Work Text:

Death. Such a small word for such an immense thing.

I find death beautiful. It's just so undoubtedly, simple. You. Just simply end. No fan fair no joy. Nothing, ever again. There is one simple reason I fear death. And it's not because I don’t want to die. Frankly, sometimes life just feels like it’s too much, and for a moment I slip. What would happen if I took this knife and plunged it into my heart? Could I, do it? To be honest I don’t think I could. It isn't because I want to figure it out. It's not because I want to die. I just simply don’t want to be. I just want to go into a calm dreamless sleep. Where I can escape once my problems are over. I fear death because of the uncertainty. What the hell happens? It's always something that has puzzled me deeply. Ever since I was around five, I would wager. Did I start questioning what would happen if I died? Because it was just such a paradox. If a god existed and an underworld took me, which one? How could I prepare? And if it was just silence. It was truly just the end. How would you know? Because the brain hangs on to the last moments of your life. Goes through everything. But what happens after? What happens when you just simply stop having energy? Because if you stop existing how would your brain capture that? How could you simply just not exist when imagining death nothing is impossible. Because how can you expect to embrace the empty space that is death? When you have witnessed the bounties and joy of life. I don’t think you can. And yet I know you must. Because everything must die. Even gods cannot hope to exist forever. Even. If you simply couldn’t die. After eternities drifting wouldn’t you long after the certainty of death? And wouldn't your mind just simply give up? So, death can be nothing and everything. Death can be sad and happy. Grieving and hopeful. Death, can be nothing- and yet it is everything.

Death. Such an immense word for such a small thing.
