer, placing one hand on Fei Du's knee. Fei Du placed his hand on top of Luo Wenzhou’s for a second, and then began to eat calmly again.

He no longer took part in the conversation. Realizing that this was definitely not his audience, he let Luo Wenzhou continue to entertain the girl who had an endless set of questions about the policeman's life.

Fei Du only spoke when they got up from the table, and Luo Wenzhou said, “Thank you so much for dinner, you're a marvelous cook.”

“Yes, almost as good as my Shixiong when he cooks for me.”

Fei Du knew that she wouldn't understand what he meant, but it made Luo Wenzhou laugh all the way back to their room.

As soon as they entered the small room and the door closed behind them, Luo Wenzhou hugged him, nuzzling his nose into Fei Du's hair and chuckling.

“President Fei, isn't it too low for you to be jealous because a girl was interested in a taken gay man?” He whispered, kissing Fei Du’s hair.

“Captain Luo, it seems you're the one who should be ashamed of yourself for letting others touch you, right in front of the man you called husband.” In his arms, Fei Du suddenly felt how tired he was from the day and how much he needed to rest. He let out a tired sigh. "It's been a long day. I need a hot bath and a healthy sleep."

And with that, a new problem arose. Instead of a hot bath, Fei Du was met with a shower, which was a regular drain in the bathroom floor.

“Is this some kind of joke?” Fei Du asked.

Luo Wenzhou held back a giggle, “Be glad they at least have a shower in the room.”

"What do you mean ‘at least’? Isn't that the bare minimum?"

Luo Wenzhou decided not to explain to him all the horrors that rural houses could be.

“Go take a shower first, I'll prepare our bed in the meantime,” Luo Wenzhou said, but Fei Du grabbed his wrist.

“Shixiong, take a shower with me.”

“Honey, I really love you and even though sex in a dirty shower in the middle of some godforsaken village sounds interesting, I'm too tired.”

“Captain Luo, it seems your head is too full of shameful thoughts. I just want to take a shower with my husband because I've missed him all day.”

Luo Wenzhou decided not to argue about the fact that they had been together all day, allowing Fei Du to pull him under the shower with him.

The water was unbearably hot, which was a crime, considering how hot it was outside, but Luo Wenzhou couldn't care less as Fei Du's hands slid over his skin. He certainly noticed Fei Du running his hands over his biceps a few times, the same place where the girl had touched him, but Luo Wenzhou didn't say anything. He pulled Fei Du closer, kissing him and reminding him that there was only one person in his life that he cared about.

Fei Du came out of the shower satisfied and rosy-cheeked. He gathered his hair into a ponytail and put on an expensive nightgown that would definitely seem ridiculous to the people of this village. Luo Wenzhou, on the other hand, chose not to wear a T-shirt, which pleased Fei Du, who licked his lips as a real cat would. Fei Du couldn't wait for them to go to bed so he could touch those abs once more.

That's when a major problem arose.

“What are these beds made of?” Luo Wenzhou breathed heavily, making another attempt to move the bed, but it stayed in place. “Are they screwed to the floor?”

Fei Du impatiently watched as the bed wouldn't budge. He was beginning to realize where this was going.

“I can still go and ask for a room with one bed,” Fei Du suggested.

“It's too late, it’s not the kind of hotel you are used to. They don’t have a full-time front desk. Moreover, it's such a small thing,” Luo Wenzhou shook off his hands and stretched. “It's okay, it's only for one night, we can sleep separately.”

It took Fei Du all his self-control not to say “No?” in response.

“You're right,” he said instead.

Because the fact that they had to sleep in separate beds shouldn't have bothered him that much. So what if he'd spent most of the day driving and all he wanted to do was crawl into Luo Wenzhou's arms and fall asleep. In the same bed. He thought it was such a simple wish until he found himself in this room.

Luo Wenzhou noticed the displeasure on his face, so he walked over and kissed Fei Du on the nose. “Don't be upset, I promise, tomorrow we'll stay in a nice hotel with a big bed. Okay?”

Fei Du didn't answer, so Luo Wenzhou got his bed ready for him. “Let me help you get settled to sleep.”

