“Oooh, Hero, look! There, there! Another egg!”
“Wow, that one's huge!”
And without being asked twice, Kel ran toward the chocolate egg he'd just spotted, still in its colorful wrapping, barely hidden behind a bush. Today was Easter, so their parents had organized a little egg hunt for them in the backyard—well, for them, it was mainly the youngest one who participated seriously, as Hero preferred to let him hunt. There was nothing more pleasant than seeing his little brother having fun and smiling at every chocolate he found on his own—so, he just stood back and watched.
Of course, he'd already guessed all the locations out of the corner of his eye, but... Kel had to be challenged a bit, right? It wouldn't be as fun to give him clues right away.
“Hero, Hero! There's one in the tree!” He cried, pointing at a chocolate bunny stuck between two branches. “Carry me on your shoulders! Come oooon!”
“Haha, yeah, yeah, wait, I'm coming,” Hero said with a laugh, putting one knee on the ground so Kel could climb onto his back, then his shoulders. In just a few seconds, the chocolate was now snatched from its perch—and it was in this contagious good mood that finally, all the chocolates were found, a nice jackpot collected in the basket their mother had provided for them. Now, they were sitting next to each other on the terrace chairs, both having deserved a rest after such a hunt. “We had a good hunt today, uh?” He asked while turning to the boy.
“Yeaaah!” Kel enthusiastically replied. There was already some chocolate around his lips, having not waited long before starting to eat a chocolate hen, and it made Hero chuckle. “I can't wait for next year, with even mooore chocolate!”
“Me too—hey, can I have some? I helped you!” Despite his question, Hero wasn't entirely serious when he said it—he didn't really mind if he didn't get to eat some, but on the other hand, he knew Kel wouldn't be able to actually refuse him. Knowing this, the answer he received didn't surprise him.
“Hmmm... because I'm nice, yeah, you can!” Immediately, he slid a box across the table toward his brother—the illustrations all around it suggesting that there were lots of different-shaped chocolate pieces inside: bunnies, bells, stars... and hearts.
“Thanks, you're the best,” Hero praised him as he ruffled his hair with one hand, making Kel laugh.
Their parents were inside the house, fully trusting their eldest son to watch over Kel and make sure he didn't get hurt, and Hero took his responsibilities very seriously. Which also gave them a little alone time together—and neither of them were going to complain about that. Especially when he opened the offered box and checked the list of chocolates on the side.
“Hey, Kel,” Hero called out to him, turning to Kel and holding a heart-shaped chocolate in one hand.“Want to try this one?”
Kel looked up, more brown stains around his mouth and even on one of his cheeks, before frowning.
“That's not dark chocolate, right?!”
... oh. There were indeed some in the box, yes, as well as milk and white ones. It didn't take long for Hero to understand why he'd received this box of chocolates out of all the ones their parents had bought.
“... aaah, so that's why you gave me this box, uh? Because there's dark chocolate in it?” Hero teased. After all, he knew Kel found dark chocolate too bitter, and seeing the look on his face, he knew he'd been right. “Nah, don't worry, this one's milk chocolate. Do you want it?” Unsurprisingly, the little boy nodded enthusiastically at the thought of eating a chocolate he liked, and as he reached out to grab it, his brother giggled. “Wait, I have an idea.”
Then, Hero moved closer to Kel, so that their shoulders touched and, tenderly, fingers rested on the younger one's soft cheek—the one that wasn't stained with chocolate.
“Open your mouth and keep the heart between your teeth—don't bite into it yet, okay?”
It was a rather strange instruction, but Kel nodded quickly with a smile. Then, as promised, the piece of chocolate found itself between his little lips, his eyes sending a curious glance toward Hero. What was he planning to do, now? Was he torturing him by saying not to eat it?! Nevertheless, the answer came quickly as his older brother moved closer again, glancing quickly toward the bay window—as if to check that their parents weren't there, watching them, before finally nibbling on the other part of the chocolate heart.
Their lips were close, so close they brushed and—
Oh.
Kel got the message and bit into the chocolate too, then almost threw himself into Hero's arms, sealing their lips together for good.
A sweet, soft kiss, the chocolate slowly melting on their tongues as they danced together when, a little reluctantly but necessary, Hero pulled away—his face pink.
“W—wow, that was good!” The little boy gushed, his smile so big it could almost blind someone. “I never thought of kissing with chocolate like that! Can we do it again?!” He excitedly asked, stars in his eyes, but still, Hero rushed to signal him to lower his voice, afraid it would attract attention.
“Shhh, Kel, shhh! Mom and Dad aren't supposed to hear us talking about this, remember?”
Because if their parents somehow found out that the two siblings were in love with each other and secretly kissing... that would be bad. Really, really bad, and neither of them wanted to be separated. So, they had to be discreet—and that's why most of the time, they were affectionate with each other when they were in their shared bedroom, where they were usually alone together the most.
Just this once, Hero had given in to a selfish impulse.
“Yeah, yeah, that's our secret! I know!” Kel resigned himself, running his tongue between his teeth to find the bits of chocolate that were still stuck. Then, he once again grabbed the hen he'd started to eat—the head and half a wing already deep in his stomach. “Anyway, we have aaaall this chocolate to eat!”
It was the best way to quickly make himself sick, but Hero didn't say anything for now and simply giggled. Ah... he loved his little brother so much, he was so adorable. Well—he probably loved him a little too much compared to what he normally should, but no one else was supposed to know that. A secret just between them.
