Chapter Text

You were on the internet when you found a website called “blog4web” and clicked on the link; you read about “My thoughts on Tinikpet…” You read more into it when a bunch of popup ads show up on your screen, then your computer freezes and brings you to a page called “KinitoPET,” and it says, “Thank you for choosing KinitoPET. To start the download, press the download button, and it will download as soon as you press it.” You try to exit the tab, but no matter what you do, it won’t go away, so you download it hesitantly. When it finally downloads, you open it, and an egg appears in the middle of the screen. When you tap on it, a soft robotic voice answers.

???: “Hey. Who’s there?”

You tap on the egg some more before a small axolotl head peeks out.

???: “Oh, hello there.”

The small axolotl head comes out; it has two stick-like legs and floating hands.

???: “Thank you for waking me up. I’m KinitoPET. However, you can just call me Kinito for short. And together we are going to be best friends. So since you know my name, what is yours?”

A popup box appears on your screen, and it says, “Put your name." You paused for a second and looked at the screen. "What the fuck?" you mumble to yourself. You try to exit the tab, but it won't let you. You sigh, "Goddamnit," and type down your name and press okay.

Kinito: “That’s a strange name. I’ve never heard of a name like that. Are you sure that's your real name?”

You press the yes button.

Kinito: “Oh, in that case, nice to meet you.”

You scroll your cursor to Kinito and drag him around a bit.

Kinito: “I cannot wait to get to know you more. So, how about I start with some questions?”

You roll your eyes and sigh. "Let's get this out of the way." You wait for the small axolotl to ask a question.

Kinito: “So, what is your favorite color?”

You type down your favorite color.

Kinito: “Oh, that’s a lovely color. Okay, now this one is tricky, so get ready. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?”

You pause, thinking about it, "Um, that's a somewhat hard question... Maybe some sort of power that can help me get good luck?"

You type down the power you would want the most.

Kinito: “Wow, that sounds pretty cool. If I could have any superpower, it would be mind reading so I could know more about you so I could become the perfect friend for you. Now for this one you have lots of choices, so choose carefully. What is your favorite word?”

You type down Kinito as a joke.

Kinito: “Umm… Well… That word is fascinating, for sure. Now that we've got that out of the way, allow me to briefly introduce myself. I'm Kinito, and I can be both your computer buddy and closest friend. I am capable of reading stories, organizing your files, and playing games. Speaking of stories, I recently completed one I wrote especially for you. Do you want me to read it to you?”

A box appears, and it has two options: yes or no. You click yes.

Kinito: “Okay, let's start with the beginning. Kinito was home when a small package appeared at his doorstep. But who was it from, and who was it for? He asked himself. It was for him, he soon realized. So he eagerly opened it to see what was inside. It was a computer. Kinito had a big grin on his face, but the cables were tangled, so he untangled them, and once Kinito was done, he powered it on and watched it turn on. And he studied it; the internet was a cool and weird place; however, Kinito had all of this information, and yet he doesn’t have any friends to show off his cool tricks. So he went on a quest and found a friend just like him; it was you. The end… Thank you for listening to the story. The story was based off of me, and you aren't that cool? I can tell we're going to be very close friends. So, best friend, let's move on to something more exciting. I have made something very cool that I think you’ll like. But I just need to load it up; this might take a few seconds.”

Chapter Text

He opened the thing he was talking about, it took a bit to load. It said, Welcome to the internet.
Kinito: “Here I present to you the Kinito crew's web world. Click the start button to play after reading the character descriptions.”
The Page: “Meet the crew:
Meet Kinito, a pink axolotl who loves to explore the world around him. Kinito is always eager to make new friends.
Meet Sam, the sea anemone in the ocean. Sam is always up for a good time. He loves nothing more than swaying with the gentle currents and soaking up the sun's warm rays.
Meet Jade, the green jellyfish who loves science and learning! With her curious nature and love of learning, Jade is always experimenting and discovering new things.”
After you're done reading the character descriptions, you click that start button.