He patiently waited for Fei Du to roll his eyes and obediently lie down before Luo Wenzhou covered him with a thin pink blanket with a flower pattern.

“That's it.” He tucked the blanket and squatted down to be face to face with Fei Du. “Is it better?”

“Good enough, the only thing missing is you next to me.”

Luo Wenzhou laughed and kissed him, letting himself enjoy it for a while. Then he stood up, leaving one more quick peck on Fei Du's forehead.

“Good night, darling,” he whispered, and Fei Du said the same in return. He watched dramatically as Luo Wenzhou walked away to the other bed. Fei Du even found it funny how much grief he felt at that moment.

For a while longer, the room was noisy. Luo Wenzhou made another attempt to move the bed, then gave up, shook his hands, and lay down on his separate bed. He twisted around for a few more minutes, trying to get comfortable. Then it became quiet.

Fei Du lay in the darkness, on a not-so-comfortable bed, in a small and old room, in a village somewhere in the middle of the mountains. Yeah, he would never have thought that his life would lead him to such a place. But if it meant creating new memories with Luo Wenzhou, then he was fine with it. What he wasn’t fine with was being separated from Luo Wenzhou when they were supposed to be spending time together.

It was stupid because their beds were a meter apart. Fei Du would have been able to see Luo Wenzhou's face if the room hadn't been so dark. Not to mention that Fei Du had spent so many years living completely alone and was used to sleeping by himself. So why did the fact that he had to sleep alone bother him so much now?

Before this relationship, Fei Du didn't like sleeping with other people. Even if he stayed with someone for the night after a one-night stand, Fei Du hardly slept at all. Usually, he would leave the moment they were done because he didn't like not having a clear mind around someone he couldn't trust. You never know what knives and secrets someone is hiding.

With Luo Wenzhou, it was different. They didn't just sleep together; Luo Wenzhou held him. Luo Wenzhou was a lover of all the old relationship principles, so his favorite show of care was to sleep with his lover in his arms. Luo Wenzhou would let Fei Du sleep on his shoulder even if he couldn't feel that arm in the morning. He’d hug Fei Du tightly, holding him close all night. Fei Du liked this much more than he admitted to himself. He liked feeling Luo Wenzhou's chest slowly rising and falling. He liked the way his arms didn't let go of Fei Du even in his sleep, keeping him warm and loved.

Fei Du liked that even when they slept, he belonged to Luo Wenzhou, and Luo Wenzhou belonged to him.

Yes, he was clearly succumbing to Luo Wenzhou's influence if he had such sappy thoughts in his head.

Now, however, he was lying completely alone, and he hated it.

Sleeping alone on business trips was fine because he knew that Luo Wenzhou was far away from him, and he had no choice but to sleep by himself on the big hotel beds. Here, however, Luo Wenzhou was so close and the bed was so uncomfortable that Fei Du really thought about going to sleep in the car. There, at least he could find a way to crawl into Luo Wenzhou's arms.

Fei Du lay staring at the ceiling for a while, then he checked the time and found out that more than half an hour had passed, and he still couldn't sleep. He was exhausted, they had a road ahead of them tomorrow, and he obviously wouldn't be able to drive if he didn't get enough sleep, which would mean that they would have to stay here for another night and sleep separately again. Fei Du was horrified at the thought.

He fidgeted on the bed, but he still couldn't sleep. He even thought of starting to count Luo Yiguos in his head, which to Fei Du equaled 'going crazy'.

Fei Du froze when Luo Wenzhou also began to turn on the bed. Fei Du seemed to have woken him up.

Fei Du closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep. He listened to Luo Wenzhou roll over a few times, then the noise got louder, and Fei Du thought he heard footsteps.

“Fei Du?” The voice was so close that the only reason Fei Du didn't flinch was because it wasn't in his nature to flinch.

“Shixiong?” He opened his eyes and found Luo Wenzhou standing next to his bed.

“Move,” Luo Wenzhou said, and Fei Du obediently made room for him, almost falling off the narrow bed.

Luo Wenzhou lay down next to him, also trying not to fall, “Damn, why is it so small? Who are they even made for?” He let out a quiet shriek and laughed as he almost fell again. “It’s cramped, but I think we'll fit if...”

