Work Text:
After a gruelling and tedious lesson of maths, it was now finally time for lunch! Hatsune Miku cheered as she left the classroom following the bell ringing as she's been looking forwards to this moment all day, dragging her girlfriend Kagamine Rin along with her.
"Do we have to go so fast?" Rin questioned while gasping for air in between words.
"We're hardly going as fast as you're making it out to be, Rinrin!" Miku replied, "Besides, we need to get a good table outside!"
The two girls had been friends since they were toddlers but they had only started dating a few weeks ago after discovering their feelings for each other were requited. Their relationship is only just developing but to most of their friends it seems like they've been together for years, which in a way is technically true.
They dashed out of the door together and we're now racing towards the outside tables. The two girls were just going eat alone together but after finding their friend Megpoid Gumi already sitting on one alone, they decided to join her.
"That was quick! Why are you two in such a rush?" The green haired girl questioned as the two girls sat opposite to her.
"Ask... Miku..." The blonde haired girl exhaled, still trying to catch her breath after what was intense exercise for her.
"Because it's lunchtime! The best part I'd the day!" The teal haired girl answered with a grin.
"Why is lunch the best part of the day?" Gumi asked.
"Because I get to sit and eat good food with my cute girlfriend Rin and cool best friend Gumi! It's just great!" Miku explained, pointing finger guns when mentioning the green haired girl.
"Right..." She muttered and then bent down to reach for her bag.
Gumi pulled out a dark green bento box and placed it on the table before opening it to reveal a carrot curry with carrot sticks in a pot on the side and a carrot cake for after.
"You sure love carrots!~" The teal haired girl pointed out while smiling smugly.
"Shut up," The green haired girl deadpanned before tucking in to her orange food.
Miku then excitedly pulled up her backpack onto her knees and then began to unzip it. It's time for the moment she's been waiting for! The moment where she would pull out her cyan coloured bento box with Cinnamoroll stickers which would reveal a spring onion sandwich, cheese and onion crisps and a leek, and-!...
But as her hand skimmed through all of the contents of her bag, she couldn't seem to feel the plastic of her bento box. She then unzipped her backpack wider and poked her head in, but to her suprise, her lunchbox wasn't there!
"NOOOOOOOOO!" Miku cried out in disappointment, tears emerging in her blue eyes as this to her was the same amount of pain she would feel if she was being broken up with.
"What's wrong, Miku?" Rin asked, her voice and facial expression full of concern.
"M-my l-lunchbox isn't here!" The teal haired girl wailed, the bag falling out of her knees and back onto the grass of the field.
"Are you sure?" Her blonde haired girlfriend questioned, bending over to reach for the blue backpack, "It's unlike you to forget such an important thing as your lunch..."
She searched through the contents herself, but still to her suprise, her girlfriend's bento box really wasn't in her bag. Rin scratched the back of her head with confusion.
"It really isn't in there..." The blonde haired girl muttered.
"I did tell you!" Her teal haired girlfriend sobbed.
"It's really not that big of a deal so I don't understand why you're complaining so much," Gumi interrupted while taking a bite out if one of her carrot sticks, "What? You don't have enough money to buy your own lunch?"
"But Miku only really likes specific foods, which is why she always brings her own leek and spring onion themed lunch to school," Rin protested.
"Welp, I guess it's just karma for her making fun of me for liking carrots," The green haired girl rebuttled.
"Well that simply won't do," The blonde haired girl shook her head before turning her face to look at her upset partner, "But it's really unlike you to forget something like that..."
"I did definitely make it, I guess I just forgot to put it in my bag..." Miku sighed, until she then remembered something which made her begin to ball her eyes out hysterically again, "B-but I made you ch-chocolate orange c-cake which I was going to g-give you today!..."
Rin put an arm around her girlfriend and let her cry into her shoulder. She glared at their green haired friend who did nothing but roll her eyes at the emotional roller coaster Miku was going through until she suddenly came up with a brilliant idea. Light bulb moment!
"Wait! Why don't you have some of my lunch instead of buying your own?" She suggested.
"She really could just buy her own..." Gumi mumbled to herself.
"Shut up," Rin deadpanned.
"What did I do?!" The green haired girl exclaimed.
"But do you have any leek or spring onion flavoured food?" Miku asked, wiping her tears away as she looked hopefully into her girlfriend's eyes.
"Unfortunately no because we don't exactly see eye to eye on food tastes..." Her girlfriend muttered, but then smiled again soon after, "But I do have some really cute food!"
"Really?" The teal haired girl beamed.
"Oh great..." Gumi sighed.
The two girlfriends side-eyed her before grinning at each other again as Rin reached down to get her backpack. She took out her yellow bento box covered in Sanrio character stickers and then opened it up to reveal the treats inside.
Waiting inside the coloured container was rice balls shaped and stylised to look like cats and rabbits with vegetables on the side with orange slices and small chocolates for after. Miku felt like she had died from cuteness overload and her soul leaving her body witnessing the beauty of this masterpiece.
"What do you think?" Rin asked while smiling.
"Perfection~" Miku muttered deeply and enficiced her point by doing a hand gesture of approval and her eyes shut through her tears.
The blonde haired girl giggled before beginning to eat some of her rice balls, and her girlfriend did the same. The food tasted just as good as it looked so the teal haired girl was very satisfied with it.
The two girlfriends then began to chat with each other to take their mind off of the tragedy of Miku forgetting her lunch. The two often start off by talking about something random and then delve into more interesting conversations from there, and it's very interesting to watch.
At least it definitely was for Gumi, who sat and watched all of this while eating her food. The topics and conspiracies were so interesting that she didn't butt in at all and hanged onto the ends of each word said.
Miku and Rin eventually noticed this because of how intense the green haired girl's stares got and turned to smile at her smugly, which made her turn away with a red and embarrassed face.
"Are we suddenly interesting to you now?~" The two girls hummed their question, their mouths tugging up at the end like that of a cat.
"Of course not! Shut up!" She had shouted at them while turning her face away.
The teal haired girl and blonde haired girl laughed to themselves while the green haired girl took deep breaths to recompose herself. Once she had done so, she then giggled a little herself before smiling.
"I will admit, you two are very cute," Gumi said, "I hope one day I can have a relationship like yours..."
"Don't worry, Gumi! I'm sure you will!" Rin reassured her.
"That is as long as you don't push them away by teasing them about something they're picky about!~" Miku added with smug grin.
The green haired girl let out an annoyed grunt before she then ended up laughing along with her two friends. Anyone would admit these two girls are perfect for each other, and everyone deserves to have a relationship just as cute and wholesome as theirs...