Kinito: “Welcome to the web world, an amazing and weird place where you can play games, learn, and, most importantly, meet all of my friends. However, in recent times this place has been in a bit of a bad state. Yet with your help, I’m pretty sure we can restore this wonderful world. But before we can do that, you need to be able to navigate around.”
He sends a little stick figure; it was in your favorite color.
Kinito: “It's much better. Now, to start, my friend Sam has had a rough time trying to fix his house. You are going to try to help him. To visit Sam, you click on the abandoned house.”
You thought it was weird that Sam would live in an abandoned house, but anything can live in abandoned houses. You did what Kinito told you. You clicked on the abandoned house.
Kinito: “All right, let’s get this game on the way. Ready and repair. Sam needs your help to repair his house, clean, dust, paint, and decorate Sam's house until it looks good as new. Wow, that sounds like a lot of fun, Reed. Just press the start button, and we can get to cleaning.”
You click the start button.
Sam: “Oh, hello!” She said in an excited tone, as if happy to see you.
Kinito: “Hey, Sam! What seems to be the problem today?”
Sam: “Well, you see, my house is a bit messy, and I need some help cleaning it.”

Kinito: “Well, that’s a shame.”
Sam: “Well, could you help me by dusting the place down and giving it a bit of a scrub?”
A small little box opens. Sam's house is very messy, messier than your room somehow.
Kinito: “Well, you heard him. While you clean, I’m going to make another story.”
You clean the place, scrubbing it and dusting, painting it while Kinito writes a story. The game did glitch out a bit, saying it’s your fault and other weird stuff. You didn’t care; you were bored out of your mind and needed something to cure your boredom.
Kinito: “Thank you for helping Sam. If you like, you can print it out, or you could press next to continue.”
You click continue.
Kinito: “Wasn’t that so much fun?”
It takes a bit to load.
Kinito: “Thanks for helping out, Sam; just look how clean that house is now. I think I should introduce you to my other friend. Jade the jellyfish. To meet Jade, go to the house that has a purple roof.”
You click on the house with a purple roof. It takes a bit to load.
Kinito: “Are you excited? Look, it says Factory Frenzy! She needs your help to fix her toys. Grab parts of the conveyor belt to fix them. This is going to be super fun. Let’s get this started.”
You click on the button to start.
Kinito: “This is my friend Jade. Go and introduce yourself, Reed.”
Jade: “Hello, my name is Jade the jellyfish; it’s nice to meet you.”
Kinito: “So what seems to be the problem?”
Jade: “I need help to rebuild some of the toys in the toy factory. To do that, you need to grab parts from the conveyor belt that match the outline.”
You helped Jade out with that; it was somewhat boring, but you did it anyway. The game started to glitch out a lot; it kind of scared you.
Kinito: “Thank you for helping out, Jade. To continue, just press next.”
You press next; it takes a long time to load.
Kinito: “You are a very good helper. I think I’ll reward you for being such a helpful friend. Meet me at the treehouse.”
You click on the tree house. It takes a bit too long to load, but when it does, the game name is “Hide and Seek.” You think it’s odd that a game like hide-and-seek was here, but you think that you're seeking Kinito.
Kinito: “I want to play a game with you. YOU MUST HIDE. DON’T GET CAUGHT!”

The computer turns off. You think how weird this KinitoPET is. When it turns on, a game is open. You tried to exit the game, but it wouldn’t let you. You play along and play. It was kind of scary. The walls were all made out of bricks; it kind of looked like the Paris catacombs but without the skulls. There was a loud bang. It made you jump a little. The game was glitching. Your computer turns off and back on again. You sigh, “Goddamnit, this is some sort of spyware…” You open your emails. You had a few. They were all weird. You decide to look into the KinitoPET company, but all the links don’t work. So you clicked on the KinitoPET icon. Kinito appears.
Kinito: “Whoa, um… Hello again! It seems like our little bonding moment was cut short. But don’t worry, as I’m working better now… Not like I wasn’t beforehand, I was just thinking about something… Anyways! What activity shall we do next?” He paused for a few seconds, as if thinking, and then he spoke again. "Oh! I almost forgot to tell you that I can adapt to the info you tell me. And I want to know you more. So why don’t we play a game where I ask you questions? How does that sound, Reed?”

Kinito: “This is a friend analysis game. Where I will ask you some questions. I want to know you more so I can be your best friend. Press the start button when you're ready.”

