Growing Home

Summary:

One unexpected night, Yaga gives Nanami a very important mission: to nanny two babies.

Nanami doesn't want to be a babysitter. And to make matters worse, everyone is watching him. Unfortunately that includes Gojo Satoru.

Chapter Text

Yaga sits behind his desk and crosses his fingers on the wood as he watches the two crying babies in front of him, also lying on the wood.

The crying of a single baby is stressful in itself. Two babies crying at the same time is even worse.

The decision he just made isn't optimal, and if he had a better option, he would make it. But right now, it's all he's got and all he's going to have for a long time.

The only Omega in the school is barely fifteen years old; he's also the only Omega who's likely to become a sorcerer.

Yaga himself knows that judging the ability to raise babies based solely on caste or secondary gender is highly discriminatory and full of stereotypes, which he himself tries to eradicate in his students' education. But as they say... desperate times call for desperate measures.

After all, his wife has flatly rejected the idea of Yaga bringing these babies into their home.

So he did what he had to do.

Footsteps finally echo in the hallways, the sound breaking through the pelting rain in the air.

Seconds later, the door to his office opens and a young teenager peers out from the threshold. His silky blond hair looks straighter thanks to the soaking. Yaga regrets calling him here for this emergency; he must have pulled him out of his dreams.

It is almost three in the morning.

"Yaga-sensei," the young man bows to greet him.

The smell of sweet bread and pastries fills the room. He is clearly an Omega. And Yaga's only salvation at the moment.

Yaga nods, but says nothing more. He doesn't know how to start the conversation without upsetting the boy. Screw it, everything went to hell in a hand basket and now he's going to drag this boy into it. And yet, as soon as the sweet, homey smell of the Omega permeates the walls, the babies stop crying and replace their distressed cries with little spittle-filled whimpers.

Yeah, damn it.

Yes.

What he's about to do sucks, but it's his best option right now.

"What are those...?" the boy asks, taking a step closer to the desk where the babies are squirming.

"I'm glad you asked, Nanami-kun," Yaga replies, his tone firm. "These... these are your new mission."

Stunned, Nanami doesn't seem to understand the weight of Yaga-sensei's words. He just watches the babies quietly whimpering.

In the middle of Yaga-sensei's desk, two chubby babies are waving their little hands, their curious eyes opening to look.

Two babies with pink hair and hazel eyes.

They aren't that small, Nanami noticed.

"Their names are Yuuji and Sukuna," Yaga continues, since Nanami is attentive to the creatures' movements. "They were orphaned not long ago."

At this moment, Nanami raises his eyes and finally meets Yaga's.

"How did that happen? Were they cursed?" Nanami asks, really fascinated.

Yes, he's his best pupil when it comes to solving cases. Nanami's investigative talent is unique in a long time, if Yaga judges harshly.

So it's the older man who pushes a sheet of paper to the end of his desk.

"On this sheet you'll find the reports with the existing information and their backgrounds," Yaga mentions with a sigh. "It's good for you to know."

"You said they were my new mission..." Nanami points, this time analyzing. "Should I take them somewhere?"

It's true, Nanami hasn't been on any real missions yet, since he's still a first year student. He had planned to send him on some kind of mission soon, together with his classmate Haibara, but this happened now and it's much more urgent.

"The mission details are on the first printout of the report." Yaga sighs. "Basically... your mission is to take care of these two babies until further notice."

The young Omega blinks a few times after hearing this. Yaga can see him frown in slow motion.

"My mission will be to nanny these babies," the Omega snaps, his scent of discomfort manifesting itself in the bitter smell of smoke, as a kitchen stove. As if something is burning.

"You're the only one who can do this, Nanami."

"That's because I'm an Omega. Isn't that right?" Nanami counters, breathing angrily.

"The mere presence of your scent just calmed the cries of those babies." Yaga replies. "Of course you did. If you read these babies' medical records more carefully, you'll see why they're so important." The man looks at the babies. "I wouldn't trust this mission to anyone who wasn't trustworthy. And I believe you have the best qualities. You're reliable and responsible."

Nanami silently shakes his head. He is not happy with this result and doesn't bother to express it.

"As reliable as any Omega when it is about to raising babies."

"These are no ordinary babies, Nanami-kun."

The blond boy clicks his teeth. He didn't come here to be a nanny. He came here to learn.

"His wife is a Beta, a female. She also has the ability to..."

"For now, take them to your room at the school." Yaga stands up, interrupting his student authoritatively. "You will be given the appropriate facilities tomorrow."

Nanami remains silent, watching the older man intensely.

"It's an official order, Nanami," Yaga finally adds, hating that it has to be like this.

Then, understanding the purpose of the matter, Nanami picks up the babies and puts them in a double stroller in the corner of the office. Surely they were brought there. His feet drag lazily across the wooden floor. Nanami has to use every ounce of his willpower.

"Shit," he says, gritting his teeth as he leaves the room with the stroller and the babies.

"You haven't even taken care of them for a day and already you want to teach them bad manners?" Yaga adds.

Nanami just grunts at him and leaves the office, pushing the babies in the stroller.

