Chapter Text
This was probably THE worst day. First Dazai had to wake up, then President Fukuzawa gave him orders, and now he’s working with the WORST man alive, second to that rat Fyodor…perhaps.
It was bad enough that the Port Mafia couldn’t handle a stupid foreign threat on their own, bad for their reputation…not that Dazai cared too much. But what he DID care about, was working with Chuuya. God just thinking about even his name made him shudder with disgust.
Why did Mori decide to call upon him, the amazing and irresistible Osamu Dazai, to help them with this case? Apparently this was some kind of dispute with yet another major mafia, one that resides…somewhere. Judging by what little info Dazai got, he figured it was Italy. But why would there be a dispute between them and the Port Mafia? Who the hell knows.
As of now, Dazai was waiting in an alleyway for his ex partner, leaning against the brick wall with his arms crossed. Weird for him to be late…usually Dazai was the late one. Oh well, whatever. Dazai was definitely going to give him shit for it though.
Right as Dazai was about to leave, as to not wait there any longer, footsteps echoed through the empty alleyway. Fuuuuuck, those footsteps were annoying. Even worse was the voice that followed.
”Listen here, jackass.”
Dazai groaned, slumping against the wall as the unmistakable voice of Chuuya Nakahara continued to yap about…whatever. Dazai was blocking it out. “Let’s get some things straight. First,” Chuuya stopped walking once he was in front of dazai, his eyes narrowed as he spoke. “We are going to do this mission quick, so I don’t have to look at your stupid face for too long.”
Dazai gasped, adding a dramatic flare to it by placing his hand over his heart. “How dare you call, my rather beautiful, face stup-“
”Second.” Oh how rude of him to interrupt. “You were only brought here to help figure out the best course of action, because our men couldn’t come up with shit, and you were the only one the boss believed could.”
Dazai gave him a cheeky grin, it was fake, but he had to keep up! After all, he was the only one Mori still wanted to plan things out, even after he had joined the agency.
”Third. Do not get in my way, or I will beat your ass into next month. Understood, Dazai?” The shorter man glared at Dazai, but that meant nothing, so Dazai hummed softly and nodded before finally being able to say a full sentence. “Yeaahhh, understood Mr. ‘I’m late to my own meeting’!”
Chuuya instantly tried to kick Dazai out of pure rage, but of course he dodged. It was no use, he knew his moves better than anyone. “Tsk tsk, that’s no way to treat your old partner, is it? After all, you do need me for this mission~ it’d be a shame if I had to tell Mori that you scared me off by trying to kill me!~”
Dazai giggled and walked off, Chuuya grumpily following with his fists clenched at his sides. They were headed to an old Port Mafia warehouse, used now to store computers and use them to dig into things without any electric signals or frequencies to be picked up well.
There was no talking on the journey there, just the sound of footsteps echoeing off of the walls. Upon arriving at the warehouse, Dazai looked around with wide eyes, like he hasn’t seen places like this before.
Chuuya ignored him to walk off to the computer they would be using. They were supposed to be finding files of the enemy, dig into them and find out if any members had any abilities, who would be the biggest threat. A simple task in theory, rather difficult when you realize that they took every precaution possible to hide the group’s members and information. And Chuuya thought the Port Mafia was somewhat careful.
Turning around to face Dazai, he spoke as calmly as he could as he watched Dazai touch everything to see what it did. “Okay, get your ass over here and stop fucking around. The sooner you can break into this organizations files and get us the information, the better.”
Dazai grinned and hummed as he walked to the computer Chuuya was at, shoving him out of the way with a not so gentle push. “Alrightyyy let’s see what kind of goodies this group has!”
He instantly started working, his fingers gliding over the keyboard with practiced ease. Chuuya watched with a scowl as, somehow, he was making some progress. Damn this was annoying, how come Dazai could do this so easily while his own men couldn’t? It was infuriating.
However, Dazai suddenly stopped, and very slowly turned to look at Chuuya. And he just stared with his, almost empty, brown eyes. After a few moments of a very uncomfortable staring contest, Chuuya couldn’t take it anymore. “What? Is the bandage wearing bastard suddenly stumped on what to do?”
Dazai’s expression stayed the same, blank with absolutely zero emotion. And after yet another moment of uncomfortable silence, he spoke, his voice monotone. “Your breathing is annoying.”
“Go stand over there, pretty pleaseeee~” Dazai batted his eyelashes as Chuuya gave him a death glare and stormed off to stand away from this insufferable piece of shit. And instantly, the sounds of keyboard keys clicking started up again.

It took a while, but eventually Dazai got through, and the files were open. With a very smug and prideful grin, Dazai whistled and spoke up. “Well hatrack! Yet another victory for the incredible Dazai! The files are open for your big ugly eyes to see!”
Chuuya scoffed, his footsteps getting louder as he approached Dazai and the computer. “Tch, I wouldn’t go as far as to call you ‘incredible,’ more. Like-“
Silence.
With a quiet ‘hmm’ Dazai turned around to see why Chuuya cut himself off. Probably some stupid reason. But he paused and scrapped that thought when…Chuuya was nowhere to be seen.
”Chuuya…?” Dazai glanced around the room, checking behind old boxes, any place he might be. “Hatrack?”
…
Yet no. Answer. It wasn’t like Chuuya to not make some kind of remark to that nickname…but there wasn’t even a scoff. He ended up even looking to the ceiling to see if he had gone up there with his ability. “…Slug?”
…
…
Still nothing. Now Dazai was getting uneasy. He hated Chuuya, sure, the silence was..preferred. But this? This was a bit much. The way he was cut off, MID remark…something wasn’t right.
Dazai ended up walking to the places he knew Chuuya had been in. Following the same path to try and get some kind clue…but he took one step. And suddenly his eyes went wide.
It was like he stepped in a hole, like the ground had been taken, yet he could still see it…like the floor melted right under his feet. And then, he was falling. Right through the ground itself, and it all went black.
