Work Text:

“Jin wake up” someone says prodding him, as he rolls over in bed hugging his pillow closer.

“Jin you really need to let go of me.” The person says again as Jin not hearing it properly rubs his head more into his pillow.

“Yuichi wake up” the person says before Jin feels two hands on his side and someone tickling.

Jin bursts out in laughter jerking awake immediately to see Karya in front of him. The tan boy just glares at Jin, before a grin breaks out on his face. “Happy Birthday Jin.” He says squeezing Jin’s face between his hands.

Jin calms down from laughing as he just lies in his bed yawning.

“Why’d you wake me up” Jin says stretching with a yawn.

“Well you would miss Oyaji and Aunt Mina if you took to long.” Karya replies getting out of the bed. “Plus they made waffles, and got your favorite jam for you.” That perks Jin up, his favorite jam and he jumps out of bed.

The older boy dashes out of the room as soon as he gets his clothes on. Jin rushing after him with a smile.

Entering the dining room, Oyaji and Mina Mogami both are sitting at the table. Karya rushes over to his seat as Oyaji turns around to look at Jin.

“Happy Birthday Jin” he says in a soothing voice and as Jin walks up, the man ruffles his hair. Jin sits down for the happy breakfast, thinking about what led to this point.

Jin was standing in the mall, his eyes were distant. Jin was alone, no one would come for him after everything that happened. None of his relatives cared to take him in, making excuses left and right.

That’s how he ended up in this bright mall, sitting on the fountain with a wallet in his hand and not knowing what to spend it on.

The water in the fountain splashes beside him, and he sees another kid there probably a year older than him or so. The kid stares at him and it feels like they were piercing through his soul.

A man walks up to come pick up the kid, and Jin turns away. 5 minutes later something changes from his vision, previously he saw the kid just walk away but now there was a hand in front of him.

“Hey, you wanna join us?” The kid asks as Jin looks up at him. Jin stays silent however, the kid still grabs Jin’s hand running up to the man from earlier.

“Gami-san, he said he’ll join us.” The kid says with a grin before turning to Jin. “My name is Karya, and that’s Mogami-san” the boy points at the man still holding Jin’s hand.

“We’re going to get ice cream and play games, since we have a day off.” They grin at Jin as they start walking towards the ice cream store.

Karya asked a lot of questions while hopping around excitedly. When they got to the ice cream story, Karya got mint chocolate chip and Jin looked at the ice cream questionably. It had been a long time since he got any, so he decided on basic vanilla which Karya replied.

“We’ll figure out your favorite flavor in the future.” They grin at Jin, and the blue eyed boy just nods. As Mogami trails after them with a chuckle.

They go to the game store, Karya’s luck is amazing but Jin was easily winning all the games. Which ended with Karya just grabbing his shoulders and shaking him in excitement. Mogami shaking his head in the background in exasperation as Jin started getting dizzy.

Jin just gave Karya all his tickets though not caring. Except Karya just came out with a pair of matching little seal plushies and bracelets. Hanging over the black seal plush to Jin before grabbing his hand again.

They stopped by a few more places but it didn’t leave as much as an impact on him. Before they were back where he was by the fountain. Karya waves saying that they hoped, he would see Jin again. Mogami just nods towards Jin, ruffling his hair.

Mogami already a certain distance away Karya walks back handing a bracelet over to Jin. As Jin watches him disappear in the distance.

That night as Jin lies in bed, the bed he won’t have in a week. He starts tearing up, hugging his seal plush blaming himself.

His mother had only died because he hadn’t told her about his visions beforehand. He knows that, he saw it. He should have told her before she walked out the door that day.

MY FAULT

MY FAULT

MY FAULT

He had been sitting in school, waiting for her to come back. But she never did, he knew why and he saw the vision. He decided not to go with her, there was even a vision where he went with her. Though in fear of his death in that vision he decided not to.

