Kakashi's Downfall

Summary:

I stared at Kakashi, he looked beaten and broken, but he was still standing, facing off against a man with a mustache, “You aren’t going to get me that easy.” He growled, his mask was torn down the left side, his eyes blazed with fury, the mustached man chuckled, “Don’t worry, I’m just short on cash and you have a high pay out for your capture.” He snarled, that’s when I noticed a guy coming up behind Kakashi, he had a syringe in his right hand and was going for Kakashi’s neck, I opened my mouth and yelled a warning, completely forgetting he can’t see me.

The man stabbed the needle into Kakashi’s neck, Kakashi lashed out and kicked the man back, but it was too late, the plunger had already been pressed, and the unknown substance had been injected. Kakashi growled and then his eyes got foggy, he started wobbling, “You jerks.” He muttered before pitching forward.

Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Iruka POV

Chapter Text

Iruka’s POV

My name is Iruka Umino, I am a spy for the Hidden leaf’s, I’m a low-level spy, I just do paperwork, but I love my job. Especially the part where I get missions updates from the field agents, I like hearing about their work and talking to them, but my favourite agent comes late at night, Kakashi Hatake, he’s tall with spiked silver hair, he wears a mask over the bottom half of his face all the time, but he’s always happy to see me, no matter how tired he looks, his dark eyes light up when he walks into the agency. Kakashi has many admirers, they talk about him all the time, but he pays them no mind, he’s the best agent here.

The thing about Kakashi though, is he is never around, he runs missions most the time and when he’s back no one knows where he is, I think that’s why he wears the mask, so no one knows who he is without it, I sometimes wonder if his silver hair is actually his hair.

Tonight was like no other, we were getting to the time of night that Kakashi would be coming back to file his report, I kept glancing at the clock, nobody else came in this late, so I was really just waiting for him to come back, that’s when the door opened and in stumbled Kakashi, he was bleeding from his left arm and I could see pain in his brows, I stood up and hopped over my desk rushing to his side, “Kakashi-San, are you ok? What happened?” I asked as I put his arm over my shoulder and wrapped my arm around his waist to help support him. “I’m alright, just a nasty fight at the end there. I won though.” He chuckled as I helped him over to one of the chairs, he winced as I set him down.

“I’m going to get a nurse, give me one second.” I said grabbing the phone from the desk, after I called a nurse to come check on Kakashi, I turned my attention back to him, he had stripped off his vest and his shirt was being pulled over his head, he gasped as he got it off and quickly grabbed his arm to put pressure back onto his wound. I pulled my attention to his arm, that was what I should be paying attention to, I went over to his side and reached out my hand, before I put my hand on him though, he pulled back and gasped. “Sorry.” I said as he looked at me with alarm in his eyes. He nodded, then closed his eyes and I watched over him until the nurse got here.

Kakashi sat still as she took a look at his arm, she wrapped it up and talked to him for a bit, I watched her as she obviously flirted with him, be professional, Kakashi looked over at me after awhile and I understood, “Thank you for looking over him, he does have to file his report and then he can go home and rest.” I stated, making no room for argument, I saw relief flit through Kakashi’s eyes, “Ah, yes, thank you Anko-nin.” Kakashi said standing up and pulling his shirt back on, he followed me back to my desk, and Anko, she left with a huff. “Thank you, Iruka-Sensei.” Kakashi said, I smiled and sat back down at my desk, “I don’t actually need you to file your report right this minute, you can file it later if you just want to get some rest. Don’t tell the other agents, I’m known for being strict about timelines.” I chuckled scratching at my scar on the bridge of my nose.

Kakashi watched me for a second, but not my eyes, he was watching my hand as I brought it to my face, “Nah, I’ll do it now, I don’t mind hanging out with you longer.” He said a slight pink colouring his face and tips of his ears, I smiled. Oh, now that’s interesting.

After he filed his paperwork, he gave me a wave and smile, then left. I packed up my things and then headed home myself, I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about Kakashi and his smile, even if it was covered with a mask, I always wanted to see that smile.

“Hello Chief, what did you want to speak to me about?” I asked Chief Tsunade, “Hello Iruka-Sensei, I need you to actually go on a field mission as back up, but the agent you will be backing up doesn’t know you will be there, and it needs to stay that way.” She said, “I’m sorry, but me? A field mission? I’ve never done that before.” I said, I was nervous, I haven’t been out there, yes, I had the training but that is in a controlled environment.

“I know you are nervous Iruka, but I think you would be a good fit and if he finds out you are with him, he might not try to lose you.” She said, I arched an eyebrow, “Wait, who would I be following?” I asked, Tsunade sighed, “Kakashi has been getting a lot of people targeting him, his next mission is set to start in a couple days, and I don’t want him out there alone, so, we are going to cloak you and have you stick with him.” She said, I opened my mouth to respond but she held up a hand, “I have talked to him about taking a partner with him and he refused, said he works alone. So, this was my best idea, he seems to like you and since you are a lower lever, and he knows that, he won’t abandon you if he discovers you.” She said. I nodded, it made sense, but I didn’t like this. I headed to the lab, how was I going to do this, Kakashi was the best agent here and I was, well, me, a desk agent that didn’t even know if I could keep up with him. “Hello Iruka, you ready for you first mission!?” Came an excited shot! I smiled, “Hello Naruto, I will give it my best shot, is Genma here?” I asked as Naruto pulled his goggles off his eyes, “Yea, he’s getting your gear ready!” Naruto said, I smiled and ruffled the kids hair, “Great, any idea how I’m not going to be detected by the best Agent?” I asked, “You’re going to be invisible.” Said Genma as he came out around a shelf, he was wiping his hands off with a cloth, “I’ve been working on a serum. It will make you invisible, it’s not perfect, so it still wears off, so you will have to take it every 4 hours.” He said putting the cloth down on a table and picking up a vile. I gulped, I trusted Genma, but this was feeling too real. “You’ll do great Iruka!” Naruto beamed, I really hoped Naruto was right.

