Chapter 1: Encore! Encore!

Chapter Text

On the planet's surface, the Doctor and Donna await for Ood Sigma. As Sigma walks up to them, the Doctor can finally tell them the good news.

“The message has gone out. That song resonated across the galaxies. Everyone heard it. Everyone knows. The rockets are bringing them back. The Ood are coming home.”

“We thank you, Doctor Donna, friends of Oodkind. And what of you now? Will you stay? There is room in the song for you.” Ood Sigma said, gesturing to the Doctor and Donna.

“Oh, I’ve, I’ve sort of got a song of my own, thanks.” The Doctor replied.

“I think your song…” Ood Sigma began to say but paused. They tilt their head towards the Doctor, seemingly acting confused.

“... Is there something on my face? Donna, is there something on my face?” The Doctor asked, looking towards Donna.

“You have dumbfoundedness all over your face, skinny man,” Donna replied, jokingly.

“No, hang on, this is serious…” The Doctor frowned, looking over to Ood Sigma.

Sigma tapped their translation sphere, the device itself seemingly malfunctioning.

“What I mean to say is that your song… looked like it was going to end, but it isn’t?” The device translated, somehow having a confused tone even though it wasn’t meant to inflict emotional tones to the phrases the Ood speaks.

“What?” The Doctor asked, already concerned.

“It seems like you’re having multiple encores. Too much encores. All for the sake of someone.” The Ood replied, bewildered.

“Huh…” The Doctor hums thoughtfully.  “That’s… a good thing? I suppose I think that’s a good thing. Is that a good thing, Donna?”

“Well if it means that we still go on, having adventures like this, spaceman… I wouldn’t deny an encore.” Donna says excitedly.

“Does this mean you don’t wanna go home yet?” The Doctor asked, hopefully.

“No, definitely not,” Donna replied.

“Then, we’ll be off, Ood Sigma.” The Doctor said to the confused ood.

Ood Sigma was silent for a bit but then said: “It’s probably nothing then. Take this song with you.”

The Doctor and Donna agreed to do so.

“And know this, Doctor Donna. You will never be forgotten. Our children will sing of the Doctor Donna, and our children’s children, and the wind and the ice and snow will carry your name forever.” Ood Sigma finally said.

The Doctor and Donna smile in return as they both head into the TARDIS. The Doctor approached the dematerialization lever and pulled it as he worked out the temporal stabilizers to keep the TARDIS in the time vortex for a bit to figure out their next destination. But after the day they had, it’s probably for the best that they take a break.

“Donna, I think it’s probably a good time to take a break, you can head to your quarters for now.” The Doctor suggests. “We can meet up for dinner I suppose.”

“Doctor?” Donna asked. “What did Ood Sigma mean that you’re having multiple encores? That implied that your… life will go on. What did he mean that it was supposed to end?”

The Doctor paused and looked over to Donna. Donna looks concerned for him…

“I think… Some things are better to be left alone. Knowing the end of it takes the fun out of it,” The Doctor said, smiling. “It’s best not to be concerned about it.”

Donna nods thoughtfully. “Well, I did say I won’t deny an encore.”

“That you did, now come on! Off to your quarters and change so we can have dinner.”

Donna leaves the Doctor alone in the console room as the Doctor looks at his console.

He hums thoughtfully. Well… If he’s keeping his face for a little longer then it should be fine for now. Still, if his song was going to end, that’s a bit ominous… Oh well. Better get something ready for dinner.