Kento had barely slept a few hours. All night long, he had been reading the documents that Yaga had written on the sheet of paper, while at the same time soothing the cries of the babies every time they woke up. Yuuji and Sukuna, those were their names. Orphaned for a few days, a special class mission was assigned to bring these babies to the school grounds. Sorceress Yuki Tsukumo was in charge of the mission.

According to the texts detailed there, these babies were sealed with cursed energy from the womb, housing the future vessel of the King of Curses. And indeed, it was predicted that the baby named Sukuna would win the place, devouring his twin in the process. Both babies were part of a single complement, a compact piece that reflected the rottenness of the perverted mind of whoever performed the procedure.

Poor babies.

The enemy will clearly seek to reclaim their vessels, and so the babies must be kept near the school grounds, with a guardian skilled enough to control the babies' powers.

Babies that can shatter glass with their screams. Kento recently discovered this.

Not that he's afraid of the two snotty little things. But Nanami isn't mentally or physically ready to take care of two babies of that caliber. And yet, the damned mission is classified as the highest danger category. As if it were a monstrously powerful special class curse.

There are two babies, for God's sake!

And just as Nanami was about to lie down on his bed, just as those babies had begun to sleep peacefully, someone knocked on his door.

"Nanami!" He clearly recognized the tone of voice of his best friend and only classmate, Haibara, on the other side of the door. "You weren't in class! Did something happen?"

He almost forgot that it was almost ten in the morning and Nanami hadn't even poked his head out of his room to get some fresh air. He was also starting to worry about feeding the babies. The only thing Yaga had brought a few hours ago were two baby bottles full of milk, he guessed from the color of the liquid.

Before the blond Omega could answer his friend's knock, Haibara entered the room without waiting for permission. Without having time to tidy up his bed, Yu sees him sitting on it, his hair disheveled and two lumps in the middle.

"You're awake!" Yu greets him energetically.

"Please be quiet," Nanami interrupts, standing up immediately and instinctively looking at the babies.

His friend, who has been characterized as an overly enthusiastic and curious person, silently approaches the two small bundles on Kento's bed, following the flow of his friend's gaze. The guy remains silent for what seems like an eternity compared to his usual demeanor. Paralyzed, he watches the two babies sleeping peacefully.

Fearing that Yu has suffered a stroke from the shock, Nanami opens his mouth to explain. But Yu manages to get ahead of him.

"How did you manage to hide your twin pregnancy all these damn months?" Haibara asks, still trying to keep it quiet, but the emotion in his voice overflows. "You always looked thin! Always!"

With a small twitch in his eye, Kento breathes slowly and tries to calm down.

"They're not mine," he says quickly.

At that moment, a soft feeling of mild disgust bubbles up in his gut, his inner Omega reacting to the statement.

Kento doesn't understand at all.

"But..."

"Sit down," Nanami invites him, patting the surface of his bed. "I need to explain everything before you start gossiping. I'm sure the news would turn into a tragedy in less than an hour."

"You have a terrible opinion of me," Haibara refutes. "I thought we were friends."

"I have plenty of proof," Nanami counters. "Now sit down and listen."

Yaga's report was final and grim.

Yuki was no longer at the school, but she left very detailed descriptions of what happened and what she saw there. She described how she rescued those babies and how potentially dangerous they are if they unleash their powers for some reason.

At first, Gojo Satoru listened neutrally and without enthusiasm. After all, it was the report of a successful mission in the past.

But when Yaga began to explain the "second part of the mission", his expression changed from boredom to uneasiness. It would be a special class mission. Who else could they assign such a task to if not him? How could taking care of two orphaned babies be classified as a special class mission?

Before he could refute his master's argument, before he could rant about his reasons for not being involved in such a mission, Yaga mentioned the sorcerer who was assigned to the task.

"Nanami? Our kohai?" Geto Suguru raises an eyebrow and suddenly crosses his arms over his chest. "Because he is an Omega. Am I wrong?"

Gojo remains frozen.

"You're right, Geto," Yaga replies, nodding proudly at his good student's simple and quick solution. "Just as I suspected, his Omega scent managed to make the babies comfortable almost immediately."

Suguru lets out a whistle, silently confirming what seemed to be a more than obvious situation.

"Ieiri," Yaga turns to the young teenager. "I need you to help Nanami with the babies health problems."

"Do you think because I'm a woman, I know something about the health of newborns?" She grits her teeth and chews hard on her strawberry gum.

"You're the best at reversing energy," the elder comments. "And you're the only other person I would trust with the babies if Nanami wasn't at this school."

"And what's wrong with us? Huh?" Gojo bristles, ready to argue with his teacher.

"Geto, though kind, is strangely cunning. He could influence these babies more than he could guide them in the neutrality of their own paths." Yaga says, looking ruthlessly into the eyes of his pupil, who looks back at him with the same seriousness. "You, Gojo... I don't have to say much. I am afraid these babies will wake up dead if I leave them alone with you for a week."

When the albino boy begins to take offense, Yaga continues.

