first love

Summary:

The first seraphim to fall in love with a human.

Chapter 1: Golden Memories

Chapter Text

Since her creation, Sera had been assigned to observe the development of the first humans. As a seraphim, her duty was not to interfere, but to subtly guide, to ensure that the divine plan flowed as it should. But from the very first day she saw him, Sera knew Adam was different.

He was beautiful—a perfect specimen, strong yet serene, curious, full of questions he wasn’t always supposed to ask. He walked through the Garden of Eden with Lilith by his side, who was as fierce as he was contemplative. Both humans were masterpieces.

Sera would descend sometimes, under the excuse of checking on their progress. She would speak to Adam, instruct him, ask about his duties, about his life with Lilith. It was never for long, but with each visit, she felt something slowly burning her wings.

“Do you think Lilith is happy here?” Adam asked one day, plucking a dead leaf from a plant. “Sometimes I feel like she looks beyond the garden.”

Sera hesitated.

“Lilith has a free spirit. It’s part of her perfection. But this place was created for you both. It was made for your well-being.”

Adam nodded, though his gaze drifted toward the horizon.

Time passed. Sera began to realize that she looked forward to her visits to the garden. She prepared more than she needed to. She descended more frequently. She smiled when he greeted her. She began avoiding Lilith—not out of disdain, but because her very presence reminded her that this was wrong. That Adam was not meant for her.

Until one day, Lucifer and Lilith fled Eden.

The news shook the heavens. The elders were furious. Samael, the light-bringer, had disobeyed and run away with a woman. From that moment on, he would be known as Lucifer.

Sera was worried—not just about the celestial chaos, but about what that act truly meant. Deep down, she knew she had felt the same as Samael. And that terrified her.

She rushed to the Garden, knowing Adam would be alone. But on her way, she was intercepted.

“Sera, now is not the time to go to the Garden,” said Michael sternly. “We need to discuss Lucifer and Lilith.”

“I know, but Adam is…” Sera replied.

“Adam will be fine. We’ll find a way to deal with him,” Michael said.

“I must go see him,” Sera insisted.

Michael frowned.

“You and Adam…?” he asked with a warning tone.

“Of course not! I would never do that to Heaven, I would never go against God’s will,” Sera exclaimed, hurt.

“I’m sorry for doubting you... My brother said the same. And look where it led him—to flee like a harpy with that woman,” Michael said bitterly. “Go see Adam.”

Sera descended. She found him just as she feared—hugging himself, crying amidst the flowering bushes.

“Adam…” she whispered as she approached.

He looked at her, eyes red from crying. He said nothing, only threw himself at her and wrapped his arms around her waist. Without thinking, Sera enveloped him with her wings.

“We’re doing something… to fix what Samael has done,” she said softly.

“Lilith abandoned me,” Adam sobbed. “I’m alone.”

“They’ll deny him entry to Heaven. And Lilith… her fate is still undecided. But if you want…”

“No. I don’t hate her. I know she wasn’t happy here… not with me. But still… outside the garden, it’s dangerous. I want her to realize what she’s lost.”

Sera looked at him with sorrow. It was the first time she saw resentment in him—a feeling that had not existed before.

“I’m sorry, Adam,” she said, gently brushing his hair. “I’m so sorry…”

It was then that she knew she should have distanced herself earlier. She should have controlled the warmth that bloomed in her chest every time she saw him. But she didn’t. And now it was too late.

Soon after, Eve was created. Blonde, with eyes as green as the eternal fields of Eden. Adam was fascinated, and Sera, upon seeing him with her, decided to withdraw completely. She kept her distance. Became invisible.

But then… Lucifer and Lilith returned. The serpent spoke. The apple was bitten.

Sera descended just as Adam, out of fear of being alone, bit it too. Her heart broke in silence.

The exile was immediate. Adam and Eve were cast out of Eden. Sera said nothing. She only watched. And she trembled at the thought of what would have happened if she had crossed that line.