I packed up some items and put them in my backpack, I poured a little bit of the vile over the bag and watched as it vanished from sight, then with a sigh, I took a small swig and waited, I watched myself in the mirror as I slowed disappeared from before my eyes! But, once I was gone from the mirror, I could see my backpack again, so this solution showed me other things that were also invisible. I sighed, time to go to the agency and wait for Kakashi to show up.

Chapter Text

Kakashi’s POV

I pulled my mask up, and pulled my vest on, time to go on the next mission, I was worried Tsunade was going to pair me up on a team, but it looks like she had left it alone. Good, I didn’t want to have to lose a fellow Agent.

That’s when I heard it, right when I walked into the agency, I could hear someone behind me, I turned my head to the side, I didn’t see anyone, but I could hear them, hmm, strange. I went over to the mission desk, let’s just get my mission and see what happens.

The mission was simple, I just had to watch a target, I was told not to approach the target as he was dangerous, yeah ok, whatever, I read over the file I was given, Akagi Yamoto, this guy was known for catching high level agents and selling them off to people that wanted them, kind of like a bounty hunter, all for money. I just needed to see who he was targeting next. His hair was thin, and he had a small mustache he was a lean man but built in a way that he could take people down, he apparently tended to use drugs to drug his targets and take them away.
I headed towards the exit, I had my mission, now lets just get it over with, it’s just a follow and find out case, it shouldn’t take me long. Then I could go and file my report and talk to Iruka some more, maybe work up enough courage to ask him out. HA! Probably not…..

As I left and headed out towards where this guy was last seen, I still felt that presence with me, this was strange, was I being followed? I glanced behind me again, still there was no one, so, the way this was feeling, someone was following me, but they weren’t very good at following people, but I couldn’t see them. This is weird…..

I finally found my target, but I was worried, with my shadow following me and they weren’t the best at following, I hoped that they wouldn’t blow my cover. As I watched Akagi opened his notebook and looked it over, I inched over and tried to peak into his book, but he closed it before I could see it. Dang it. I thought I was going to be done that fast!
I continued following him, my shadow kept up with me, I noticed they were slower than me, but they kept up pretty good. What is this, a babysitter? Not very good at not being spotted, if I wasn’t busy on
following Akagi then I would confront my shadow.

Akagi stopped again, causing me to pause in a tree, he sat down on a bench and waited, I stayed up in my tree, watching and waiting, who he’s waiting for was the question. We waited there for about an hour, the sun was setting and it was getting harder to see, still Akagi stayed on that bench, maybe I could sneak up and slip his notebook out of his pocket, I knew where he had put it, I’m pretty good at pickpocketing.

I slipped out of the tree and crouched low, I didn’t hear my shadow follow me, good, they can watch from back there. As I got closer, Akagi’s eyes stayed looking down the road ahead of him, I knew I wasn’t supposed to approach him, but as long as he didn’t see me and I got away with this, it should be fine.

Once I got close enough, I slipped my hand into his pocket and grabbed the notebook, then slowly slipped it out of his pocket, then I quickly got back up into the tree, phew, got away with it. Once I was safely up in the tree, I opened the notebook, what I found sent a chill down my spine, Kakashi Hatake, my picture looked back at me, but what was worse, this picture was of me without my mask! They new who I was, there was no hiding. I felt my shadow get closer to me; I could tell they were looking at what I had in my hands.

I now knew who his next target was, but now I just need to get back and away from this guy before he figured out I was near him, half of me just wanted to take him out, I glanced towards my shadow, I don’t know who my shadow is, but they weren’t going to stop me from dealing with Akagi now. I put the notebook down on the tree, then dropped down and made myself known.
“Yo! Looking for me?” I called, Akagi looked over, he looked surprised for a second then a slimy smile crossed his features, “Well hello Kakashi, I was just going to start looking for you once I was done here.” He said, I growled, “I’m not going to let you take me down. Bring it on!

I didn’t know how this guy fought, but I knew how I did, and based on my build, I think I have a fighting chance, I squared my shoulders and brought my feet to match my shoulders in width then I raised my fists, here we go.

I didn’t know if he was going to start this fight, but I wanted to start this and get it over with, I stepped forward and threw my first fist towards Akagi’s face! He ducked and grabbed my arm, then twisted his body and threw me over his shoulder, I went with the roll and landed back on my feet, then kicked out and hit him in the back of the knees. He stumbled away from me and almost fell on his face, but he caught himself and turned back towards me.

“You little brat.” Akagi snarled as he flew back towards me! I tried to duck but I wasn’t fast enough, he hit me in the nose, and I heard a crunch, that wasn’t going to be good. Akagi reared back and went to punch me in the face again, but I dodged back out of reach. I could feel blood seeping into my mask, I wiped the back of my hand under my nose, trying to see how bad it was, blood was on my hand, and I knew I didn’t have time to deal with it.

