Hot and Breeze

Summary:

After patrol, a first-year came to them beaten up. Everyone is obviously not pleased. But as soon as they heard the gang leader's name, something snapped inside Suo.

Work Text:

Suo is always the calm one.

He's more rational, mature, and calm than Sakura is. That is why, to know when someone truly pulls his string is when Suo no longer holds the facade. That’s where the roll switch.

“Suo.”

“Yes.”

“Listen.”

“I am.”

“You’re not.”

“I can answer pretty well.”

“Then stop walking.”

Stops his track abruptly and Sakura follows. Eyes determine with his fist clenched, and Sakura can see Suo’s eyes really well. The singular eye inflicts nothing but dull and rage.

Sakura walks so he’s beside Suo now, they’re on a spacewalk, pretty far from school and far from main street. The sun’s coming down, signaling it’s no longer their patrol hour but to be frank, it’s not even their territory anymore.

They’re supposed to go home after hearing reports from the other team. That’s how it’s supposed to go. Sakura even said they’ll take care of it later. But no, when the beaten up first-year gave his report, Suo snapped. Not as any regular person would, but how Suo would snap like when they raid KEEL.

Maybe not as reckless as back then, Suo actually calmed down the first-year and told him to clean up. Sakura gives points for that, but he should’ve known that’s the eye of the hurricane before another one struck.

Suo’s eye is dull. It always is when he’s putting down the ‘gentlemen’ facade. And Sakura’s eyes are stone-hard, not leaving Suo’s. “This is what you call for a walk?” Sakura said.

“Well, I like exploring.”

“Don’t give me that crap.” Sakura bite, “you’re goin’ to their base, aren’t ya?”

Suo’s hands are on his back. Stoic and poise as ever, but an underlying murder attempt follows. “It’s that clear, isn’t it?”

“Aren’t you pissed, Sakura-kun?” Suo speaks so slowly, he walks closer towards Sakura, towering the heterocromia. This pissed Sakura off. Even though he’s grown, Suo is still taller than him. “They’ve hurt our underclassmen. And our team to be exact.”

Yes, Sakura is pissed. The old him would just go alone like how Suo is doing right now. But Sakura knows better now. He can go alone or fight together. And if Suo wants to beat them to a pulp then Sakura would be honored to take a piece of the action. What Sakura doesn’t understand right now is the fit that Suo is throwing.

“Don’t be ridiculous, I’m as pissed as you are,” Suo titled his head and Sakura comply, “I just don’t get what got you so worked up.”

A breeze swayed Suo’s hair, revealing the eyepatch and his singular eye. Still dull.

“My, my, are you taking an interest in me right now, Sakura-kun? How honored I am.” Suo joked with his usual gentleman smile that he gave every time he teases Sakura. Sakura’s breath in annoyance with red already swarming his face. “Jerk, I’m serious!”

Suo laughed, amused, and actually a genuine reaction Sakura had seen since they left their territory.

 “Hey, Sakura-kun.”

They locked their eyes and a shine glimmered through Suo’s red blooded eye.

“I will tell you, but you gotta go on a date with me.”

Is this Suo’s idea of a date? Because if it is, then Sakura can rub it on Nirei’s face so that maybe Sakura  knows more about dating stuff. Sure it’ll be such a template date, going to movies, amusement park, restaurant, yada yada yada, like those dates in movies and mangas he’s read but really. That’s all better than going to a gang base and challenging them into a brawl, right?

Because seriously, forget about the mental breakdown Sakura had to go through after Suo asked him for a….. date …. to tell whatever is bothering the eyepatch right now. Because really! Sakura’s punching right and left, defending his stance, even kicking a baseball bat away because this gang is a pussy, but this is not a date! This is their regular daily routine!!

“DIE, YOU FREAK!”

Sakura turned back immediately but was beated when the man is slumped on the ground after Suo kicked him first. Suo’s tassel blew tangled, brushing it gently to place, his eye went dull again, unamused. “Such a creative insult, but you can do better than that, right?”

“Get them!!”

ten-twenty men start rushing to see who can they beat first, unbeknownst that a bet between the couple who can get the most punch is in place.

Suo and Sakura are back-to-back, each in their own fighting stance and Sakura actually smirks. “I’m betting I get the most kills here.”

Suo smiles, “Glad you’re enjoying yourself, Sakura-kun.”

Some date this is.

Sakura throws another guy away and shields himself from a punch. He throws countless hit to one man and stops, the man who has an X form looks through and is caught by surprise when Sakura starts running and jumps off from his formed hand. In the process, Sakura kicked two men and the man from before who had rushed towards him now is lying on the ground after Sakura had hit him in the stomach.

Sakura looks around, and finds the leader of the gang hiding away in the back. Disgusting.

“Suo!”

Suo had been preoccupied but looked up and spotted where Sakura is looking.

“Bring ‘em at me!” Sakura yells.

Suo smiles knowingly, “How kind.”

They won, obviously. If they didn’t, Sakura would be ashamed to even call himself as part of the Bofurin.

The gang’s leader is lying unconscious. Suo is kneeling near him and rip a fabric from the gang’s jacket that the leader is wearing.

The fabric is in the color red, like Suo’s eye. And Sakura finds that unsettling, weirded out even. Suo’s eye color is beautiful. So to have the same color as a symbol of this gang’s identity is…. ugh.

“Hm, I guess not all of us matured.” Suo says as he looks at the gang leader’s face.

Sakura raises an eyebrow. “You know him?”

Suo could only smile. “My sensei was pretty picky on choosing his students.”

Sakura’s eyes widened. Suo was never one to talk about his past. So to hear a piece of it was—

“We trained together until we’re not.” Suo said nonchalantly.

Sakura annoyed, “ When exactly?”

Suo thinks for a while and says as he stands up and walks beside Sakura as they’re on their way leaving. “Maybe around the start of middle school? I haven’t been in-contact with him since then so I never thought this is how our paths would collide again.”

Suo walks with his hands on his back as usual and Sakura walks beside him. Sakura’s not one to pry on something so when Suo doesn’t continue talking about it he leave it at that.

Sakura sighs, “I’ll report this to Kaji tomorrow. I’ll take responsibility, as the grade captain and all…” Sakura ends the last sentence with a blush.

Suo was taken aback and chuckled. “My, my, how thoughtful of my grade captain.” Suo said in a teasing manner.

Sakura blushes even more, “I’m serious, jerk! If i hadn’t convinced Nirei to cover for us we’d get an ear–”

“But we were on a date though?”

“Huh?”

Something short-circuited in Sakura. It’ll take a while.

“We were on a date outside of town and so happened to run into trouble. Obviously not because we wanted to avenge our precious underclassman but we so happened to run into them. How unlucky of us, right?”

Suo said it so casually. Fabricated it so nicely. He really do have a shitty personality. Sakura called it.

“Tch, you really do have a shitty personality.” Sakura starts and walks with his hands in his pocket and walks grumpily ahead of Suo.

The latter chuckles and catches on, slowly snaking his hand to Sakura’s out of the pocket. Caught by surprise, something held Sakura’s breath when Suo said. “Sorry, but I really do like you, Sakura-kun. Would you like to go on a real date with me next time?”
