Work Text:
It was breathtaking to see the world like this, from so far above. It reminded Ryouma of looking down the peak of a mountain. Although, obviously, the two weren't quite the same.
Here on Oryou's back, flying across the vibrant sky, the world took on a new distance compared to a mountaintop. The land stretched on and on, never stopping. The treetops blended together in a haze. The buildings of villages, towns, and cities were each smaller than his hand, the people on the roads between resembling ants. And it all rushed by below them at a steady pace, like a coursing river. How breathtaking indeed.
Ryouma was glad Oryou had given him this opportunity. Much as he had protested needing to ride her at the start of all this, not wanting to burden her back, this was a pleasant experience. He could just sit on her side, relax, and watch a wonderful view of the world go by. It was very lovely.
He would have to do something nice for her in return, Ryouma decided.
Maybe he could get her some more frogs; she liked those. Then again, he doubted Oryou would accept them if he told her they were for the view from flying. After all, she had already made clear how little she minded letting him ride her. As long as it was just for him, it really wasn't a bother to her. In that case, perhaps he'd just keep that part to himself. Or maybe instead of giving her frogs, he could do something else for her. Something subtle so she wouldn't refuse, but just as sentimental.
Ah, he'd figure it out eventually he was sure.
Whatever the case, Ryouma smiled in the air atop Oryou's back, oblivious to the warmth spreading within his heart as he thought about what would make her happy. Even as the world he watched gradually disappeared, his mind turning away from his eyes to focus on the partner he traveled with, he didn't quite pick up on said warmth yet. Nor the meaning behind it.
But the moment he would was coming soon. Then Ryouma would realize everything he felt for Oryou and what it all meant. But until that moment came, he sat there on her, with her, and happily contemplated what he could do to make her smile in joy.
It was only fair, after all.