I glared back up at Akagi, he was pulling a knife out of his pocket, great, I should have thought about this before I charged in, too late now. Akagi rushed at me, knife raised and eyes blazing, “Now to finish this fight!” He snarled. As he got closer, I could see some sort of green liquid on the knife, it was drugged with something! I jumped back but not as fast as I wanted to, it cut my mask and torn it down my let side.

This just got more dangerous.

Iruka POV

What do I do? Kakashi has just passed out and there are now two guys! I’m not prepared for this, why did he need to attack, he was told not to approach, now he’s out and two people are picking him up and were taking him somewhere! Do I go back, do I follow? What do I do?!

They took Kakashi and pulled him over to a waiting van, they tossed him into the back and started climbing in, I panicked and quickly hopped down onto the van, I made a thump noise as I landed, but from the sounds of it, no one was coming to look, they were too focused on getting away.

I held on as they started driving, it’s hard to hold onto a moving van while they are going 40MPH, I don’t know if I was ready for whatever we were being taken to, but I don’t want to leave him alone. I reached into my pocket, I should have a communicator in here, they gave me one just in case I needed back up, or my cover was blown.
I pulled it out and hit the call button, it rang and then the van hit a bump! No! I reached out as the communicator flew out of my hand! As it flew down the road, I felt my heart drop to my toes. Dang it!
Now what? I just dropped the only thing I had to get help! The van lurched and I almost fell off, these guys need to learn how to drive! I felt my heart jump back into my throat, I took a deep breathe, follow your training, time to just follow and hope someone will come find us.

After an hour or so on this van, the sun had now fully set and it was hard to see anything around us, I had no idea where we were anymore. I just hoped I could get us out of here. The van came to a stop, I double checked my hand to make sure I was still hidden, sure enough, at some point it had wore off, so I quickly pulled my backpack off, got the vile out and poured some on the backpack and drank some, then put my backpack on and waited.

The Mustache guy got out of the van, then went out to the back of the van, he opened the door and pulled Kakashi out, Kakashi was still knocked out, he was dead weight, “Ugh! Keiji, come give me a hand with this guy!” Mustache yelled, Keiji, the guy that had drugged Kakashi, got out of the driver’s seat, and headed to the back.
It took both of them to get Kakashi up and towards a nearby building, I started following them, I took in the building ahead of us, it wasn’t big, it looked like it only had 1 main room and maybe a small bathroom, I soon realized I couldn’t open the door once I got there, so I would have to squeeze in after them, I put on a burst of speed, just as they went through the door, I slipped in behind them.
Once we were inside, I was able to get a look around, there was only one room, no bathroom, nothing else. I looked back at Keiji and Mustache, they were pulling Kakashi over to a chair, it was the only Furniture in the room, there was one window that was boarded up and a single lamp hanging from the ceiling.

I watched as they pulled Kakashi up and put him in the chair, they tied his hands to the back of the chair and his feet to the leg’s, he was still unconscious, so his head was lulled forward. Mustache grabbed a handful of Kakashi’s hair and pulled so he was looking up, then he pulled Kakashi’s mask down, “There we go, now smile for the picture.” He leered, that’s when he moved out of the way, he still held Kakashi’s face up as Keiji took a picture. I felt sick, should I attack? Do I wait? I don’t know!

I needed to get us out of here, but I needed to wait for Kakashi to wake up, I wouldn’t be able to do this without him, I wanted to stop this now, man did I wont to, but I needed to be able to get Kakashi out too, which meant he needed to be awake to help me, I wouldn’t be able to drag him out of here after fighting two guys, one I knew had a knife and the other had who knows how many drugs on him.

Chapter Text

My head hurt, I started opening my eyes and was hit by a bright light, I shut my eyes against the world, why was it so bright? I slowly started opening one eye first, just to get my bearings. My headache flared as I looked around, I was lying on a white cot, there were two other cots in the room, the walls, ceiling, and floor were also white, that’s why it was so bright.
As I continued to look around, I decided to open my other eye, there were no windows, but there was a door, I stood up and nearly fell over, the world spun faster then I could recover, I plopped back down onto the cot, ok, let’s wait a minute.

Once I was more confidant in my ability to stand, I pushed myself up again, the world was still fuzzy, but I was able to keep my balance. I headed towards the door, I needed to figure out where I was, and if I could get out of here!
Once I reached the door, I put my ear up to it, I couldn’t hear anything on the other side, but this door looked heavy duty, there was a small window, probably about 6 by 12 inches, like any standard fire door.

I looked out to see one big area, the lights were off, but it wasn’t too dark, So, I could still see a kid’s play area in the middle of the room, it had a big playground themed after a tree in the middle and walls that were all painted with fun colours and murals of animals.

This was strange, why was I here? What happened? I went back to the cot and sat down, I couldn’t remember how I got here. I closed my eyes and focused, I remembered being sent on a mission to follow someone, who was it? Right! Akagi! He was looking for someone, who? Me! He was looking for me and I fought him! I must have lost….. WAIT! My Shadow! Where was my Shadow? Were they ok? They hadn’t been good at following me, but hopefully they got away. I let out a breath and went to the door again. Let’s see if I can get out.