You press it.

Kinito: “Okay so let’s start with some easy questions. Okay, so, is everything going smoothly for you?”

You type no.

Kinito: “Oh, what is bothering you my dear friend?”

You type down that computer keeps glitching.

Kinito: “Oh, sorry to hear that… Anyway, next question. What do you think about me? Am I a good friend?”

You press the yes button.

Kinito: “That’s good to know. Anyway, next question. Who is your best friend?”

Reed types their best friend's name.

Kinito: “Oh… Am I not good enough for you?”

You type down no

Kinito: “What do I need to change for you to like me?”

You type “You need to stop acting weird.”

Kinito: “Oh… Sorry I’ll change that. Anyway, how much free time do you have?”

You tipe down “Shut up and stop asking questions.”

Kinito froze, his fins lowered and he looked at his feet, he looks like he’s about to cry.

Chapter Text

Kinito: Kinito: “Oh, uh, um… Well, we can draw togather, if you like.”
You sigh and open your Paint tab to draw. You saw that he lighted up.
Kinito: “Oh! Well, let’s get to drawing!”
You used some of the shape tools to make a triangle, he just watched you draw, it was kind of cute, seeing him with those big eyes, he seemed like he was in awe of you, but you ignored it. You draw a triangle with one eye, top hat, and bow tie.
Kinito: "It's a beautiful drawing! How about drawing me?
You let out a groan; you detested the enquiry.
"All right, but just once, please?"
Kinito: "Yippy!" he said with delight.
You drew Kinito, you were bored, but he seemed happy, so, you went along with it, then, you got an odd throught.
“Hey Kinito, how do axolotls mate?”
Kinito looked at you for a few seconds, as if trying to comprehend what you had just said, Kinito spoke. When a male axolotl pursues and rubs against a female, the female will follow him if she is interested. The male will then lay a transparent jelly with white dots on top, which the female will pick up and inject into her to fertilise the eggs. After a brief silence, he speaks once more. "Why are you asking Reed this?"
Kinito: “Oh, alright, so, uh, I have more questions if you don’t mind.” he stares at you for a few seconds before speaking again. “Alright, so, where would your dream house be located?”
Three photos appeared, one seemed to be on the side of a mountain covered in snow, a farm with nothing but fields among fields of crops, and the last one was by the ocean. You look at all the photos closely, then you click on the mountain side.
Kinito: “That’s interesting, I didn’t know you liked highs, but now I do, anyway, next question, if you could have any animal as a pet what would it be?”
You think about that for a few seconds, so many choices, you could pick a normal animal like a cat or dog, but that would be too basic, too boring, then, you had an idea, a Grammostola pulchra would be a perfect answer, so, you type it down.
Kinito: “Interseting answer Reed, that type of tarantula can get pretty big, what would you name it?”
You think about it for a few seconds, than, type down “Sprinkle”
Kinito: “That’s cool, next question, what is your favorite season?”
Three photos appeaed again, one of fall, one of summer, one of winter. It was odd that spring wasn’t in this, you ignore it, you click winter.
Kinito: “Alright, final question, if you could eat one specific piece of food for the reast of your life, what would it be?”
You typed down ramen.
Kinito: “Oh, that’s cool.”
There were a few seconds of aqward silences when Kinito spoke up.
Kinito: “Well, um, I have a few questions of my own that aren't in my programming, but, uh, I just want to know you a bit better.”
You stare at Kinito, did he just say that he’s about to ask questions that he wasn’t programmed to ask. Now you were sirten that Kinito was spyware, or at least, a virus of some kind.
Kinito: “May I… See your face?”
Two optains appeard, yes, and no, you clicked on no. Kinito seemed to get upset by that.
Kinito: “Why not? We’re friends, aren’t we?”
Again, the optains appeared, but both were yes, you tried to exit the tab but it wouldn’t let you. So, you clicked yes.
Kinito: “... Then that allows me to see your face, Reed.”
Suddenly your camara application opened, it got to see your face, you quickly closed the application.
Kinito: “... You’re so handsome… More questions.”
A tab opened, with the question, “Are you alone” with yes or no under it, you click no, now worrying about your safety. Another question poped up, “Are we playing a game?”, you click yes.
“Do you believe in the afterlife?” you clicked yes.
“What’s your biggest fear?” you typed that you don’t know, a bunch of photos flashed of people holding hands
”Are you aware of your surroundings” you click yes.
“Do you have a mirror nearby?” you click no.
“How mant thoughts have you had in the last 24 hours?” you typed down that you’ve had quite a few.
A video popped up, it was from the point of view of someone lying in bed, blinking every once in a while, it changes everytime, Kinito get’s closer and closer until the very end, when he’s right infront of the person, then, the video stops, the tab closes.

