Past Curfews

Work Text:

Rin doesn’t realize how much he and Hiori kiss whenever they’re alone.

Maybe it’s the fact they don’t get very much time to themselves as it is. With the BM and PxG stratum being so far apart, it’s not often that they get to cross paths. Sometimes, it’s by pure coincidence. Hiori and Rin just happen to be taking a walk around the facility at the same time, and they use that to their advantage to spend more time together.

Hiori would sneak a few quick pecks on the cheek in an area without cameras here and there, but they hadn’t seen much of each other ever since the match against one another ended.

It’s not like they would have any time to do so with all of the training they're both going through at this time, but still. Rin doesn’t know why he’s so frustrated about it, it isn’t like seeing Hiori makes his day brighter.

Okay, that might’ve been a lie, but Rin erases it from his mind. It’s a fact that Hiori brings a sort of shine to Rin’s days, there isn’t any hiding that. After long hours of practicing, there’s nothing Rin desires more than to see his boyfriend. They don’t have to talk or even be in each other's presence for that long, he just wants to look at him for a few seconds to recharge and be brought back to reality.

However, a reality where he just stands and admires Hiori wouldn’t be that bad.

Not the point.

The point is that Rin is starting to miss Hiori. Is this what it means to be in a relationship? Do you start to miss them when they’re not around? God, it sounds and feels more disgusting than it looks. Rin would rather eat five warheads than ever admit that out loud. It might be easy for Bachira or Isagi or maybe even Shidou to admit that they miss someone, but Rin is more stubborn than that.

It’s not like he needs to say it, anyway. Hiori can read him like an open book and vice versa. That’s what makes their relationship so special to each other. They both have an understanding of one another that nobody else could know.

It's only a coincidence that they happened to be in the monitor room together. God must’ve heard his pleas because Hiori has his hand over his while they rewatch the match together. He occasionally drums his fingers along Rin’s as a reminder that he’s still sitting beside him. It’s unnecessary, but Hiori doesn’t hear Rin complaining.

Maybe it’s also a coincidence the way Rin stares at Hiori’s lips. Hiori remains facing forward, his eyes glued to the screen in front of him. Due to the lights being off, the glow of the previous match reflects off from Hiori’s eyes. Rin could spend hours dissecting how alluring his boyfriend is, but for now, his attention stays directed at his lips.

As he said before, it’s been quite some time since they’ve kissed. Perhaps that’s a problem that Rin created himself and can easily fix, but he grounds himself. Something about asking for a kiss embarrasses him. He’s never asked before and surely isn’t going to start now. Now that he thought about it, Hiori has always been the one to make the first move in initiating kisses.

“If you keep starin’ at me, I’m gonna get the wrong idea.” Hiori teased, smiling as he turned his head to face Rin. Their eyes met and Rin swore he felt electricity running down his spine.

“I wasn’t staring,” Rin replied with a glare. Again, he couldn't help but flicker his attention back to his lips for just a second.

Hiori chuckled, threading his fingers with Rin’s. “Your eyes just happened to look my way?”

“My eyes didn’t look anywhere. You’re seeing things.”

“Really?” Hiori tilted his head, scooting closer to Rin. “Because they're lookin’ at me right now.”

“Because you’re talking to me.” The insides of Rin’s palms start to sweat. He’s contemplating pulling his hand away from Hiori so he can't tell how nervous he really is, but he remains still and hopes Hiori doesn’t say anything about his oddly sweaty hands.

If Hiori does notice, he doesn’t say anything. He only gives him that smirk he always does when he’s up to no good. “If ya want somethin’, then you can ask.”

“I don’t know what you're talking about,” Rin said defensively, scowling. Maybe it was obvious to his boyfriend since they’d been together for quite some time, but was it that easy to tell he wanted to kiss him? Then again, Hiori saw a side of Rin that he never showed to anyone else so that's probably why it was easier to notice for him.

Hiori is Rin’s first everything . He assumes it’s the same for Hiori considering they both expressed how they lacked experience in relationships, but when Rin says everything, he means everything . Hiori has had crushes before, but Rin? He doesn’t think he’s ever met someone that ignited the same flame that Hiori has.

