Work Text:
Emma awoke from her sleep, startled at the fact someone suddenly knocked on her door at the very moment. Seriously, who in their right mind had the energy to wake somebody else up when the sun wasn’t even out yet? Begrudgingly, the gardener got up from her bed, ready to tell off whoever decided to mess with her before the time she usually woke up.
She reluctantly pushed open her door, expecting it to be Ganji playing a prank on her like he always did. Instead, a familiar red-headed girl was on the other side of the door. It was weird, typically the ginger would poke fun at her every time they came close, but somehow the girl had a resemblance to a grumpy cat that almost made Emma burst out laughing on the spot.
“You do realize I can see ya giggling right.” The cheerleader sulked.
“Sorry, it’s just that you look so…!—“
“Yeah, yeah I get it.” Lily interjected, “Look, I didn’t come here to apologize or whatever. It’s something personal…” She looked down at her feet, as if embarrassed to say the next few words. The cheerleader sucked in a breath before continuing, “I’ve… been having nightmares and I was wondering if I could sleep in your room just for tonight. N—Not like that I want to sleep with you or whatever!” Lily explained, her eyes looking everywhere but Emma’s.
The brunette contemplated for a moment, if she said yes she imagined what kind of tricks Lily would try to pull on her while she was asleep but at the same time it would be rude of her to decline her request. After all, the poor girl did say she was having nightmares. The gardener sighed, hoping she wouldn’t regret her decision.
“I suppose you can come in, but don’t try pulling pranks on me unless you want to end up on the hard cold floor outside.”
The red head perked up, “See I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist me! No one dares to anyway frankly because i’m simply just the best person roaming on this planet.”
Lily pushed past Emma quickly, ‘She would be cute if she wasn’t so full of herself.’ The brunette thought, softly closing the door.
“My bed isn’t really big for the both of us so I think one of us is going to have to..” Emma trails off, the sight in front of her was much to adorable for her to handle. The cheerleader was curled up on her bed, with the fluffy blanket atop of her Emma occasionally sleeps with. Her ginger locks were sprawled out on the pillow meanwhile she rubbed her cheek against the squishy mattress for warmth.
“What are you lookin’ at?” Lily grumbled, her pale cheeks starting to turn into a light shade of red. The brunette shook her head to snap out of her daze, “It’s nothing, let’s get some rest for our classes tomorrow.”
She climbed in her bed with hardly any space. As she was about to fall asleep she unexpectedly felt a pair of arms wrap around her torso. She didn’t think anything of it until she started hearing sniffles coming from the girl behind her.
Emma turned around, “Lily are you okay?” She asked, worriedly.
In the dark it was hard to tell if Lily was crying or not but by the way the girl responded was all she needed to hear. “‘m fine.. go—go back to sleep.”
“Lily, I am a very perceptive person, and I can tell you aren’t okay. What’s wrong?” The gardener asked once again, she raised her arm to caress the other girl’s cheek to help her calm down.
“It’s—It’s about my brother Simon. I’m still haunted by the fact I couldn’t do anything to help him in that horse riding incident. Maybe if I did something to prevent it he wouldn’t—“
“It isn’t your fault Lily, you were young at the time. I know you would do anything for your brother but you can’t just blame yourself for everything.” Emma cut in, she raised a finger to Lily’s lips to carry on with what she was saying, “Your a good sister, Simon is so grateful to have a sister like you.” Emma assured her, pulling in the cheerleader for a hug.
“Thank you Emma, really.” Lily murmured, her voice soft and gentle. She tightened her grasp around the brunette as the both of them fell asleep in each others arms.