Jin rubs his face in the seal. Things would change, if he let them. Karya would come back to the fountain tomorrow, if he went and his family members saw him with them. They would ask if Mogami could take care of Jin, Jin knows this.

But what if their fate is the same, what if they die on him as well. He doesn’t want to live with that guilt on his conscious, he didn’t want that to happen. They were kind people, Jin didn’t deserve that; all he does is get kind people killed.

Jin stood behind a tree near the fountain hiding. He still ended up coming in the end he couldn’t stop himself. However he looks over his shoulder towards the fountain. Watching as Karya comes up to it, looking around worried before just sitting there.

Karya turns in his direction as Jin flinches and hides behind the tree again. He hears a crack as he looks up, screeching.

Karya was standing over him with a creepy mask on, Karya seeing his face falls back chuckling.

“Hey what was that for-“Jin says abruptly before stopping himself realizing he’s yelling. He hasn’t said anything that loud in a while.

“You looked sad, had to spook you into awareness” the older boy replies, as Jin glares. “You also didn’t come to our meeting spot, did something happen.”

“Nothing happened, I just didn’t want to see you” Jin says properly sitting down from his fallen position.

Karya sits as well, starring at Jin with no pity apparent. Instead his eyes reflect compassion, worry and pure kindness.

“It’s my fault..” Jin whispers as he folds his arms on his knees. Karya doesn’t say anything just listening as Jin continues.

“My mother died because of me, and I don’t want that to happen to anyone else.” Karya continues staring before getting up and walking over to Jin. But Jin doesn’t move as Karya comes and wraps their arms around him.

“I don’t think that’s your fault.” Karya mutters holding onto Jin. “You don’t even know what happened, you don’t even know my name.” The blue eyed male says as tears start coming from his eyes.

“I know you though, after just one day.” The older male says as he hugs Jin tighter. “You’re a kind person, kinder than the average person. You pay attention to what’s around you and try to help. You don’t back down when you see someone being treated unfairly and more.” Karya moves away from the hug but doesn’t stop touching Jin, sitting beside Jin and wrapping an arm around his shoulder.

“There’s so much more to you.” Karya says rubbing Jin’s back as Jin just sits there crying before lying on Karya falling asleep.

“Hey, you’re awake” Karya says looking at Jin who started getting up from where he laid. He was on something soft and as he looks down he realizes he was on a couch.

“We brought you to our home, since you passed out and we have no way to contact your family.” Mogami says walking over from another room, Jin guesses is the kitchen with a mug in his hand. He gives the mug to Jin as the blue eyed boy continues sitting there.

Jin stares for a moment, before picking up the mug and taking a sip. ‘Hot chocolate’ he thinks being cautious to not burn his tongue.

“I don’t really have a family or home per se” Jin starts talking without realizing. As Mogami and Karya sit silently near by. “In about a week, I’ll be sent to an orphanage. Since none of my family members want me and both my parents are now dead.” Jin continues finishing his hot chocolate in the process.

Jin looks up to both Mogami and Karya’s worried expression. He rubs the back of his neck, before getting up and giving the mug back to Mogami.

“Sorry for taking up so much of your time.” Jin says giving a slight bow.

“Do you want to leave?” Karya asks Jin as Jin then nods.

However the only thought going through Jin’s head was. ‘I don’t wanna leave, not here, not my home, not even you guys.’ He just railed himself in, what he wanted didn’t matter, if he got to close they many end up dead like his mother.

Karya nods with a slight grimace as he gets up leading Jin to the front door.

“Bye, Jin. See you later!” Karya says waving as Jin starts walking home. He knows this neighborhood, it was only one block away from his old house. His mom used to drive him through here to school and if not driving, walk.

‘Later a term that means one day, someday in the future.’ Jin thinks as he lies in bed at his temporary home. ‘One day, one day he’d meet them again.’

The week ended before Jin knew it. And he was packing his stuff in the car as he would be dropped off at the orphanage soon.

He gets in the car holding tight to his bracelet with its singular charm. There was another car as well when they arrive in the drop off area.

