When Katsuki had agreed to adopt a heteromorph kid that Tokoyami grew fond of after rescuing from a tsunami, he hadn’t expected to be the kid’s favorite parent.
She looked like a small Tokoyami with a crow’s head, but a more orange than yellow beak. They didn’t actually know how old she was, no one had claimed to be her parents nor could she be identified by any of the twelve government departments they had contacted.
And since they were heroes, the adoption process was streamlined. Though they did get a little resistance at first since Katsuki wasn’t a heteromorph, he made sure they knew exactly what he thought of that.
Their best guess was around six. She could mostly speak in full sentences and do most things for herself. She had this brazen sense of independence and wasn’t afraid to try everything.
Except for when she was sick. It seemed like when even common colds hit her, they hit hard. And Katsuki being the favorite, he often had to be the one to stay home with her.
Though he hated missing a day of work… He was kinda fine with this arrangement. Of course, taking care of a sniffly, sick kid was gross but he didn’t mind making her chicken soup (but had to be very careful not to reveal that chicken is a bird. They already went through one temper tantrum when they gave her duck for the first time) and reading her books aloud to her.
He didn’t even mind snuggling up on the couch with her and watching cartoons. The new ones weren’t anything like he remembered, but she enjoyed them, so he watched them with her for hours until it was time to put her back in bed or attempt to give her a bath.
No… Katsuki never expected anything like this. But it was okay. Because seeing the look on Tokoyami’s face whenever he came home to see Katsuki cooking dinner and their little girl watching him chop vegetables or make rice… that made everything worth it.
All of this was worth it, regardless of the inevitable fever Katsuki would catch from her.
After all, she did promise when she grew up she’d be a doctor and take care of everyone who was sick, too. And especially her Papa Katsuki and Papa Fumikage.
And Katsuki couldn’t wait for that future to come.