"Your long-term mission will be to assist Nanami Kento if and only if he requests it. Only if he needs protection." Yaga frowns. "The babies seem defenseless, but those who seek them are not. And as long as they remain in the area around the school, they will not come near."

The three teenagers nod, though their faces don't look so happy.

"I'm still looking for a suitable place for Nanami and the babies to stay." Yaga massages his temples and sighs.

"They can stay at one of the Gojo estates," the albino boy offers. "No enemy with a brain would dare enter my territory."

Yaga's sigh sounds almost weary. Suguru looks at his best friend and raises an eyebrow in amusement.

"Sending an unmated Omega to live in the explicit territory of an equally unmated Alpha is a bad idea, Gojo." The man reasons.

"Do you think I would touch Nanami Kento?" Gojo pulls his face into an amused expression. "That grumpy Omega isn't even my type!"

Suguru allows himself the luxury of laughing at this moment.

"Don't make fun of me, fool." Satoru pushes his friend uncomfortably.

"Whether you like it or not, I won't take that kind of risk." Yaga is blunt. "Until I make a final decision, you're free."

With lazy movements and yawns, the three second years leave the principal's office.

.

Faced with this new situation, Gojo Satoru, restless and unable to contain his innate curiosity, goes straight to the school Omega's room as soon as the lunch break is over. Haibara has taken it upon himself to fill them in on the details of how the blond boy is dealing with his new situation.

He knocks on the door three times, the sound disappearing into thin air without any answer.

Out of patience, Gojo turns the doorknob himself and peers in.

The sight takes his breath away for a few seconds.

Right there in front of him, the blond Omega is holding one of the babies in his arms, while his other arm is feeding the baby with a bottle.

There is such concentration on the Omega's face that he doesn't bother to look at him when he says: "I didn't give you permission to enter my room, Gojo-senpai." His voice is soft and calm without taking his eyes off the baby. Anticipating his senpai's reaction, he continues, "Don't make a sound. Yuuji is feeding."

Nanami assumes that he must have understood the context of this. Whether it's Haibara or Yaga, it was only a matter of time before the students of this school found out.

Every time Satoru breathes, the scent of pheromones, combined with the sweetness of a sweet, friendly Omega scent, leaves Satoru's instincts completely unprotected. The restlessness of an Alpha in hunting season ignites within him.

The Omega's room smells good. Too good for his own mind. It's all about Nanami and his sweet comfort, along with the scent of babies that wafts through the air. An Omega taking care of babies.

Gojo has never felt more in agreement with anything.

His instincts tell him that this is right, that everything in this room smells right. Of what is, of what should be. An Omega with babies, that's what Mother Nature intended.

Satoru doesn't know what to do with this feeling in his chest. His inner Alpha gets excited on purpose.

And the overwhelming urge to provide becomes as important as if his chest were about to release a growl to assert his role in this little dynamic.

The truth is he likes Nanami.

Maybe just a little, Satoru suspects.

After all, Satoru is an Alpha and Kento is an Omega. It stands to reason that their instincts would be drawn to each other. Satoru has been aware of this ever since the Omega joined as a rookie earlier this year. It is not common to see Omegas in jujutsu, so Gojo hasn't had much insight into them and how to court them. Except for what is written in his family's books.

But Gojo doesn't pay attention to them. He hardly wants to accept the impulse that his own nature is pushing into his chest. After all, they are more than just animals ready to reproduce. They are rational human beings who choose the course of their lives. They have choices and preferences.

Obviously, the way he looked at Kento was intense, because the Omega now looks back at him, frowning.

"Is something wrong?" The blonde teenager places the sleeping baby in his nest, next to his other brother, who is also sleeping peacefully and quietly.

"I-..." To his own surprise, Gojo does not know what to say until his brain works out something coherent. "Yaga asked me to look after you and the babies."

Okay, that's not exactly what Yaga said, not like that and not with those words. But he can't help but wish it was said that way. With that intention, the intention of his inner Alpha.

The Omega opens his mouth to say something, but in the end, there's nothing to say at this moment.

"Thank you, Gojo-senpai." Nanami nods in agreement. "Your support is appreciated for the sake of these puppies."

Nanami's professionalism is incredible, even in the midst of the environment he creates.

It is so cozy and warm that Gojo does not feel worthy to set foot in the room. The immaculate aura of peace and softness of an Omega and two puppies. An unmated Omega who looks so vulnerable in that sense. Satoru's inner Alpha struggles to distort his view and interpretation.

Fortunately, Satoru is more than that.

"You have my number." Gojo bares all his teeth, grinning from ear to ear. "Anything, anytime, call me."

With that, the Alpha walks away, stamping his feet, trying to clear his lungs of the mesmerizing scent.

His cheeks are flushed and his body is restless. The feeling of wanting to provide and possess twists in his heart.

Well, Gojo will learn to control his restless inner Alpha.

Regardless of their castes, both are human, aware of their actions, and this is a special-rank, long-term mission.

I don't think I'll update this often; I have other writings in progress.
But I needed to "save" this idea to the web, since I'm deleting my Evernote account and don't want to lose my drafts. I don't even know if this idea looks interesting haha

Thanks if anyone has read this!!!!