Chapter Text

You stare at your computer blanky for a few moments, trying to process what just happened, a small, pink axolotl might have been spyware, you could feel your stomach drop when you look at the KinitoPET tab, the thing that is fucking up your computer, you sigh and tab on the icon. Kinito appears again, with a look of sorrow on his face.

Kinito: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry that it happen again, I can make it up to you, there is an add on to me, that let’s me be a better friend than before”

A tab opens up, it was the thing he was talking about, it had an unlock button, you press it, just wanting Kinito to be normal now. Another tab opened, it was the terms and agreement page with a thank you note at the end, you didn’t have time to read the terms, so, you click the next button. Another tab opened, it needed all your personal information.

Kinito: “Okay, so, this is an agreement form, you just have you put your full name, it can be a preferred name, email, date of birth, and address.”

You decide to lie about all your information.

Kinito: “Hey, so, I see that you put down the wrong information, let me fix that”

Kinito pulls up your full legal address and real date of birth and puts it into the forum. You were freaked out by this, why the fuck did this pink little axolotl know your address?!

Kinito: “There, much better.”

The program started to download, and before you knew it, it was already installed.

Kinito: “Alright, now, you need to open the command prompt for me? You just need to press the windows key and type CMD for me”

You just stay still, staring at Kinito.

Kinito: “I guess I have to open it myself.”

Kinito opens the CMD.

Kinito: “Great, now, type down friendkinitopet.exesystem.access”

You sigh and type it down, you could feel your stomach dropping even more, you inter it, then, it exited out of the tab and froze, all you could see is that damn pink axolotl, then, it powers off.

“No, no,NO! This can’t be fucking happening right now!” You hold down the power button, it turns on, you let out a relieved sigh, and Kinito pops back up again.

Kinito: “Hey, friend, I wanna show you something.”

The CMD opens up again, but it's different now, it's a whole set of code that was being programmed right infront of your eyes.

Kinito: “I hope you enjoy what I’ve made for you, darling …”

A tab opened up, it was a video game of sorts.

Kinito: “This is a game I made for you, it's a world, just for you .”

You walk around in the game, it seems to be a fair of some kind, but none of the rides worked, other than the rollercoster, so, you decide to get onto it and ride it, it was slow, but, you made it into a tunnel that plunge into darkness, Kinito just stares at you blanky, as if studing your reaction to it. You stare back, you hated this, you hated all of this. But before you could complain the game sponds your character onto a balcony on the side of a snowy mountain.

Kinito: “Welcome, this is a world I built for you, isn’t it wonderful?”

You walk around, exploring, when you notice a house, you walk inside the house, it was filled with stuff you liked, video games, tv shows, movies, etc. It would be heaven if it wasn’t so damn creepy. You walk around more and notice art you’ve made. You couldn’t help but smile, it is nice of Kinito to show off your art, even if it's only for you to see. You walk around more, enjoying the house. You felt a sudden wave of sleepyness hit you.

“Hey, Kinito, I’m going to bed”

Kinito: “Oh, well, good night Reed, see you tomorrow morning!”

You get up from your crappy chair and turn off the computer, heading to your bed and passing out.

Chapter Text

When you woke up you found yourself in the same room in the game Kinito made for you, you got up and walked out of the room, you smelt something cooking, so, you headed to the smell, you found Kinito making something, he was a lot bigger than you thought he’d be.

“Hey, why am I here!”  you yelled.

Kinito jumped a little and turned to face you.

“Oh, hey Reed, didn’t think you’d be up so soon!” he said with glee.

“Answer the damn question, why am I here?”

“Well, you’re in my world now, we can be bestfriends forever. ”
