Crystal cursed under her breath.
Google Maps wasn't loading and her fingers starting to freeze, not to mention the fact that Charles was worse than a toddler when he was bored.
"Have you found-"
"No, Charles, I haven't found it."
"Guess you'll have to ask someone, then, won't you?" He jabbed her with his finger.
"Ask them yourself," she retorted uselessly. It had been her job to navigate for them. Charles had bought both of their bus tickets, and he gave her a look that said he knew it. She rolled her eyes - "Fine."
Shoving her phone back into her pocket, she straightened up. But as soon as she met the stranger's eyes, everything else stopped. She must have managed to blurt something about needing directions, but obviously still looked lost enough that, at the end of her explanation, this angel-on-earth was offering to show her the way.
Crystal gave a breathless nod which made Charles snicker behind her. She tried to glare back at him, but it was half-hearted. More importantly, she fell back into step with the girl. Charles hung back a bit - Crystal knew he would be ruthlessly teasing her as soon as he got the chance.
"My name's Niko."
"I, uh. I'm Crystal," she managed. "Me and Charles are staying in Port Townsend for a while."
"Cool. I live above the Tongue and Tail Butcher's. I can show you around sometime? I'll give you my number."
"Yeah," Crystal choked. "Yeah, that would be great, actually."
Maybe Charles wouldn't be able to make fun of her too much, in the end. She unlocked her phone, offering up a blank contact - Google Maps was loading now, not that she needed it. When the girl left, Crystal had to open her phone up again, checking that it was real.
