Chapter Text
“...and finally, Team 10. Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara, Choji Akimichi.” Iruka looked up. “That’s everyone, right?”
“You forgot about me, sensei.” The source of the voice was a girl with long dark blue hair, almost black, and ice blue eyes. An open volume of Bleach sat in front of her on her desk. “Again. That’s the 46th time I’ve been forgotten in this academy.”
It’s true, she didn’t exactly have much presence despite hello- blue hair.
“Ah, right, and you’re...”
The girl sighed as if used to this. “Fuyuka.”
“Uh, Fuyuka... Fuyuka...”
“Fuyuka Hoshino.”
Iruka’s gaze finally landed on one spot on the paper in his hands. “Oh, right, the number of passers aren’t a multiple of three due to Naruto’s sudden graduation, so you’ll be put into a four-man team- Team 7.”
Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke glanced up at the sound of their team, glancing at the blue-haired girl who would join their team.
Fuyuka sat on a bench, enjoying a platter of sushi in peace. Naruto and Sakura seemed to be simping idiots, and Sasuke had a terrible personality. Overall, life sucked.
She watched in quasi-amusement as her three teammates argued, something involving transforming, being alone, and dumb crushes.
Man, people are idiots.
Not only were here teammates idiots, the team’s jonin leader was late. Unlike her dumb unprepared teammates, Fuyuka was prepared to wait, with three volumes of Bleach and a box of sushi.
Today, the girl was dressed in a long-sleeved white shirt, trousers, long white stockings and a blue jacket. It wasn’t like she ever touched a single color other than different shades of blue, black and white, and the occasional teal.
Naruto decided to put an eraser on top of the half-open door as a prank, something Fuyuka found quite amusing but didn’t mention.
‘That’s another one done,’ she thought, putting away volume 9 into her blue satchel. Thankfully, she was free from having to burn through her stash this quickly by the jonin they were waiting for finally arrive- the white haired but not a grandpa, Kakashi Hatake.
He dragged them outside and made them do Fuyuka’s least favorite thing- introduce yourself.
“I’m Naruto Uzumaki, and I’m gonna be the Hokage! I like ramen, and my hobby is eating ramen!” Naruto announced dramatically. While a bit outlandish, at least he actually introduced himself.
“I’m Sakura Haruno, I like S-s- m-my hobbies are S-” She was a squealing mess, earning the subtlest of eyerolls from Fuyuka. “And I hate... Naruto!”
“Sasuke Uchiha. I don’t really like anything, and I dislike everything. My goal... is to destroy ‘someone’.” Vague, cool, kind of arrogant and overdramatic.
“And you?”
Fuyuka blinked when she noticed that it was her turn now.
“Fuyuka Hoshino. I like cats, sushi, manga, the color blue, the number 8, the month July, and stargazing. I hate socializing,” she said. “And my goal... sounds like none of your business.”
“Great. Tomorrow, at 5AM, you will undertake a survival test. And don’t eat breakfast.”
Despite the complaints, that was that.
Fuyuka wanted to eat breakfast anyways, but her sister said no. Kogane Hoshino was a chunin at the time, and basically Fuyuka’s caretaker despite her dramatic and overconfident attitude and massive ego.
Kogane had long black hair naturally streaked with gold, just slightly longer than Fuyuka’s, something she liked to flex. Her eyes were a nice shade of amber, which made her immensely popular during her academy days.
“Do you want to become a kunoichi or not? Do what your sensei tells you,” she scolded, snatching Fuyuka’s bag of bread.
“Oh please, it’s not like you listened to your sensei when you just graduated,” Fuyuka sniped back, but dropped her fork and knife. She left the table, not before pocketing a bagel.
The blue-haired ninja fed her cat, Kuro, before letting him roam, then slung her bag over her shoulder and strolled to the location. The four members of Team 7 were all exhausted, waiting for Kakashi for several hours. Just before the mysterious jonin arrived, Fuyuka finished off her bagel, smirking slightly at Naruto's drooling.
“I’m here,” Kakashi called, finally arriving now that the sun was high in the sky. “I saw a black cat, so I had to go the long way.”
“That was my cat,” Fuyuka argued.
“Well, anyways.” Kakashi introduced the bell test to the team. He had managed to get a third bell, so that only one would be sent back to the academy.
Hey, this can’t be that hard.
It was that hard. Fuyuka stayed hidden for the most part, as Naruto decided to be an idiot and announce his presence. As the blond was dangled from a tree by a rope trap, Sasuke attacked, only to be buried into the ground. Meanwhile, Sakura screamed loudly for some part of the forest. As Kakashi was regrowing the Uchiha clan, Fuyuka ran out as quickly as she could with a clone Jutsu, aiming to snatch a bell only to be deflected by a Taijutsu strike to her knee.
This was going terribly.
By the time her legs stopped hurting enough to get up, the opening was gone, and she ducked back into the forest. However, it was already far too late to pass. Time’s up, they failed.
“Why did we put you in a three- well, four man team?” was what Kakashi demanded as soon as the failed students returned. “I won’t be sending you four back to the academy, I’m dropping you for good. You’ll never become ninja with this mindset.”
The masked jonin glared at the four. “The key to obtaining a bell was teamwork. Sakura, you only cared about Sasuke and ignored Naruto and Fuyuka. Sasuke, you felt superior and refused to cooperate with the others. Naruto, you always work alone. Fuyuka, you refuse to work in a group in any situation.”
The silver-haired man sighed. “...eat, and replenish your strength. You’ll get another chance. However, Naruto cannot eat, and if anyone feeds him, they fail.”
Kakashi walked away, leaving Naruto tied up and the other three genin each with a lunch box. Unsure as to what else to do, Fuyuka opened her bento box and slowly began eating the sushi.
Naruto watched hungrily as the three ate, until Sasuke suddenly raised his box towards the blond.
“Eat. Restore your strength, and we can get the bell together. Kakashi told us to work as a team so that’s what we’ll do.”
Hesitantly, Sakura raised her half finished box too. “Have this too. I’m... on a diet.”
Fuyuka sighed, following her team’s example and handing the blond her mostly finished box as well. “I don’t like onigiri that much anyways and I finished all the sushi, have this too.”
Naruto’s eyes watered dramatically at his three teammates. “Aww, thanks. But, hey Sakura, my arms are tied up, can you feed me?”
Sakura was freed from answering by Kakashi suddenly looming behind them. “You all... broke the rules...”
