It was the reception of Buck and Eddie’s wedding and everyone was enjoying themselves before the party got wild later.
Suddenly there was a clinking noise that spread throughout the room. All eyes turned to the middle of the floor where Maddie stood with a microphone in hand.
There was a moment of static before Maddie’s honey sweet voice came through,
“Hello everybody, I just wanted to propose a speech to the newlywed’s!” There was a quick cheer,
She then turned her attention to Buck and Eddie where they stood together, Eddie leaning slightly into Buck’s side, head on his shoulder.
“I want to begin this speech by saying how incredibly proud I am of both of you and I truly think you are the perfect match for each other-” Tears were starting to well in her eyes
“-and” She says, choked up
“Eddie, you have helped my brother to become the man he is today and I thank you so much for that. I can see the love you have for him and I am just so glad that you care for him and love him for who he is, unchanged.”
She could see that Buck was crying, she hoped they were happy tears but from the beaming smile on his face she could assume she was doing a good job.
“ I don’t want to put a damper on the mood but I think it’s important to say that whilst I was raising you, because let’s be honest I did more than our parents ever did or will,"
There was a slight groan form the room.
"It was some of the best years of my life because I had you. I had your kind nature with me. Your golden heart looking out for me and continuing to now. I had your trust, your trust in me is something I will never take for granted. I may have left twice but I promise to never leave you again and now that you have Eddie as your wonderful husband I know that you will never be alone.”
Maddie was full on crying now, tears streaming down her face. She knew she must have looked a bit of a mess but she didn’t care, as-long as her little brother was happy.
“We have all watched you two painfully pine and dance around each other for almost 8 years now and I think I can say for everyone that we all saw it coming.”
The room erupted in laughter, everybody agreeing with what Maddie was saying. It felt good to know her brother so well after all, she did miss out on half of his life but that didn’t matter now because she was making up for it by being here and turning him into Uncle Buck with her two beautiful children. Plus now she was going to be Aunty Maddie or is it Tia Maddie? It doesn’t matter anyway because Buck was adopting Chris and them being happy and starting their new family was all that mattered.
“I don’t want to make this too long because I can see Jee eyeing the cake-” A burst of laughter
“-but I just wanted to say that it’s been an honour seeing you two grow, even if it has been frustrating watching you fumble around. When Evan first mentioned you to me Eddie, I teased him for having a boy-crush on you, never did I think that that boy-crush would come this far.” Buck giggled
“Congratulations to Buck and Eddie!” She ended
“Mommy can I have cake now?” Jee innocently said
The room started to laugh and the music continued playing.
Maddie didn’t think she had ever been happier.