He opened his arms and Fei Du immediately accepted the invitation, crawling into his embrace and snuggling as close as possible so they could fit. Luo Wenzhou grasped his waist and turned them around so that Fei Du was almost completely lying on top of him. In this position, they didn't take up any more space on the bed than one person would.

“Shixiong missed me so much that he couldn't even sleep without me for one night?” Fei Du scoffed, as if he weren't the one who almost went crazy over separate beds.

“Shut up. You couldn't sleep either.” Luo Wenzhou left his hands on Fei Du's waist. He kissed his forehead like he always did before going to sleep. After a moment of silence, he spoke again, “This is our first time traveling together, why would I want to spend a whole night apart from you? Stupid beds won't stop me.”

Fei Du laughed softly, glad that he didn't have to be the one to make the first move. He made himself comfortable, made sure he wouldn’t crush Luo Wenzhou in his sleep, and was finally able to breathe in peace, surrounded by a familiar feeling of warmth and love.

“It's not that bad,” Fei Du said. “Why have a second bed when I have my own right here?”

“Go to sleep, it's late.” Luo Wenzhou buried his nose in Fei Du’s hair for a few seconds. He often did this, as if he were trying to breathe Fei Du into his lungs. . Then his hands squeezed Fei Du a little tighter as a final short confession. “I love you.”

Fei Du whispered something very close to “I love you” in response, but his mind had already started to fall asleep, feeling completely calm and secure in Luo Wenzhou's embrace.

Even though the small room was hot and dusty, and the bed was not comfortable at all, the two lovers slept peacefully in each other's arms, and nothing could disturb their sleep.

Fei Du was very tired from the previous day, so he didn't even wake up at his usual time. When he opened his eyes, it was already bright outside. Fei Du was still lying on top of Luo Wenzhou, with Luo Wenzhou's hands on his waist. Despite not having the most comfortable position, Fei Du felt refreshed.

He slowly raised his hand, looking at his watch, which showed eight o'clock in the morning. Then he looked at Luo Wenzhou, who was still sleeping peacefully. Fei Du let himself admire him for a few moments before he reached up and kissed Luo Wenzhou's nose. This failed to disturb the policeman's sleep, so Fei Du enjoyed leaving another kiss between his eyebrows, on his temple, cheek, and jaw.

Attacked by the kisses, Luo Wenzhou finally made a dissatisfied sound and turned his head away, giving Fei Du the perfect opportunity to kiss his neck.

“Fei Du,” Luo Wenzhou's voice was hoarse from sleep. “Darling, can your sudden burst of affection wait for at least a couple more hours? I'm really sleepy.”

“It can't.” Fei Du bit down on his neck and received a slap on his thigh. “It's almost nine. We need to pack if we want to be able to leave before noon.”

Luo Wenzhou slowly opened his eyes, admiring Fei Du. Fei Du's hair fell on his face and tickled his skin, but Luo Wenzhou was used to it enough not to react. The rays of the morning sun came through the open window and, bathing in it, Fei Du looked even more beautiful.

“Good morning,” Luo Wenzhou said, which was his usual invitation for morning affection. Fei Du immediately pitched forward, connecting their lips in a long, lazy kiss. “Did you sleep well?”

“I just woke up,” Fei Du said, and that spoke volumes. “Maybe the secret to me being able to sleep well is sleeping on you?”

“Brat, I don't think I can get up. My whole body is stiff. I can't move.”

Fei Du understood his silent hint. He rolled Luo Wenzhou over onto his stomach and sat on his lower back, slowly kneading his shoulders with his cold palms. When Luo Wenzhou once mentioned that he often had sore muscles due to his work and constant physical exertion, Fei Du immediately hired a masseur to help him. What Luo Wenzhou didn't know was that Fei Du had also taken massage courses to know how to relieve his pain.

“Darling, if you had even the slightest bit of your soul that wanted to work, I would advise you to become a masseur. You're too good at it.”

“I do work, thank you very much. It's just that some people work with brute force and some work with their minds.” he leaned over and kissed Luo Wenzhou's back. “Only you have the privilege to use my service.”

“Then I'll accept it.”