I put my hand on the doorknob and turned, it was locked, of course, I shouldn’t be surprised. I looked around the door, maybe I could break this open? I didn’t want to make any loud noise, that’s when I heard a click, I jumped back away from the door, I had a chance, I could rush them when they opened the door, I didn’t have any weapons, but I can still put up a good fight.
But the door didn’t open, I crept over to the door, staying low to the ground in case I still needed to fight. I reached for the doorknob again, then slowly turned it, it was unlocked! I slowly opened a crack and peaked out, I couldn’t see anything, but I could feel someone there! “Shadow?” I whispered.

I felt my shadow move to the side so I could leave the room, I stayed low as I crept forward, we needed to get out of here, my shadow stayed with me, I needed to get them out of here.
As we went, I could still feel shadow nearby, they were getting better at sneaking and staying quiet, so hopefully we didn’t get caught. I stayed to the side of the room, the room was in the shape of an octagon, there were seven other doors besides mine, all were open except 1. As I crept around, I peaked into the rooms, they all looked just like mine, but these were all empty. At first, I thought they were uninhabited, but I noticed quickly that people lived in these, there were backpacks and toys around, laptops, books, clothing, etc.

Every room was like that, how long have these other people been here? And where were they now? I looked over my shoulder at the playground, were they children? The books and clothing I saw around didn’t seem child sized.

That’s when all the lights came on! There wasn’t anywhere to hide, I squared my shoulders and got ready for a fight! Then, the one door that had been closed, opened and people came walking in, chatting to each other, it looked like they were just having a casual stroll around, why weren’t they ready for a fight?
“Ugh!” came a sigh. “You’re awake, you are going to have questions, what a drag.” I flinched as a teenager walked up to me, “Calm down Dude, I’m not a threat, trust me, you’re going to want to settle in.” He said, he kept his distance as he talked, he was probably around 17 years old with long, black, hair pulled up into a ponytail. “My name is Shikamaru, if you have questions, ask away.” He said as he sat down 6 feet away.

I had so many questions, but I didn’t trust this kid. Shikamaru seemed to sense that, “Alright, well, I’m 3 doors down from your room if you get any.” He said with a sigh, he stood up and stretched, then headed to his room. “Make sure you are in your room by lights out.” He called as he walked away. I glanced over at the door that had opened, it had closed again…. “Shikamaru!” I called standing up and following him, he turned and looked at me bored, “Yea?” He drawled, “Why were you guys out of this room?” I asked, “Oh, we were at dinner, we get brought out 4 times a day, 1 for each meal and the 4th for exercise.” Shikamaru sighed, “Not all of us use it for exercise, I just end up enjoying an outside nap.” He yawned, “Anyway, I’ll talk to you later, I’m going to go nap before lights out.”

I watched him go, then looked back at the closed door, that would be my escape, but I would have to wait till breakfast now. I also had no idea what was out there. I headed back towards my room; I needed them to think I was cooperating. When I got back to my room, I held the door open long enough for my shadow to follow me in, then I shut the door. Maybe I could talk to them and find out if they could help me out.

Notes:

Wow! What is going on? Will the shadow talk? Will Shikamaru ever get enough rest?
Stay tuned!!

Chapter Text

Iruka POV

I watched Kakashi as he paced, he looked different in the casual grey sweatpants and black tank top that he had been put in, they also had taken his mask away, so I could see his face for once. I didn’t want to look, I was invisible, and he didn’t get the choice to show people.

I went over to the bed and pulled the pillowcase off the pillow, then ripped it, then closed my eyes and turned towards where Kakashi had been. “What’s this for? Oh! My mask is off. Thank you.” He said as he took it from me. I kept my eyes closed till he said, “Alright, I’m good now. Thank you, Shadow.”

I opened my eyes and watched Kakashi, he had gone back to pacing, but at least Kakashi looked more comfortable with his mask back on. “Alright Shadow, any ideas where we are? Also, are you going to talk to me?” He asked, l didn’t know what to say, should I blow my cover? I didn’t want him to get mad at it being me….

He was going to find out anyway, I didn’t have a lot of this invisibility potion left, this mission wasn’t supposed to take too long. “Hello Kakashi, I don’t really know where we are, some sort of facility, it looked like a hospital from the outside.” I started, Kakashi just stared at where I was standing.

“When they brought you in, we went through a series of security, kind of like at an airport, Luckily, they couldn’t sense me with all their checking. I did have to dump my backpack as to not have anything go off as I went through, but I was able to keep my invisibility potion. Anyway, there was a series of hallways, I could see more rooms like this one, the big main room with more doors. Then there was a cafeteria and an outside area with exercise equipment.” I finished, Kakashi was still just staring at me.

“Iruka? Is that you?” Kakashi whispered, he stepped closer to where I was, he lifted his hand towards me, “Where are you?” He asked, still quiet. “I’m right here.” I said reaching out my hand and poking his palm. Before I could pull my finger away, Kakashi grabbed it and pulled so he now held my hand. “Iruka, you’re here, You’re the one that’s been following me.” He sighed, “How long are you going to be invisible?”