But as he walks in, he sees other people walking towards him. A person he recognizes and a stranger.

“Jin Yuichi right?” the stranger says as they have documents on a clipboard with them. Jin nods to him and holds onto his bracelet.

“Well this man came to adopt you, so you no longer have to be here. Just come to the office and we will get your papers signed off.” The lady says as they walk past Jin to a door not that far away.

Jin looks up at Mogami who had a smile on his face and ruffled his hair. As together they walk to the office.

“We still have daily health checks, due to Karya correct……” The conversation blurs in as the two people continue talking. “Today you’re adopting Jin Yuichi, did you know him previously?” Jin’s awareness spikes as he hears his name and Mogami replies with a simple “Yes”.

“Since the check in’s are still going on, we’ll just add a few more objectives you may need to hit. Otherwise the paperwork is done, and there isn’t much more since Jin hadn’t fully been moved into the orphanages care.” The woman says passing over some paperwork to Mogami to finish up. Jin watches Mogami look it over and sign off before they start walking out of the orphanage towards his car.

“Hey Jin, you’re finally here.” Karya says grabbing his hand as soon as Mogami opens the door to the house. “Ya I’m here” Jin mutters as Karya grins at him and starts pulling him along.

“Told you, I would see you later right.” The tan boy says with a grin. “I didn’t think you would just full on adopt me.” Jin says in a louder tone.

Karya chuckles. “That’s the kind of energy I like, come on I have to show you to your room.” They continue pulling him along through the house with a smile. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jin was in front of Border base. Konami comes out with a smile as she pulls him in.

“Jin, Jin this is going to be amazing.” The ginger says energetic. “Well, it’s my birthday after all.” He says before someone hit him in the head. “Inflated ego.” Shin says coming from the corner.

“Hey, I’m the birthday boy you know.” Jin says with a slight glare. “An we def get our birthday punches” Karya says chuckling before hitting Jin on the arm, Jun coming from behind Karya.

Konami gasps pointing at Jun. “What are you doing here” Jun looks over and smiles. “It’s my friends birthday had to bring him a gift. Right cousin?” Jun gives a sincere smile and Konami stops pointing sweat dropping at her honest cousin.

“I got him out of babysitting duty” Karya says pointedly, as Jun just brushes him off replying with “I would have got out anyways to deliver this birthday gift.” the dark brunette says. Shin chuckles “Ya if you say so.” Jun brushes the man off to.

Jin walks into the dinning room/living room of the Takakoma base when confetti bursts in the air. An there is almost everyone right in front of him.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”

Jin just smiles as some tears fall from his eyes.

“Noooo he’s crying.” Karya says hugging him.

“His tears better not mess up anything, I want cake” Rintaro says glaring as his hand grasped his shoulder to get him to chill.

“Relax” Motoki says shaking his head.

Everyone starts talking and celebrating as the cake is cut as well. Gifts are in the corner unopened as Karya sits beside Jin, while Jin eats his cake.

“SOoooo Best Birthday” The older asks as Jin shakes his head.

“Has to be a tie between this and my 9th” Jin says thinking about his mom as Karya looks blown away before chuckling and nodding.

“Well congrats on being 14 my little seer.” Karya ruffles his hair as Jin pouts, before giving a smile while the older male isn’t looking.

Present:

Jin sits in his room after everything celebratory ended. He looks into his binder of photos where it’s them on his birthday and him with icing on his cheeks.

This year was also good, Jun was there, Shinoda came, this year they even had Chika and Mikumo with them. But it could never be as good as the number 1’s.

He reaches for his seal plushie, still in decent condition and looks at the white seal right beside it. He hadn’t touched the white seal, and the camera in front of it.

Jin hugs his little seal plushie, as he thinks about his birthday and what could have been different. His phone dings for a moment with a message on it.

“Happy birthday, se^%. I’m coming.” The phone has the message for 30 minutes and then the message disappears, like it was never there in the first place.
