Work Text:
After fighting monsters and going on dangerous missions had become the normal thing to do with her boyfriend, Lucy had had to put her foot down.
Was it so bad to ask for just one day of actually normal, normal?
Natsu had thought so but Gray and Mirajane had encouraged taking the day off so Lucy was given control and planned out the best date she could for her and Gray.

The morning the next day started out just like any other, Lucy showered, brushed her teeth and combed her hair with the addition of a small smile always on her face.
She had a date with Gray. Just a whole day to spend with her boyfriend by themselves. Things were practically perfect.
Of course she still needed something to wear…

The wardrobe had been rummaged through for a good half an hour before Lucy just decided to go with her casual outfit; Gray probably wouldn’t have fussed too much, considering he’d probably lose most of his clothes along the way anyway.
She found out she was right not two minutes later when Gray appeared before her with a bouquet of flowers and a charming smile.
God she loved him.
The flowers were put in a vase and he held out his arm for her, she took it jokingly, going along with the ‘Princess’ act but cuddling up to him all the same.

Everything had been wonderful, she’d picked the best restaurants, best places to see, and best final scene.
Well, she hoped anyway, the sky was darkening so there were only minutes until she found out.
Gray was still smiling for her, a warm look in his eyes that reflected the stars coming out so easily, Lucy would’ve stared forever if she had the choice.
The field was empty unless you counted the two of them and the crickets and Lucy was sure she’d made a good choice bringing them out to the meadow.
She was about to say something before Gray lay back on the grass, “Come here Lucy?”
She did, settling by his side and resting her head on his, surprisingly still clothed, chest easily.
“Miss Heartfilia, thank you for a terrific day.”
“You enjoyed it?”
“Of course! I got to spend it with you after all.”
Lucy was sure she was redder than the strawberries Erza loved with her cake so much, he always knew how to say just the right thing.
“Well, I’m glad, jobs are cool and all, but they aren’t exactly very romantic.”
“No, I guess they’re not. You can’t blame a guy for trying though, right?”
There must have been a bubble above her head filled with question marks, ‘trying’? Were those- Were the jobs Gray’s idea of a date?
“So all of those missions with me were your idea of a romantic getaway?”
“I’ve never done something like this before okay?!”
Aww, how cute.
“I mean, I’ve never liked a girl the way I like you Lucy. I’m pretty clueless.” Oh, she wished she could see his face! It would’ve been easy, move a little, sit up and take a quick peek…
…Nah, she’d tease him about this later, right now she was content snuggling back into his arms as constellations became more visible, shining down on them.
