Distraction

Summary:

The TV was blaring some mindless variety show, but Nameless wasn’t paying attention anymore. He was on the couch with one leg up and the remote forgotten beside him, eyes flickering every now and then toward the quiet corner of the room where Riel had been crouched for the past hour.

“You’re cute when you’re focused,” Nameless murmured.

Work Text:

The TV was blaring some mindless variety show, but Nameless wasn’t paying attention anymore. He was on the couch with one leg up and the remote forgotten beside him, eyes flickering every now and then toward the quiet corner of the room where Riel had been crouched for the past hour.

Nameless tilted his head, watching the way his husband sat cross-legged on the floor, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, hands deep inside the opened up metal casing of… something. Nameless couldn’t even remember what it was anymore. A part of a chair? A broken fan? Maybe a speaker?

Who knew. Riel knew. And apparently, Riel cared a lot.

The man was frowning lightly, brows knitted together, screwdriver in hand and his hair a soft, tousled mess—probably from pushing it back too many times. His lips were slightly parted as he muttered something to himself, too focused to notice that Nameless had gone completely quiet.

Too focused to notice the blatant staring, too.

Nameless shifted off the couch, padding over in socks until he was crouched beside his husband. He didn’t say anything at first—just sat there, watching, eyes flicking between Riel’s concentrated face and his careful hands.

“Are you winning?” Nameless asked, finally breaking the silence.

Riel blinked, slightly startled by the sudden voice beside him. “Don’t sneak up like that.”

Nameless smirked. “Didn’t sneak. Just walked over. Loudly.”

“You padded over like a cat.”

“You like cats.”

“I like you more when you’re not interrupting me mid—”

Nameless leaned in and pecked Riel on the lips.

Just a soft, innocent kiss. Barely even lasted a second. Riel blinked, utterly frozen. He hadn’t even finished his sentence.

“You’re cute when you’re focused,” Nameless murmured, chin resting on his palm as he crouched lazily beside him. “You look like you’re trying to defuse a bomb.”

Riel didn’t respond.

Nameless tilted his head, blinking innocently. “What? Did I mess something up?”

Riel dropped the tool in his hand.

There was a clatter as it hit the floor, followed by the distinct sound of Riel pulling Nameless by the collar and crashing their lips together in a kiss that was anything but soft or innocent.

Nameless barely had time to react.

Riel’s mouth was hot and forceful, his hands locking around the back of Nameless’s head as he tilted his face just right. There was no warning—just the sudden swirl of tongue, the breathless tug of lips, and the very intentional bite that landed right on Nameless’s lower lip.

Nameless gasped—more out of shock than pain—and Riel took the opportunity to deepen the kiss even further.

The smell of metal and machine oil still lingered faintly on Riel’s fingertips, but his mouth? It was all fire and heat. He kissed like he was reclaiming something. Like Nameless had stolen air from his lungs with that little peck, and now he was taking it back—every last breath of it.

By the time Riel finally pulled away, Nameless was left dizzy.

He stared blankly at the wall across them, pupils slightly blown, chest rising and falling as he tried to process the fact that he had just been kissed into next week.

“Wh—” Nameless blinked slowly. “What was that.”

“You started it,” Riel said calmly, wiping his lips with the back of his hand before picking up his screwdriver again.

“That was a peck.

“And that was a punishment.” Riel didn’t even glance at him as he spoke, the faintest of smirks tugging at the corners of his lips.

Nameless was still crouched, knees wobbling slightly. “You kissed me like you were trying to reboot my soul.”

“I was,” Riel said, entirely unbothered, eyes back on his work. “Your system needed a reset.”

Nameless blinked again, still stunned, still unable to form a coherent sentence. “I was just complimenting you.”

Riel finally turned toward him with that quiet, unreadable expression—the one Nameless knew meant trouble.

“Don’t sneak kisses when I’m working,” Riel said softly. Then, without missing a beat, he reached over, took Nameless’s hand, and brought it to his lips.

And bit.

Not hard—just enough to make Nameless jolt and hiss.

Bb—!”

A gentle nibble followed, this one more affectionate than punishing. Riel’s mouth lingered at the soft skin of Nameless’s wrist for a second longer before he let go.

Nameless stared at him, jaw slack. “You’re insane.”

“You like it,” Riel said, as he returned to tightening screws like he hadn’t just dismantled his husband’s brain with a single kiss.

Nameless slowly sat back on the floor, dazed. “ya know what? I’m not gonna be able to function for at least an hour.”

“Then stay there and keep me company, kay bb?”

“I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus.”

Riel hummed. “That’s your punishment for being sneaky.”

Nameless stared at the back of Riel’s head. “You’re ridiculous.”

“And you’re the one who kissed me first,” Riel said, quiet amusement in his tone. “Consider this a lesson.”

Nameless pouted. “Noted. Next time I’ll just throw you on the floor instead.”

“Try,” Riel replied, without even looking. “See what happens.”

Nameless didn’t move from his spot, though. He sat there like a kicked puppy, slightly flushed, heart thumping too fast—and maybe just a little bit in love all over again.

The TV was still on in the background, forgotten. The mechanical thing was nearly fixed. But Nameless? He didn’t move. He just stayed beside his husband on the floor, eyes flicking between the moving hands and the slightly smug smirk Riel failed to hide.

He wasn’t going anywhere.

Not when kisses like that came out of nowhere.
Not when his husband could dismantle machines and him in the same hour.

And definitely not when Riel reached out and ruffled his hair mid-fix with that same quiet gentleness that always made Nameless melt.

“Sit still,” Riel said. “You’re distracting.”

Nameless smirked faintly, leaning his head on Riel’s shoulder.

“Good.”
