Chapter Text
All of the death eaters, including Luca, were waiting in the meeting room for Voldemort to make his appearance and speak about the attack on Hogwarts that they’d been planning for months.
Luca wasn’t interested at all; she hated everything about the dark side, what they do and how they brainwash their kids.
It was sickening.
Her head was spinning with thoughts while staring at his empty seat.
Is this going to be the last meeting? I hope he keeps his promise. I don’t know how much longer I could last for.
The door suddenly opened and Nagini slid in, her owner following behind shortly.
“Mhhhh. This is good-“ he started, staring into Luca’s brown eyes
“-now that we are all here, let’s start with the reports from Hogwarts; Severus.”
She zoned out once he started talking to Severus, already knowing what had happened and what was already going to happen. She couldn’t handle it. She didn’t want to. She just wished she had never fallen in love with him.
Her mind started to drift away again, thinking about the life she could’ve had if she had just kept to herself, or if he had ignored her advances, like he’d done to every girl before her.
“-ca! Luca..!” A voice whisper-called out to her. She slowly looked around and noticed Narccissa nudging her because it was almost her turn to give the report.
Much like Serverus, Luca had close connections with Hogwarts, she was a Grifindor but an all rounder as a teacher. She was loved throughout all the houses and knew that in a few days, her betrayal would cut deep to all students. This was all part of his plan, from the very beginning.
“Now Luca, you know the important role you play in all of this. You know that you need to see this to the end. “ she gave a curt nod and basically repeated what Severus had said but in more detail, giving the current situation in Hogwarts, with Harry Potters’ disappearance.
The meeting came to a slow end and Luca walked out with Narccissa by her side.
There was an unspoken rule between the two, especially because Luca was the youngest. Narccissa and most of the others had vowed to protect her after they found out why Voldemort wanted to use her in the first place. Even though they had sworn their loyalty to him, they still had morals like other people.
“‘Cissa….” Luca let out in barely a whisper, her body silently shaking.
“C-cissa… is this t-the last time we are going to see each other..? I c-can’t do this anymore.”
A small sob escaped her lips as she tightly clung onto Narccissa’s robes.
The older woman’s eyes softened and gripped onto the younger. She felt so bad, the dark side wasn’t for everyone. Even though it is true that your core can change due to your circumstances, after everything Luca had been through, her core hadn’t darkened once. Everyone knows that a strong light wizard or witch would be a stronger dark witch or wizard which is why Voldemort had tortured her for years on end.
Narccissa didn’t know how to comfort her with words so they just sat in silence, enjoying each other’s comforting company.

Two days after the last meeting, the death eaters were getting ready to storm Hogwarts. The day before, Dumbledore and Severus had been killed which had affected Luca in more ways than one. She knew that Severus was double crossing Voldemort for the sake of the students. They all knew he was going to die, Luca just didn’t expect it to hit so hard.
The whole school was gloomy; Dumbledore, the most powerful wizard, ended by a mere teacher.
Tensions were at its peak and no one could trust anyone but, they all still trusted Luca. When the golden trio returned to school from their journey, the fight hadn’t started yet but they were all prepared for it.
Luca was standing by professor Mcgonagal, looking uneasy and jittery. Noticing her nervousness, Mcgonagal put a reassuring hand on her shoulder, not helping one bit as she knew the fight would commence at any moment and she would be outed as a traitor.
. . .
The battle had started and Luca was still following Voldemort's orders— “Attack from Hogwarts side until I make my appearance”
Like a good girl , as he liked to call her, she listened and kept on defending her students, while simultaneously leading most of them to their demise. She hated it, she hated her life and she wanted a way out, knowing how she’ll eventually get out. And once she had made up her mind, she would stop at nothing to achieve it, even if it meant killing herself in front of everyone.
Once they had made it outside, Voldemort had apparated to the court yard with Dumbledore’s wand. Once she had seen him and they locked eyes, he motioned for her to move over to his side, Luca started to move but then Harry disrupted her movement and he and Voldemort started flying around the courtyard and around the campus.
She was busy watching it unfold in disbelief, not knowing that one of the death eaters was aiming for a large group of students that Mcgonagal was protecting. When she noticed, her heartbeat quickened, wondering if this would be her final sacrifice.
As Harry and Voldemort made it back to the ground, Luca started running towards Mcgonagal and jumped in front of them, protecting them from the curse.
The crowd gasped and screamed, and then it was silent.
People couldn’t believe that Luca had let the curse hit her and had sacrificed herself instead of deflecting it. Tears and sobs had left many of the students and teachers.
Voldemort had let out a laugh before levitating her body towards him and the death eaters, ignoring the protests from the other side.
Muttering a quick spell in parseltongue, Voldemort had woken her up and healed her before the poison from the curse could spread to her brain, ultimately causing her death.
