Chapter Text
Everyone who came into this church just by following their curiosity and the big furry cat who friendly meowed and wagged his tail. They all wanted to pat him while he was lying on the porch and licking his fur. He was seen as the embodiment of tenderness and softness.
The cat agreed with all these pleasant words he heard from people. He truly was the embodiment of tenderness and softness. It was the reason why he waited for every single one who went past the church.
But honestly, the location of the church wasn’t a convenient one. It was on the outskirts of a tiny village, and there was only one road past the church. It led to a dozen empty houses and a thick forest. There was a train station behind the forest, but trains ran very rarely and foolishly. Probably they didn’t know about their own schedule.
A big part of people who walked along this road hurried and didn’t care about the cat. They wanted to get on a train on time, though they didn’t know what time it was. Only a few people went past the church in a day. A pair of them looked at the cat and came up. Rarely they came into the church after the cat.
“But there is a Heaven on Earth!” Jungsu thought walking inside the empty gray church. He loved to wander at night after no one followed him during the day. The church smelled of dust, and inside it was always so chilly and dark. This place was so mysterious, so Jungsu loved to wander…
Which people had served in this church? How many eyes had looked at the village from the high bell tower? How many people had woken up to the sound of the bells? There were so many people that small dents were left on the stone steps.
What did the wooden outbuilding look like before? There had lived homeless parishioners. They usually used the library, read shabby books, and sat on old scratchy chairs. Their voices sounded on the church grounds, and the walls listened to them. They must have still remembered their stories.
Jungsu loved to examine and sniff everything inside, but after a while, it was getting boring.
Anyway, he wouldn’t find any answers. This church was already dead. Even though Jungsu knew some people who remembered how lively the church used to be, he started to forget their eyes.
And now there were just two of them. Jungsu and the person who killed this place.
Jungsu flicked his tail, saying goodbye to the books, and ran away from the small library. He ran up to the second floor. There was a room where his owner and he lived. Just a few weeks ago, Jungsu hated the word “owner,” but now… every cat should have an owner, right? He could call him “owner” while he was a cat.
And he didn’t even have to call him by his name.
Jungsu was already tired of looking for freedom. But did he need it?
When he was close to his owner’s room, he perked up his ears. His owner was already finishing his meal.
“Jungsu! My sweetheart,” the owner smiled when he saw Jungsu. He looked scary. His face was blood-stained. He asked, “Wanna have some rest?”
Jungsu responded with a meow and quickly hid under the heavy blanket when his owner’s hand rose up to snap his fingers.
“Why don’t you ever wait until I’ll hide?” Jungsu asked grumpily and stuck his head out from under the blanket. He always was naked when he turned into a human, and Gunil always tried to see his body. But every time, Jungsu was able to hide in time.
“Just hope you won’t hide one day,” Gunil said and arched his eyebrow. He continued to eat, and Jungsu turned to the other side to avoid seeing it. It was disgusting. The demon ate raw meat. Warm blood dripped to the floor. Jungsu saw this little girl, her arms hugging him, her smile was so bright when she came into the church, and now Gunil just ate her. “Wanna eat?”
“I hate raw meat,” Jungsu said and closed his eyes, trying to breathe deeply. The weather was so hot today, but he couldn’t even bare his shoulders. His pride wouldn’t let him show his skin. “Cook some normal food.”
Jungsu wanted to sleep, his tongue didn’t move so the words were so illegible. A few times, he fell asleep on the porch of the church, and every time someone went past the church, he woke up startled. Now he wanted to sleep in peace. Ideal, without smells of blood and death in the stuffy room.
“Wanna have a date in a restaurant?” Gunil asked happily. He stood up and quickly walked over to Jungsu. The floorboard creaked under his weight when he sat down next to Jungsu. The smell of blood could no longer be ignored. Jungsu felt like throwing up, but Gunil didn’t care about it at all. He bent and planted a firm kiss on his cheek. “I’m sorry, kitty, I don’t have money.”
“So earn some,” Jungsu winced and tried to wipe a blood mark off his cheek. Gunil was like a drunk woman whose lipstick printed everywhere. “It’s not that hard, is it? It’s for your kitty.”
“Of course, it’s not,” Gunil purred even though he wasn’t a cat. Oh, how he loved when Jungsu called himself his kitty!
He stood up and ran off with heavy footsteps. Jungsu was even a little afraid. What if the demon was going to kill someone right now? Just because Jungsu asked about it.
He looked around the room and grimaced. The mauled dead body still lay on the table in the puddle of blood. If Gunil forgot about it, Jungsu would be so angry. He hated blood. Gunil knew it, and he always cleaned the room himself.
But deep inside, Jungsu even found it a little pleasant. The demon was ready to carry out Jungsu’s request right away, but if he didn’t clean the room, Jungsu wouldn’t be able to sleep. Even though he really wanted to sleep after a day under the hot sun.
The sound of fast footsteps was heard again, and after a few seconds, Gunil sat down next to Jungsu. This time his lips and hands were clean. He kissed Jungsu again and patted his head, running fingers through his hair. Despite his body type, he got so soft when he touched his kitty.
“I’ll try hard,” he said. Jungsu couldn’t hold back a smile. “But you will help me, okay? Could you catch someone rich?”
“You said you will try hard,” snorted Jungsu and pulled the blanket up to his ears. He felt dizzy when he inhaled the smell of dust instead of death.
“It will be so dangerous if I search for money by myself,” Gunil said and fell silent in thought. Maybe he didn’t even want to talk anymore, but Jungsu didn’t wait. He was slowly drifting off to sleep and wasn’t sure if Gunil’s last phrase was real. “But if you ask… I’ll dare.”
