Chapter Text

Everyone knows Simon. He has lived in Sprunki for a long time now, becoming the friendliest kid with endless amounts of game ideas. School for him was a breeze too, being the fastest runner made him excel in track & field, befriending anyone he happened to struck a conversation with, and his grades were pretty good which worked in his case for his path of becoming a dentist.

Even after graduating, he stayed in touch with everyone and decided to stay in Sprunki. It’s a simple town where everyone knows everyone but it’s still a town with much to do, he didn’t want to give this small town up when everyone and everything he loves is here. But even if he did leave it probably wouldn’t be that hard to make friends, as even in adulthood he was still his kind and friendly self to everyone, helping out those he does and does not know just because he wants to. Everything seems to be going just swell for him…

“So why are you so caught up in trying to befriend him?” Wenda annoyingly asked Simon. The dude is so determined, for as long as he can remember knowing him, to befriend Gray.

A guy who is the complete opposite of Simon, a guy who has been living in the same place at the same time, attended the same schools and everything, but everyone barely knows anything about him, let alone his name in general. Their usual response is “Gray? Don’t know who you’re talking about” and he looks like he’s fine with that, seeming to be having a coffee at the table across from the group Simon is with, just writing something in that book he’s always carrying.

Anytime someone asks if he wants to hang, he usually has an excuse to talk..er “buzz” his way out of it since he’s not big on using his actual voice.
“Come on Wenda, everyone deserves a friend!” Simon exclaimed.

“Everyone?” Raddy asks with a raised eyebrow.

“Well…no one should be alone, right?”

Oren placed a hand on Simon’s shoulder to reassure him, “Simon, some people just prefer to be alone. Gray is one of those people.”

Durple added on with his hand on the other shoulder, “yeah and by the way, haven’t we talked over this like a bazillion times by now? When are you gonna learn that this isn’t the life Gray wants?”

Simon huffed and stood up, getting Oren and Durple’s hands off him, “Well you can make it a bazillion and one but this time I’m doing it, I’m giving Gray what he deserves, a friend!”

Wenda and Raddy groaned in annoyance while Oren and Durple looked over at Simon in concern as the yellow creature tried hopping out of the table, almost tripping but quickly getting back on both his feet. He stood up straight, puffed his chest out and confidently marched on over to Gray. He was reaching over to take a sip of his coffee but noticed from the corner of his eye that Simon was cheerfully walking over to him.

Oh great..him again, he thought, this isn’t the first time Simon tried talking to him. There was times Simon would try to talk to Gray, asking how he was and what he’s doing and seeing if he wanted to hang, but Gray would always dismiss him. But this time Simon is going to try again.

“Hey Gray! How’s your day going? It’s a lovely sunny day today huh?”

Gray grumbled under his breath, “(Simon, come on, at this point you should know everything I say is an excuse out of your hang out offers, so don’t try anything)” he buzzed.

“I know but I still wanted to come by and say hi, I don’t like seeing you alone, yknow?”

“(I am doing just fine alone, ‘yknow.’ So there’s no need for your pity on me)”

“Pity? Gray no I really do mean-“

Gray shut his journal and gathered his things, standing straight up and looking Simon in the eyes, “(Simon, I know you’re trying to be nice and all but I really don’t want any of this, what you have, it’s not what I want so you can stop trying to ‘help’ me.”

He walked out the cafe a bit ticked off, leaving Simon standing in his place feeling a bit upset that he might’ve made Gray angry at him. Simon’s group of friends walked over to him, Raddy stood next to him giving a pat on his shoulder.

“Welp, you tried,” he said, “anyways the lady called our names so let’s just get our shakes and go, ay?”

Simon pouted, sticking a straw in his chocolate shake. “I just don’t understand what he means every time he says that I pity him or that ‘he knows what I’m trying to do..’”

Durple told him, “He probably thinks you’re making fun of him, trying to take advantage of his loneliness maybe.”

“But I’m not!”

“We know, but it’s probably just something he experienced before”

“I can see it,” Wenda snarked.

Durple scowled at her, “Wenda..!”

“What? It’s either that or he’s just an a-hole for no reason”

Durple rolled his eyes and looked back a Simon, “I know you won’t give up no matter what we say, Sy, but you gotta give the guy some space and understand him better, ‘kay?”

Simon nodded but he still had that guilty look on his face, feeling like he just embarrassed himself for another stupid attempt at befriending the only person he hasn’t yet, and he really wants to but maybe it’s time he thought of another way of doing it…