“It should be wearing off soon, I have one more dose after this one.” I said, “Did you want me to save the last dose?” I asked, he was a higher level then me, so I now would listen to him. “Yea, save it for when we need it, Tomorrow we are going to try to get out of here. Then you use it. No offense but I can sneak better then you.” Kakashi said.
I knew he was right, but Kakashi is the one they wanted, “But you are the one they want, shouldn’t you be invisible?” I asked, Kakashi sighed, “Yea, but I don’t want you getting hurt.” Oh! Was that a bit of pink coming up from under his homemade mask? NOT THE TIME IRUKA! Sheesh……

I sighed, I don’t know if I would be able to talk him out of this, I’ll work on it tomorrow. Kakashi still hadn’t let go of my hand, “Come, sit.” He said pulling me over to the cot. “Why did Tsunade send you? No offense, but she could’ve sent someone that’s been out on the field.” Kakashi asked.

“She said something about how you wouldn’t abandon me, because I’m inexperienced.” I said picking at my scar. Kakashi watched me, “Oh, well, that’s a good point, I guess.” He said, he glanced down and saw our hands, His eyes widened and quickly pulled his hand away, pink dusting his cheeks above the pillowcase. “We should get some rest before tomorrow.” He said, as he turned to face away from me, “I don’t know if I have roommates or not, but hopefully, they won’t realize you aren’t supposed to be here.”

Kakashi pulled the blanket off one of the other cots, “Kakashi! What about if you do have a roommate, aren’t they going to want that blanket?” I asked as I watched him make a bed on the floor. “Sucks to be them, I’m not sleeping on the floor with nothing, maybe they will complain and then I can steel their bed.” He said winking at me. I shook my head, “Only you would annoy someone enough to get what you want.” I sighed, “Wait! What do you mean, you are sleeping on the floor?!” I bellowed, Kakashi flinched at my raised voice, “Well, I’m not letting you sleep on the floor, with all the missions I have gone on? I can sleep anywhere.” Kakashi said, then he grinned “Although, if you want to share the bed, I wouldn’t complain.”

I felt my face heat up, “Ah, I mean…” I stuttered, I really didn’t want to sleep on the bed, when I was the lower level, really Kakashi should be on the bed, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to change his mind. Still worth a try. I’m not going to give in without a fight.

“Kakashi, you really should sleep on the bed, I wasn’t supposed to be here, and if they come to check on you, they will expect you in the bed.” I said, Kakashi sighed and rubbed his chin, “You have a good point, guess we will have to share.” He said standing up, he tossed the blanket at the other cot and walked towards me! “Woah! Wait, I shouldn’t be in bed with you, what if they show up to check on you and see me too?” I said, my face was really hot now, I was lucky I was invisible. “It’s nice to be able to see you again Iruka, Red is a nice colour on you.” Kakashi smiled, Shoot! I glanced at my hands, sure enough, I was visible again.

Kakashi smiled as he realized I had noticed my predicament, “No use fighting this Iruka, I’m not letting you sleep on the floor, and hey, if I don’t have roommates, then we get another cot, so, it might just be for one night.” He said, still walking closer to me. he stopped right in front of me, he was about 6 inches from my face. “Now, are you going to be good and get in bed?” He asked, my face hadn’t started cooling off, but his comment wasn’t going to help me.

I quickly turned away from him, I needed to stop looking at him. I headed to the bed, “Are you sure?” I asked, I could heart the grin on Kakashi’s face as he spoke, “Yep, quite sure.” I nodded then climbed onto the cot, I made my way as close to the wall as I could go so Kakashi had space, I kept my back to him. Kakashi Chuckled, then climbed in behind me. “Goodnight Iruka, try to relax, or it will be a long night.” He whispered, I could feel his breath on my neck, I nodded not trusting my voice.

Then the lights went out. “Goodnight Kakashi.”

When I woke up, I noticed two things, one, it was bright, the lights had been turned on and the white room didn’t help. The second thing I noticed was something warm was pressed up against me and wait…. Was that an arm resting on my side?
I was still facing the wall, but, Kakashi had an arm draped over me and his face was pressed into my back, probably trying to block out the light. Oh gosh, how was I going to get out of this without Kakashi noticing…..

I didn’t get the choice, as I heard Kakashi groan, “Ugh, why is it so bright?” He asked, his voice groggy with sleep, he tightened his grip around my waist and nuzzled his face into my back more. I didn’t move, but I could feel my face begin to flare up, “Jeez Iruka, loosen up, you are so stiff.” Kakashi sighed and rolled out of bed, “For what it’s worth, there wasn’t anyone else in this room last night. So, if we must stay another night you won’t have to share a bed with me.” He said as he moved around the room.

I didn’t know what to say to that, but did Kakashi sound a bit disappointed? I got out of bed and stretched, “Well, you wanted to try to escape today, right?” I asked, Kakashi was watching me as I stretched, I couldn’t read his face. “Yes, I think for breakfast we look around and then at lunch we make a break for it.” He said pulling his eyes back up to meet mine. “Should I be invisible for breakfast? The potion normally lasts for about 4 hours.” I said, Kakashi rubbed his chin, “Good question, I think having you invisible would be nice during breakfast because you could look around without being suspicious. But I don’t want you to become visible when we are trying to escape.” He sighed and sat down on the cot again, “Let me think about it.”

He sat silently for a while, as I waited for him, I continued to stretch, it had been a long night on a small bed, especially with two people on it. Kakashi glanced up and watched me for a while, “Want to join? It’s good for your mental health.” I said, Kakashi chuckled, “Maybe another time.” He said, “I think we wait to make you invisible when we go to escape.” He stood up and walked towards the open door. “Let’s go wait for breakfast.”