There’s a possibility that’s the reason he’s so hesitant to kiss Hiori. It’s not like he’s bad at it or he doesn’t think he is, Hiori hasn’t said anything about it, but either way. He’s more worried about messing it up somehow. Hiori has always kissed him first and everything, without fail, goes smoothly, but there’s an annoying voice in the back of his head that tells him it’ll all go wrong if he tries to do it first.

However, the way Hiori is looking at him now is making it quite difficult. Especially when Rin misses kissing him again.

“Ya kept starin’ at me with that look in your eye,” Hiori said.

Rin squinted at him. “What look?”

Hiori grinned. “Like ya want to kiss me.”

Rin started to feel his heart pick up its pace. When had he gotten so obvious? He averted his gaze but kept a firm grip on Hiori’s hand as a blush crept up his neck. His fingers squeezed around Hiori’s as if that would stop the heat from spreading across his face.

“…I never said that,” Rin muttered weakly under his breath.

“If you want to do it so badly, then you’re allowed.” Hiori expressed with a cheeky smile as if he was enjoying this. Knowing him, he was definitely finding joy in embarrassment. Hiori has never once passed up the opportunity to call him cute whenever he was blushing which only made it worse. His sadistic tendencies are easy to point out once you know him more. “Ya don’t have to wait. Or have ya never kissed anyone?”

Rin stayed silent.

Hiori’s eyes widened. “Wait, really?”

“Don’t act like you’ve kissed other people either,” Rin rolled his eyes, scoffing. “Besides, haven’t we talked about how we both have never been in a relationship?”

“Yeah, but I thought ya at least kissed someone before,” He responded with a laugh. “That explains why you’ve never kissed me first.”

“Whatever.” Rin turned his head, hiding his flushed expression.

“Nothin’ to be ashamed about,” Hiori said lightheartedly as he reached out to cup Rin’s cheek with his free hand. “Next time, you’ll know you're allowed to kiss me whenever.”

Hiori gets closer to his face, just inches away from him. With one simple push, Rin could finally feel the warmth of Hiori’s lips again. His breath caught, trying his best to swallow the nervousness in his throat.

Silence between the two of them wasn’t unusual, but this time, it was different. Rin could feel Hiori’s soft breathing against his skin as his gaze flickered to Hiori’s lips. They didn’t speak, they didn’t feel the need to, but everything that went unsaid pressed around them. Rin’s jaw clenched tightly, his eyes locking into Hiori’s, searching for something . Hiori didn’t look away. He knew better than that.

Every second felt dragged out. Rin had a feeling that Hiori was finding amusement in making him wait for this wrong.

When Hiori finally leans in, their lips brushing against each other, Rin instinctively slips a hand around his waist to pull him in closer. They haven’t kissed that much here considering the situation and because of their dislike for PDA, but even then, Rin finds kissing Hiori natural. It comes to him so easily.

It starts slow. Hiori’s lips plant themselves on Rin’s for only three seconds before he pulls away with a cheeky grin. Rin thought he would’ve been satisfied with just a simple peck, but he wanted more . It’s not enough which sends him seeking the thrill again.

Kissing Hiori is the equivalent of sinking into a bathtub after a long exhausting day of training. All of your muscles relax and suddenly, you feel more at ease than you’ve ever felt the entire day.

Hiori releases a pleased sigh from between his lips when Rin kisses him back, moving even closer to him. He wasn’t sure if it was possible to be any more closer than they already were, but with his eyes closed and his mind too focused on Hiori’s touch, he didn't care. Rin immediately melts against him, letting all of his worries slip away from his head and into the forbidden void.

There are a lot of things he should be concerned about right now, especially since it’s a stressful time for the both of them, but how can he concentrate when Hiori has such a way of kissing? How is he supposed to think about training when Hiori is climbing into his lap? It should really be illegal for Hiori to be this addicting.

They separate multiple times to catch their breaths and just as they think they’re finished, with just one glance at each other's eyes, they’re diving back in for more. Hiori’s hands reach up to tangle themselves in Rin’s hair, making sure to keep each other as close as he can.

Maybe making out in the monitor room isn’t the best idea right now since there are probably plenty of people in here who use this room for privacy. Considering there are no cameras, Rin can’t blame them. Whenever he wants to hang out with Hiori alone, there's always someone watching them for no reason so he usually takes Hiori here to get away from the watchful eyes. The monitor room was the best it’s gonna get.