He picked her up and whispered in her ear. “Don’t think I’d let you leave me so soon, bunny. ” He taunted her with a nasty cackle as she let out a scared shiver, still yet to process that she had just faced near death
He then let out an even louder laugh before forcefully turning her body around to face her students and coworkers, lifting up her left arm, and muttering a counter charm to reveal her death mark.
Once again, everyone in the courtyard had let out shouts in disbelief, confusion and anger. No one wanted to believe that their beloved professor was a death eater, they couldn’t handle another death and betrayal after Professor Snape and Dumbledore.
Luca’s body froze as she felt his wand on her neck, her eyes frantically wandering to each of her students and colleagues, shaking her head ‘no’, while letting tears trickle down her pale skin. Voldemort then put his sickly hand on her chin, squeezing her cheeks and forcing her head to the side so her eyes could meet his.
Voldemort let out a shudder for a second, as her eyes resembled that of a fearless phœnix before softening in fear and turning into that of a scared bunny. He relished in the fear she felt. A powerful witch who doesn’t know her potential is scared of him and under his control. He loved it, and that feeling alone made him feel unstoppable— even more than he already did.
The students of Hogwarts were distraught to see Luca taking the disrespect and being a ‘death eater’, Harry especially.
She had been with Harry when everyone was making fun of him during the TriWizard tournament, or when the dementors had been tormenting him in his sleep– or even when he wanted closure about his parents and what they were like, she was there for all of it. It felt like a piece of him had shattered once again. He couldn’t handle another loss after Sirius, his mind couldn’t take it. Was this real? He couldn’t believe it— he didn’t want to. It couldn’t be true and even if it was, he refused to believe Voldemort.
“PROFESSOR, HE’S LYING ISN’T HE? IT ISN’T TRUE!!! IT CAN’T BE. YOU’RE NOT A DEATH EATER! I DON’T BELIEVE HIM OR THAT MARK. STOP LYING AND COME BACK!!!” Harry had desperately shouted, he needed it to be false, for his sake, the sake of the other students, for Luca’s.
“Look at this Luca,-“ he said while twirling a strand of her hair and inhaling her intoxicating scent “-they all think you’re so innocent. Why don’t you tell them mhhh? Tell them how eager you were to join me back then, Bunny . How you complied with every command and instruction I had given you. TELL THEM! You did this to yourself. Now you have to live with it. It’s your fault . All of this is because of you.” He pushed her to the ground forcefully, not caring about her at all.
Luca’s hand immediately flew to her face, trying to reduce the pain she was feeling. She couldn’t say anything or form any coherent thoughts as her body was shaking so violently. She was angry. Angrier than she had even been and she started to see red. The death eaters around her felt her anger but brushed it off. What could she do to their ‘Lord Voldemort?’
Luca stood up, and just in time too. She had seen Voldemort getting ready to shoot the killing curse at Harry.
‘No. I promised them. I promised all of them. I promised myself. I-i have to end this now.’
Once those thoughts had registered in her mind, she aparated in front of him just in time for the curse to hit her body. She dropped to the ground with a limp thud while Voldemort let out an angry yell. Her actions elicited more gasps and cries from the Hogwart students. They couldn’t believe this was real– no one could, not even Voldemort.
“STUPID LUCA. SACRIFICING HERSELF FOR A BUNCH OF KIDS WHO ARE GOING TO LOSE THEIR LIVES ANYWAY. “
“Say that again, Voldemort” Harry growled in a slow, dangerous tone. “I dare you.” he gave a menacing look to Voldemort. “I knew luca wasn’t a real death eater, she could never be a cold blooded killer like you and your followers. She is– she was better than that, better than you ” Harry’s words slipped out like venom that seethed through Voldemort, it enraged him.
Some students went to pick up her body, in case Voldemort decided to try and do something to her lifeless figure again. They couldn't believe how easy it was for Voldemort to get rid of her, none of them could, especially not Narcissa. The woman had practically raised her once she had run away from home when she decided to bear the dark mark on her arm. Narcissa’s eyes glossed over as she stood stark still, eyeing the lifeless body of what she had grown to love and know as her ‘younger sister’. Once they had moved her battered body out of the way to safety, Harry shot the killing curse at Voldemort, only for it to be deflected.

Luca’s lifeless body was displayed in a clear case, (much like how it was at Albus’ funeral) all the bruises on her body were still very visible and raw, reminding everyone at the funeral what her last few moments were like. They had covered up her death mark with a cloth, not wanting to be reminded of her ‘possible’ betrayal.
Tears were shed, voices were heard but there was still some underlying tension that wouldn’t go away. No one wanted to say it but they all wished she would have died without them knowing about the mark. It was selfish, sure, but it would save them from doubting their relationship with one of the closest teachers and mentors they’d ever had.