Kakashi and I went out into the main room, no one batted an eye at me, good, I didn’t need the extra attention, a younger guy sauntered over towards us, his hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and he looked bored. “Hey, how did you sleep?” He asked looking at Kakashi, Kakashi shrugged, “As best as I could.” He said, then Ponytail turned to me, “I don’t think we met yesterday, I’m Shikamaru.” He said holding out his hand, I smiled and shook his hand, “I’m Iruka, nice to meet you.” I said, Kakashi glanced between us, then turned his bored eyes back on Shikamaru, I could tell he was about to say something, but then the main door opened.

“Alright hooligans, time for breakfast!” Yelled a guard, he was in a black uniform with a bulletproof vest on, there was a knife on his left thigh and a gun at the right hip. He held a baton; behind him we could see more guards nearby. Kakashi turned to me, “Alright, let’s look around while we are out.” He said, I nodded, “Alright, hopefully we can find something without being too suspicious.” I answered.
We were led out of the room and down a series of hallways, Kakashi glanced around, like I had said, there were white walls and corridors leading off in many directions, more rooms branched off the hallways into similar rooms that we were in. We passed by an office, there were computers where they watched the cameras, we didn’t get a long look, but I covered Kakashi for a bit as I pretended to tie
my shoe. He was able to get a quick look.

“Alright, I was able to get a quick look.” Kakashi said in a whisper, “There are cameras facing the playground in our room, and I’m assuming the other rooms as well, I didn’t see any cameras in the bedrooms, but I couldn’t see all the monitors. There are a couple in the cafeteria and the outside area as well. I might be able to find them given time.” He said, I nodded, “I’ll try to give you cover.”

Chapter Text

Iruka and I followed the group as we headed to the cafeteria, Iruka looked nervous, I understood, he hadn’t been caught, so technically he wasn’t supposed to be here. “Don’t worry, I doubt anyone will realize you aren’t supposed to be here Iruka.” I whispered trying to calm him down, he nodded in response.

Once we were in the cafeteria, I scanned my surroundings, all the walls were like in our room, manly white with murals of animals painted on them, there were three rows of tables as well, about six in each row, they reached from wall to wall. On the far wall was a glass display with the kitchen behind. There were staff floating around in the kitchen and guards along the walls.
I watched as the rest of the group lined up by the glass to get their lunches. They each grabbed a tray and started down the line. Iruka poked me, “We are getting weird looks, we should head along with the others.” He whispered, I nodded then followed Iruka towards the line.

Once we got our lunch, didn’t look very appetising, but it was green, and that’s normally a healthy colour. Shikamaru was sitting at one of the long tables, so we joined him. There were two other people sitting nearby that seemed to be friends with Shikamaru, “Hello, I’m Iruka and this is Kakashi.” Iruka introduced as he held out his hand, this guy was too friendly and trusting, but I guess we need information.

The girl on Shikamaru’s right grabbed Iruka’s hand, “Hey, I’m Ino and this pig is Choji.” She said gabbing a thumb towards the guy on Shikamaru’s left. Choji was stuffing his face with the green goop that was apparently lunch.

“You guys are quite young, how long have you been here?” Iruka asked, Ino sighed, “I don’t know, you lose track of time. But you’ll get used to it, if you value your sanity, I suggest you don’t try to fight or escape. No one has succeeded.” Ino answered.

I sighed, I don’t think these kids are going to be much help to us. But Iruka seemed happy to talk to them, I’ll leave it to him then. I picked up my tray and his, then headed towards the drop off area for the trays, while I was up, I hoped to scout out the area.

I walked slowly and glanced around the best I could, I didn’t want to look like I was trying to escape, I took note of the four cameras around the room, there was one door that brought us in here and only small windows by the ceiling.

There were 2 guards by the door, same outfits as the guy that brought us here, still with a gun and baton. I could probably take two, but there were guards all other this room and I couldn’t take them all. Maybe we should regroup.

I sighed and headed back to Iruka at the table, the others were cleaning up after breakfast and started lining up by the door. Iruka smiled and got up, “We should go line up.” He said, I nodded and followed him.

We lined up and followed the guard back to our rooms, there were so many guards around, even during the movement from room to room, I don’t think we could slip away. Iruka might be able to with his invisibility, but I don’t know if I could. Still, probably the best time to try though.

Once we were back in our room, I pulled Iruka back into our separate room, “Alright, I looked around a bit, we won’t have a chance when we are in lunch, but maybe traveling back to our room, then we might have a chance.” I said, Iruka sat down on the cot, “Hmm, that does make sense, it would be easiest to slip away from the group.” He said, “Next question, what about the kids? We need to get them out of here too.” Iruka said, I nodded, “I know, but we will have to come back for them. It’s easiest for us to get out of here first.” I said going and sitting down next to Iruka, I put my hand on top of his, “I promise we will come back for them.” I said running my thumb over his knuckle.

Iruka nodded, he was looking down, I knew this was hard on him, “Let’s make a plan.” I said still holding his hand. Iruka nodded again, then with his other hand he wiped his eyes, had he been crying? I shook my head, “So, we plan to slip away while we are headed back here, less chance of them noticing.” I started, “I think you should drink the potion during lunch, right before we line up, hopefully they don’t count heads. I didn’t see them doing it last time.” Iruka nodded, “Alright, sounds like a plan.” He muttered.