There isn’t any feeling that describes what emotions swarm inside of him when Hiori’s teeth catch the skin of his bottom lip. There’s a secret part of him that wants to push back, letting Hiori bite his lip as hard as he wants, drawing blood if he feels the need to, but for a second, he pauses and winces in pain. Not because he doesn’t like it, but because it was out of the blue. If Hiori kept this up, then Rin was afraid he might end up liking it too much.

Mistaking Rin’s pleasure for discomfort, Hiori makes him look like a kicked puppy when he pulls away.

“Sorry,” Hiori huffs out, panting and trying to catch his breath. “I- I got carried away.”

“No-” Rin shakes his head. This is probably something they should’ve talked about before, but Rin can’t begin to imagine how that conversation would go. Instead, he tightens his hold on Hiori’s waist, hoping to get the message through. “No, I liked it.”

Stunned for a moment, Hiori blinks. A few beats of silence pass between them, the sound of heavy breathing being the only thing that can be heard.

“You… liked it?” Hiori echoes hesitantly.

Rin frowns. “Don’t make me repeat it.”

Hiori stays still for a moment, his expression unmoving. His chest rises and falls, panting softly before he smiles teasingly. “You’re impossible to please, y’know that?”

Rin rolls his eyes, answering by connecting their mouths together once more. Hiori responded with a soft sigh, breathless and needy. Rin could feel Hiori’s warmth through his lips, almost as if they were frantic for more

His thoughts ran rampant as Hiori bit his lip again, giving it a lightheaded tug. However, the second time was different. Knowing that Rin enjoyed it before, Hiori doesn’t have anything holding him back. Rin isn’t sure if Hiori bit hard enough to draw blood, but he doesn’t have the confidence to care. He should question it, but when pain and pleasure mix together, he drifts further away from reality and loses himself.

Rin’s breathing stutters and pushes their lips together again like he can’t get enough. The fingers entangled in Rin’s hair gripped harder, pulling on a few strands that made his head blossom in pain, but he didn't make any sign of agitation. He should question why everything Hiori does makes him feel bliss, even if it’s supposed to hurt, but that would mean he has to distract himself from Hiori’s lips on his, so he decides to think about it later.

Their lips parted, the kiss ending in gasps, but the space between them still shook from the tension. Their hands remained in the same place, motionless. Rin’s hands were still tight on Hiori’s waist and Hiori’s fingers held onto the back of his head. Maybe they didn’t want to leave the intimate space they created for each other, but eventually, they both knew they couldn’t continue forever. They stared at each other like they didn’t know what was next.

Then, Hiori frowns. A soft and gentle frown that sent sparks inside of Rin’s heart. However, he doesn’t understand why Hiori is frowning. Was it not good for him? Rin thought it was going swimmingly, but maybe he read the signs wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s done it.

Hiori slowly moved the hand that was clutching the back of Rin’s head to his cheek, cradling his face as seconds ticked by. Then, Hiori’s thumb swiped across his bottom lip. Rin could only watch, still reeling from before.

“You’re bleedin’,” Hiori mumbles.

So that’s why he looked so upset. Rin looked to the side. “It’s fine.”

“Sorry again,” He says, feeling remorseful for no reason. “Ya should’ve told me to stop if it hurt.”

I wanted it to.

Rin shrugged. He didn’t feel like explaining any further why he didn’t say anything about it hurting. Hiori would take every opportunity to tease him about it. “It didn’t.”

Hiori inspected his lip for a few more seconds before pulling away and climbing off of Rin’s lap, much to his dismay. “We’re past curfew.”

“We are.”

“Are ya a broken record or somethin’?” He laughs. “I gotta go back to my room.”

This time, it’s Rin’s turn to frown. God forbid he wants to see his boyfriend for a bit longer. He seriously hates Ego for creating curfews.

“Don’t look so down,” Hiori says. “We’ll get another chance to be alone later.”

Later is the problem. Being in Blue Lock doesn’t give them many openings to be alone together. Hiori talks as if they’re going to find a way behind that. Then again, they found a way to keep the monitor rooms to themselves so the future is unpredictable.

When Hiori leaves, Rin falls backward on the floor. He brings his fingers up to touch the blood on his mouth to see if Hiori is telling the truth. Upon the contact, his lips sting for a bit but it’s nothing Rin hasn't dealt with before.

Fuck , he should’ve walked Hiori back to his room to save more time.