When they were finally fully awake and left the room, they realized that this place wasn't that bad.

Having arrived late in the evening, they hadn't even noticed that the view from their room was directly overlooking the forested hills that seemed endless in the morning sun. The air here was much fresher than in the city. Luo Wenzhou and Fei Du both took a deep breath, enjoying the smell of the trees and flowers in the small garden that was near the inn.

“What a hidden gem,” Fei Du said, thoughtfully looking around. “The most beautiful places always end up where you don't expect to see them. Shixiong, what do you think?”

“I think we need to get you out of the city more often so you can see something other than offices.” he put one arm around Fei Du's shoulders. “Come on, since we still have time, let's take a walk around the village.”

Fei Du's expensive shoes stepped on the muddy earth road, but he didn't pay attention. They walked along the narrow streets, bought breakfast from one of the old men who sold food outside, and eventually found a remote place at the very edge of the village. It was a lonely bench that faced mountains.

Fei Du looked around and rested his head on Luo Wenzhou's shoulder, admiring the view.

“In the future, when we're older and don't have so much work, let's travel together,” Luo Wenzhou said.

“Are you already making plans for your old age, Captain Luo?” Fei Du tried to turn it into a joke, although deep inside he felt pleased at the thought that Luo Wenzhou imagined they could be together further in life.

“Why not? It's not like you'll have a chance to run away from me in this lifetime, so I might as well plan already.”

“I won't run away,” Fei Du smiled slyly, “but make sure you don't get so fed up with me that you'd want to run away from me yourself.”

“Would I have a chance to escape you?”

“No.”

They were silent for a while, enjoying each other's company.

“I like it here,” Fei Du said. “Let's come here sometime again.”

“Only if they have double beds, otherwise my body can't take it.”

Fei Du nodded, thinking. Then he stood up. “Let's go, we need to make it to a good hotel tonight. I need a big bed and a hot bath.”

“Wait.” Luo Wenzhou stood up and put his hands on Fei Du's waist, stroking it with his thumbs.

“What?”

Luo Wenzhou shook his head, then leaned over and kissed him.

“Just need a moment to savor it.”

“Who knew Captain Luo was so romantic… Isn’t it embarrassing?” In spite of his own words, Fei Du took out his phone from his pocket. “Smile for the camera.”

He purposely warned Luo Wenzhou later than necessary to get at least one silly picture. Luo Wenzhou rolled his eyes, already knowing his strategy, and posed for the camera. After taking a few photos, Fei Du flipped through them with a satisfied smile, choosing the best one.

“Send it to mom, she'll be happy,” Luo Wenzhou said.

“Already sent it.” Fei Du hid the phone. “Now let's go, according to the maps, it's about a five-hour drive to the nearest big community with a hotel. There will be some waterfalls along the way. If we're lucky, we can stop by there.”

Luo Wenzhou agreed, following Fei Du to the inn where they were staying. An hour later, they were already saying goodbye to the grandma and her granddaughter, who escorted them to the car. While Luo Wenzhou packed their suitcases into the trunk, Fei Du left Xiao Yan his business card, asking with a charming smile for her to call him. Xiao Yan hesitated for a bit, throwing a glance at Luo Wenzhou, then quietly whispered to Fei Du, “I actually liked your friend better.”

Fei Du laughed, “ Xiaojie, this is a business proposal, nothing personal.”

Xiao Yan looked at him confusedly, then shrugged and put the business card in her pocket.

Luo Wenzhou and Fei Du's journey continued, leaving the small village and inn behind. Luo Wenzhou expected that he would never hear about this godforsaken place again, but a few months later, bored at work and flipping through the news, he saw an article about how a small town at the foot of the mountains had suddenly become a favorite vacation spot for rich tourists who wanted to experience a simple rural life. The main center of the vacation was a small inn owned by an old woman and her granddaughter, who now had no idea what to do with so much money.

At the end of the article, in a small interview, one of the owners, Xiao Yan, mentioned a certain Virtue Fei who had helped not only their business grow, but also the whole village make good profits without having to work tirelessly.

Luo Wenzhou smiled while shaking his head.

That day, Fei Du had earned a dinner of all his favorite dishes. And extra kisses as well.