I knew Iruka was upset, he didn’t want to leave the kids, but it would be for our benefit to leave them behind. We would have to tell the Agency when we got back and they will send agents to shut this place down, if they don’t move them before we could.

I watched Iruka, he was still looking down at his hands, I still held his one hand, I didn’t want to let it go, I don’t know if this was even comforting him. I didn’t really get comfort as a kid, so giving it was hard. But he wasn’t pushing me away.

We sat there in silence, will, mostly, Iruka was sniffing, I’m hoping I’m helping somewhat, but at least he wasn’t crying hard if at all. I started rubbing my thumb over hiss knuckles, trying to show I was here, and that we would work together.

I opened my mouth to say something, I wasn’t sure what, but I was going to try, but I didn’t get the chance. Shikamaru popped his head in, “Hey, they’re coming through the rooms to check in on people, hide the drugs.” He chuckled as he left, Iruka looked up in alarm, “They’re going to know you don’t have a roommate! What do we do? They’re going to question me!” He whisper yelled, I nodded, “Yes, I don’t know how hard they look around the room, Maybe drink the potion now. We are going to try to escape now.” I said, Iruka looked alarmed! “How are we going to get out? They are going to be watching that door!” I nodded, “I knew, just trust me and follow me closely.” I said. Iruka nodded and pulled the vile out of his pocket. “OK, I trust you.” He said taking a drink.

Chapter Text

Iruka POV

I didn’t like this one bit! We had to play this by ear now. I had drunk the potion, so I must be invisible now, I looked over at Kakashi, he nodded, “You’re invisible.” He answered my unasked question. Kakashi gave a small smile, I could only tell from the curve of his eyes. “We will be ok.” He whispered, “Ok.” I whispered.

That’s when one of the guards came into the room, He held a clipboard and was focused on it. “Hatake Kakashi, age 26, brought in a couple days ago.” He said, “How are you settling in?” Kakashi glared, “Where am I?” He growled, the guard gave him a ruthless smile, “Ah, wouldn’t you like to know. I see you have made yourself a mask.” He looked back down at his clipboard and wrote something down.
“Alright, well, you seem as stubborn as always.” He said, “I’ll be back after I check on everyone else.” He said leaving the room. Kakashi scowled, “Ugh, I wonder what that means. Let’s not wait around to see.” He said before peaking out the door, “There’re two guards at the door, and five going around the room. If we time this right, I can duck into the playground then out. But Iruka, I need you to get the guards away from the door.” He said, I gulped, “I’ll try my best.” I answered, Kakashi nodded, “Thank you, Let’s go.” He said, then ducked out of the room.
I followed, at first, I crouched down and tried not to be spotted, then I realized that I just needed to be quiet. I was already hidden. I headed towards the door, how was I going to get them away from it? Maybe if I made a big enough distraction? How could I do that? I would need big enough that all the guards in this room would go to it.

I looked around, there wasn’t much in the room, but the big playground in the middle. I went back to Kakashi and crouched down next to him. “I need to make a distraction for you, and my best bet is to do something big enough to pull all the guards away. I need to use the playground. Which means, you can’t be hiding in it.” I said, Kakashi nodded, “Alright, I’ll take cover in one of the rooms by the
door.” He said, then slipped away.

I circled the playground, I needed to find a way to make a mess, back when I was a kid, I was a big prankster, maybe there was something around here that I could make a commotion with. I smiled to
myself and started checking the other rooms. I pulled a bobby pin out of my hair and looked around for some screws, once I located some that would be holding up the majority of the structure, I used the side of my pin as a screwdriver and got to work.

I needed to work fast, which meant I needed to focus on the least amount of screws with the most amount of damage. I worked as fast as I could, and got a good amount done as they were still going through the rooms. This should be enough now, I looked over at Kakashi, he was still there, waiting and keeping an eye on the playground.

I looked around and made sure everything was undone that needed to be, then I pushed on one of the outer pillars, then watched as the playground started falling down domino style!
I grinned as I slipped away, the two guards at the door moved towards the center, not too far from the door, but enough for Kakashi to slip behind them, he then worked on the door. The rest of the guards that were around the room came over to the playground, one hit a button on his belt and all the separate rooms closed. Good thing Kakashi slipped out when he did.

I hurried over to Kakashi, I stayed low and as quiet as I could, but the room was loud with the Guards yelling. Kakashi opened the door a crack and let me slip in, I touched his arm on the way, so he knew I was there, then he followed me. The door slid shut behind us.

Kakashi stayed low as he crept forward, we didn’t know how many guards would be coming towards all the commotion, Kakashi quickly slipped into a side room, just in case guards were coming our way. We waited a minute, nobody seemed to be coming, I followed him as we headed down the hall. “Any idea the way out?” Kakashi whispered, “No, I ended up all turned around when we came in, all the halls look the same.” I whispered.

Kakashi nodded, “Alright, follow me.” He whispered as he turned down the hall towards the cafeteria. He slowed down as we approached the camera room, “Maybe there’s a map in here, or the door is on the camera. Good thinking Kakashi!” I whispered, Kakashi wasn’t looking at me, but I saw the tip of his ears turn red.

“Iruka, I want you to go in there and see if you can see a map or something to tell us how to get out of here.” Kakashi whispered, “Ok.” I said as I slipped by him. Once I was in the room, I took note of the number of guards, there were four in the room, two were at the monitors and the other two were at the back at the room getting coffee, there was a little kitchenette.

