Kid paused before opening the door to the luxurious suite his father booked for him and Maka, “You’re going to check in, right?” he turned to look at Maka, hesitant to leave her alone while he stayed with his boyfriend.
”You bet, now open the door.” Maka couldn’t wait to have Kid’s apartment all to herself. Now that they’ve graduated college and all, she could reward herself with a vacation away from her father and Kid could make up for lost time with his dear Soul.
"Maka, I’m serious." Kid insisted, even though the two had planned this trip together, it was Maka who convinced Kid to spend the month with Soul so that she wouldn’t be third wheeling them all the time.
“And I said I would.” Maka chuckled giving him a light shove “I know you promised your dad you’d be a gentleman and protect me but I can handle myself.” she placed her hands over Kid’s “Besides, I’ll be hanging with you and your lover boy most of the day.” she teased
Kid looked back at her, a little bashful at the mention of Soul “Just be careful. I know you can take care of yourself, but still… I care about you.”
“Awww… come here.” Maka pulled Kid into a hug, trying to be as symmetrical about it as possible “I promise that I’ll check in and make things as stress free as possible for you.”
Kid’s shoulders slouched as he let out a sigh of relief “Thanks Maka.” he was grateful for his friend’s reassurance. Even though Maka’s never let him down, a part of his brain always asks for, and sometimes insists, on confirmation. Maka being able to confidently do that is what makes them such great friends.
”So…” Maka’s gaze shifted between the door and Kid as she tried to not so subtly change the topic.
Kid let out an exasperated sigh before opening the door and handing Maka the key card “Room’s all yours.”
Maka gleefully took the key card and practically danced into the suite while Kid followed with her bags in tow. This vacation was going to be fun.
