“Wow, your bathing suit is so pretty!”
Hina jumps, her eyes brightening. “Really?” she asks, giving Kaede a skeptical look. She glances down to her swimsuit and then looks back up, her lips pursing to one side. “It’s just the school one.”
“Well, it looks really pretty on you.” Kaede reaches over and gently pushes Hina’s shoulder. “When I put it on, I look ugly.” She crosses her arms and leans forward. “You’d think they could come up with a better one. I mean, we have the Ultimate Fashionista and the Ultimate Cosplayer, for goodness’ sake! One of them could come up with something better than this!” She gestures to Hina’s swimsuit, then winces. “I mean. Not you. There’s not much better than you! But.” She looks away and gives a half-hearted sigh. “Something that looks better on people like me.”
“I don’t think it looks bad on you,” Hina says, although she’s honestly never seen Kaede in the school swimsuit. Thinking about it now, though, she can’t imagine it looking bad on her. “You probably look really good in the blue. Since you’re blonde. Blondes look good in blue.”
Kaede shakes her head. “It’s the wrong shade. My normal bikini is a lot brighter, and I look a lot better in that!” She brightens up. “You know, you’d probably look good in a bikini, too! But maybe a red one…or a white one—”
“I don’t like bikinis.” Hina frowns. “I like this one a lot better. I don’t have to worry about….” Her voice trails off. She doesn’t want to bring it up. Even though she already has. Whoops.
But Kaede seems to get it. Her eyes widen, and she nods. “Got it.” She finger guns. “Never get you a bikini, then.”
“What?” Hina gives her a shocked look. “Why are you buying me clothes?”
“I’m not!”
But Kaede’s smile says otherwise.
