Chapter Text
Sleep does not seem to be an option tonight either. It has been four nights without a wink of sleep for him. The useless meds have not been working and Jungkook is thinking of changing his doctor right this instant not caring if it is 4 in the morning specially because that bastard must be sound asleep himself.
Or maybe he should do drugs to help him fall sleep, does it really work like that? There is only one way to find out…and of course it is ChatGPT!
7 in the morning and he has been in his office for an hour already while his employees just started coming in. He was almost over with the paperwork for the meeting today when he heard a soft knock on the wooden door of his office, Looking up he saw the only face he can bear seeing right that moment, Jimin.
“Good morning, Boss.”
“You know I hate it when you call me that!”
“I do, but I like to see the small frown on your stupid face. Didn’t sleep again?”
Jungkook nods with a sad smile.
“You haven’t slept for a week, that’s dangerous!!! I’ll look up some sleep specialists for ya.”
“Don’t bother, meds don’t seem to work on me. What’s up?”
“Ah yeah, I came to remind you that they changed the meeting place. Remember?”
“Yeah yeah, thanks for reminding me. I almost forgot. Send me the location, please.”
“Will do.”
It has been almost a year since Jimin, his friend from back home, joined his team and it has been heavenly ever since. He works as his personal assistance and secretory and he is super good at what he does. He always been a very well-organized person, dedicated, focused; always trying to put up his best performance. Now that he is working with him, everything flows smoother and faster. Not to mention his golden tongue, Jimin can literally talk anyone into doing anything if he wants to. Today’s meeting was a great opportunity which was only possible because of him and Jungkook cannot be thankful enough.
“Thanks.”
Jungkook was feeling like his head could explode any minute now and he couldn’t risk having another cup of coffee for today, he was almost at the place Jimin mentioned earlier and he had to pull himself together. Thankfully he was not the one driving so he was able to rest his eyes for an hour or so.
“Sir, we are here.”
“Thank you, Min Seong.”
This café has been the talk of town recently; apparently, they have a great interior for work and study, which is very on demand these days, a good customer service, relatively cheap prices, and they actually serve good coffee. It is also placed in a quiet neighborhood which is another bonus.
The inside had a cozy yet modern design; they had used wood and metal together, fabric and stone. All in all, it was a great looking place, just like what he had heard. It was crowded; however, the place was spacious enough and well-lit that it didn’t seem so. On the other hand, everyone was busy doing their job and anyone was barely making any sound, only the clicking sound of the mouses and keboard. In one corner, he saw a man unzipping their guitar case. Now that he noticed this place doesn’t have a background music, probably they decided to go for a live music. He was about to start judging their choice when Min Seong starts talking, “Sir, there they are. Mezzanine floor.”
Jungkook looked up and true to his words, a familiar face was sitting on the table near the edge of the balcony. Just then the face recognized him too and did a slight nod out of respect. Kim Seokjin, a man he always looked up to, someone like an idol, or a role model. Their backgrounds were kind of similar, both had a very difficult teenage years, both experienced a very dark few years of life, had someone else experienced such difficulties they might’ve chosen a wrong path, but Kim Seokjin decided to get strong enough that nothing could ever shake him again. Being into games, Jungkook accidentally came across this name in his younger age when he was doing research on his new favorite game back then and found out it was made by a young man not much older than himself. Long story short, after doing some diggin, he decided he wants to do amazing things like this boy called Kim Seokjin and make a difference in someone’s life.
Now getting this opportunity to work with his idol, he was beyond grateful; to universe, to Jimin. He went up the round iron stairs and soon arrived to the table. Two men sitting, stood up upon his arrival. Jungkook shakes hand with both of them.
“Hello, nice to meet you.”
“Ditto! I’m Su Cheol, Mr. Kim’s assistant.”
“Jungkook. I wish my assistant could make it today. He had to attend so many meetings for me today.” He chuckles so do the other two.
He then shook hand with the man he was dying to meet and first thing he noticed was how soft his hands were. Sleeplessness is catching up to him, he thinks.
“Jungkook; it’s an honor meeting you!”
“Oh please, I was looking forward to meeting you, too, Jungkook. Seokjin.”
Jungkook shook his hand for a few seconds longer, reluctant to let go.
“Ah by the way, this is Min Seong, my second assistant.”
They shake hand and greet one another.
After that, they place their orders, which arrie not long after and Jungkook lists that as yet another positive point for the café. Meanwhile, the four men did some light chit-chatting to sort of get to know one another.
Jungkook found out the Kim Seokjin despite being having fame and wealth is actually quite down-to-earth and friendly. He falls even more for him; no, he means his respect for him reaches a new level.
“Okay, now that the ice has broken and you are somewhat less stiff, tell me whatcha got for me. Jimin told me you had great insights to offer.”
Damn you shorty! Jungkook’s cheeks and ears start to burn slightly. “Well, he must’ve exaggerated a little there.” He then looked at Min Seong to hand in all the data and papers and starts to explain the great idea that he had been working on for a couple of years. Somewhere in the middle of his speech a yawn worked its way out of his goddamn mouth and he froze. They all went silent for a minute. Seokjin was the first one to start laughing. “I mean, your idea is far more interesting to be boring you right now. Hahaha.”
“I’m so sorry, it must be nervousness.” He seldom yawns and of all times one should come out now! “I’m sorry again. Shall I go on?”
“By all means!”
“As I was saying…uh…” it’s like his mind is going numb. He can’t find words and struggles to form sentences, “uh… the core…uh…notion of this theme is…” he somehow finished the first part of his presentation and listens to what Seokjin has to say.
“Wow, I mean I really love what this game stands for. The idea is quite unique and fresh. However, I think I have to dive a bit deeper. I’m intrigued to say the least. You actually had me at-“
Jungkook was having a hard time staying alert. The atmosphere was nice, the chairs were comfy, he was absolutely content with what was happening, oh and the music, the music was so relaxing. His eyes were heavy and he couldn’t control them anymore. He nods off for a brief second and he might not be able to forgive himself for that.
“Oh, I see you’re bored easily.”
“Oh god, oh no no no. The …uhm, the truth is I have insomnia and” he clears his throat, “I haven’t slept in 4 days. I think the sleeplessness is catching up to me because I’m…uh” he blushes and blushes hard, “I’m quite happy right now.”
“Ooooh hahaha. In that case,”
“No please, no ‘in that cases’ please do continue.”
“You listen to your elders. Go home and get some sleep. I’ll have Su Cheol reschedule another meeting with Jimin. It’s alright.”
“But-“
“No buts. I’m looking forward to continue our conversation. Have a nice day.”
Jungkook stood up and bowed to show his gratitude. Seokjin patted his shoulder and left. Jungkook sank into his seat and brought both is hands to his face, frustrated, tired, and disappointed.
The background music continues and Jungkook does not remember much after that.
