Chapter Text
Snowpaw's POV:
This is it, today it the day. I strap on my pack and head out into the rainforest, completely alone. I'm excited, but also nervous. Today I complete my trial to become the clans newest Raft Master, and I know if I fail, the whole clan will shame me. As I tread over the damp earth, I look for anything I can use to build my raft, the one I'll use to journey to the Isle of the Ancestors. It's a secured Island that all Raft Masters must travel to to be given they're name.
I find a sturdy wooden board and some vines. I tie a few sticks to the board, ensuring they are held on tightly. My raft must be large enough to carry 2 cats, although I do have to go alone. I'm hoping the fog is not to thick tomorrow, otherwise I will not be able to find my raft after I dive for my stone.
Once my raft is done, I drag it all the way to the beach. It floats, so I step on. It doesn't sink and so I proceed to push myself off the shore. There is a fog, but it isn't very heavy. I can see my destination, although it is faint, and so I am confident in the fact that I'll be able to make it.
When I am about halfway there, I carefully step off the raft into the warm water. I take a deep breath and dive down. There are many beautiful stones at the bottom, but I am looking for one in particular. A rainbow stone. These are stones with many pretty colors, usually shades of brown with reds, greens, blues, or purples woven into them. I see one that had a beautiful jade color wrapped around it, so I grab it in my mouth and swim up.
As I make it to the island, I shake the remaining water off and look at my surroundings. I have been to the Island a few times before, but now that I am alone, it feels so surreal. I start a fire and procede to my next task; the sacrifice of the stone.
These specific "rainbow stones" are special because when burned in a fire, the brown colors melt away, leaving a beautifully colored stone. I start a fire and place my stone into it, watching the color slowly creep over the brown. I imagine how my brother, Icetail, will react when he sees the pretty jade stone. He'll probably wish he had been chosen to become a Raft Master too.
Time Skip
As the morning approaches, I put out my fire, put my stone in my pouch, and hop back on my raft. My trial was completed and I'll pass as long as I make it home safely. The fog is slightly thicker today, but I still manage to find my way. That is the whole point of the Raft Master, to be way finders and navigate between islands like our ancestors.
Upon my arrival, my mentor, the leader, and the deputy are waiting for me, along with Icetail, my best friend and brother. They all look so happy I am home, and Icetail asks if I have the stone. I, of course, show him the stone, and he makes a snide remark about how I always talked about getting a purple one and ended up with this "dull shade of green" instead. "Oh shut up, you're just lucky you get to see one of these," I say. "Am I though? I bet you I could walk around and find plenty of these stones in the dirt." I playfully bat at my brother.
When we arrive back at camp, a ceremony is held where I become Snowheart, an official Raft Master of AshClan. I am proud of myself, and I know my family and friends are too.