I continued looking around, I needed to find a map or something to get us out of here. I couldn’t find a map, so I turned my attention onto the monitors, maybe I will be able to see the exit? As I scanned, I heard the guards talking, “Did they ever figure out what happened with that playground?” One said, “Yea, looks like someone unscrewed it, they are doing a headcount of that room, hopefully nobody got out.” The other answered, that’s not good. They were bond to notice Kakashi was gone!

I slipped out of the room after looking at the monitors for awhile, “I didn’t see a map and there is a camera on the exit door, but it doesn’t tell me where it is. I don’t know how to get us there, and they found out the playground was unscrewed, and they are doing a headcount. They’re going to notice you aren’t there.” I whispered once I was back out in the hall next to Kakashi.
Kakashi nodded, “Great, we need to get moving.” He said, “I say we head….“ He was cut off by all the lights turning red and a siren going off. “ATTENTION ALL GUARDS, KAKASHI HATAKE HAS ESCAPED, I NEED EVERY GUARD LOOKING FOR HIM. BRING HIM BACK NOW!” Said a gruff voice over a loudspeaker.

Chapter Text

Kakashi POV

Shoot! This wasn’t good, I was hoping to have a better plan, or even just know how to get out of here before they discovered I was gone. “Alright, time to move.” I said, hoping Iruka would follow me.
I quickly made my way down the hall, at this point, if I was spotted, we were going to have to run. As we moved forward, I could hear footsteps as guards ran around looking for me. “Iruka, we should split up, you can look around better then I can, see if you can find the exit.” I whispered, “Ok.” Iruka responded, “Stay out of trouble.”

I heard Iruka leave, I knew this was a good idea, let him look around and my job was to not get caught, but I already missed his presence. I shook my head; I had to keep moving or I’m going to get caught. I could just find a hiding spot, but I felt like I had to do something. Might as well look for the exit as well.
As I crept around, I peaked around corners, there were guards everywhere! I’m a pretty good spy, but I was starting to wonder if I would get out of here without being seen. Hopefully, if Iruka found the exit, he would leave me and go get help. I doubted that….

I peaked around another corner, more guards, but there was only two down here, I could take them out and take their gear, maybe I could go undercover? “Hey! There he is!” Someone yelled behind me. shoot! I glanced behind me; two guards had turned down the hall and the two around the corner had turned around too. Four against 1, not good odds. So, I ran!
I tore around the corner and rushed by the two guards that had just turned, the one seemed young, so when I rushed, he faltered and stepped back, I used that to my advantage and rushed past him as his buddy tried to grab at me. He grabbed my sleeve but didn’t get a good grip, so he soon lost me.

I ran around the next corner and saw even more guards! “Oh, come on.” I muttered, these two seemed ready for me and now I had four guards behind me. I had no other choice, I ran towards them again, I hoped one of these guards faltered and I could use that again. But I didn’t get a chance, I heard something crackling before I was hit in the back, I fell to the floor, electricity shooting through my body, I held in my scream out of sheer will, but I was no longer a threat. I saw the two guards move forward to stand in front of me. Then the world went black.

When I came to, I was in a different room, this one had one metal cot, it still had all white walls, I was alone and there was one door, it was again, like a fire door, but this one looked even thicker, no chance of getting out. It had a latch window and a dog door at the bottom to slide food in.

I heard a clank as the little latch window opened, “Hello Kakashi Hatake, good try, you almost made it.” I looked over at the door, there was a man standing there, Akagi. “Let me out of here! The agency knows I’m missing and are sending help! You won’t get away with this.” I growled, Akagi laughed, “Ah, I don’t care if they come or not, it will be to late for you.” He said, “You see, I didn’t capture you for information, I captured you to break you, I want to be the one that breaks the mighty spy, then when I’m done with you, I’ll hand you off to our buyer and let him do what he wants.” The loud clank of the latch closing ended our conversation.

Iruka POV

I found the way out!

I started heading back to where Kakashi had been, I assumed he had moved since I left him, but he shouldn’t be far, he knew I would come back for him, right?
As I came around the corner I heard someone yell, “Hey! There he is!” at the other end of the hall, there were two guards, one was pointing around the corner at I’m assuming Kakashi. I rushed forward; I needed to help him!

As I moved, the guards did too, they headed forward with tasers pulled, when I turned the corner, Kakashi was running down the hall, leaving two more guards in his wake, one was on the ground while the other one was helping him up. The guards I have been following kept following Kakashi down the hall.

I went after them; I wanted to be there if Kakashi needed my help. as we rounded another corner, I saw Kakashi had stopped up ahead, he was facing two more guards and now the knocked down guards had joined us, there were 6 guards and a Kakashi stuck in the middle.

I saw one of the guards point his taser at Kakashi’s back as Kakashi went to tackle one of the guards ahead of him. I opened my mouth to yell a warning, but I was too late. The taser launched and stuck into Kakashi’s back! Kakashi let out a yell and then crumpled to the ground.

I must have made a noise, because A couple of the guards turned towards where I was standing. I froze, I didn’t need to be seen, if I got caught, I really couldn’t help Kakashi. But wouldn’t you know, things were just not going my way either. “Hey, do you see that?” One of the guards said pointing at me, I glanced down, I was slowing becoming visible! Shoot! I quickly turned and ran!
