“This is so stupid.”
Diamond didn’t look up from where he was messing with the speakers. Lighter stood, leaning against the hotel roof's railings, a grumpy expression on his face. Raising an eyebrow, he responded, “Then leave? I’m not forcing you to be here.”
The other made, of course, no move to leave, instead watching the shorter as he messed with the settings, then his phone.
“You literally need me to be here.”
“You’re acting like this is something I have to do,” Diamond pointed out, turning to look at the other, “or like you didn’t freely agree to be here. In fact, we can both simply leave right now and never talk about this again. It’s your choice.”
They stared at each other for a few moments. Lighter, once again, made no move to leave, instead breaking eye contact as Diamond started to smirk.
Leaning further back, he instead looked up at the sky. The blue hour was nearing its end, a few stars already visible up above, the sky a deep cool colour.
He shivered involuntarily.
Why did he agree, anyway? Lighter had to admit that he had a certain fondness for the remaining “rich bastard” in front of him, but that was all that was, wasn’t it? Fondness, nothing more.
He exhaled roughly. “Just hurry up man.”
The card only replied with a pleasant hum.
It didn’t take much longer, before Diamond was finally able to connect his phone to the speaker setup. Opening his music app, a song started to play.
And for Lighter, it felt like a flip had switched. Maybe it was the music, maybe the bright light of the rooftop lamps contrasting the darkening sky, but as the other stood before him, Diamond looked…
“You’re gorgeous” he blurted out, entirely and utterly ungraceful. A strong ugly blush spread across his face before his brain was even able to catch up to what just happened.
Diamond was understandably surprised. To be honest, the only real reason he had invited Lighter up was, even if it was kind of silly, to teach the jock a few dance moves.
To have an excuse to make fun of his gracelessness, of course. No other reason.
(What he didn’t know was that he was blushing as well.)
Regaining his footing, he simply smirked teasingly. “How flattering. Well, I guess you don’t look too bad yourself~”
Ignoring the taller’s spluttering, he continued, “Anyway, we don’t have all night. Come here, we’ll start with the basics.”
He beckoned Lighter to come to him, taking his hands. But the moment he did his confidence faltered.
Now that their fingers were intertwined, he became excruciatingly aware of two things.
One, that he was probably more touch-starved than he had realized, if the way the contact felt like fire licking across his skin was anything to go by.
And two, that despite that he didn’t want to let go. Lighter’s hands were rough and calloused and fit so so perfectly into his own softer ones. As if that’s how they were meant to be.
He stood there, frozen for a few moments. Lighter, of course, took that mistake to tip the scales in his favor. Diamond let out a rather embarrassing squeak as he was suddenly pulled forward, his spiraling thoughts fading as the hands he was holding let go to instead wrap around his body, the taller now looming over him. His grin was somewhere between mocking and teasing; either way it made Diamond’s knees feel weak.
Then it faded into something a lot softer. Lighter looked into his eyes, their faces closer than ever before.
“Oh… you are the most beautiful man I have ever seen.”
And that was it. Nothing Diamond could possibly do or say, would ever triumph over Lighter’s impossibly soft confession. Not when the words made his heart pound in his chest, butterflies threatening to burst free. He tried to respond some way, any way, but instead just let out some choked mumbling as he pressed his face into the other's chest in utter and absolute embarrassment.
His next actual words came out muffled.
“You… look beautiful too.”
He felt, rather than heard, the taller’s soft laughter, before he felt one of his hands being taken again and a featherlight touch being pressed against it. Now, he had no confirmation that that actually was what he thought it was. He still let out a high pitched sound either way, of course, but whether Lighter had actually kissed his hand or not would remain a mystery for now as the other pulled away to grab Diamond’s other hand.
“Well, we are here for a reason, aren’t we?” His face had once again turned into a teasing smile. “And as you have already said, we don’t have all night, do we?”
He wished they had. Theoretically, Diamond would’ve given anything if it meant that he could spend the night with Lighter. But realistically, he knew he was too much of a coward for that. So instead he straightened himself, guiding Lighter into a starting position, even though his hands were shaking.
It was fine, he could do this.
“Of course, let’s- let’s start!”
