Chapter Text

If I don’t say it now i will surely break.

We lay on the balcony, close to one another, on the couch that stretched from one side of the window to the other side of the door.
Our hands were tightly intertwined, and my other hand rested on his stomach, over a loose vintage shirt, gently pressing from time to time.
His free hand played with my hair, occasionally brushing back strands that had fallen onto my forehead.
He took a deep breath and whispered:

“Tell me.”

My breath paused for a few seconds.

I began to release my hand from the tight grip, slowly, so gently he didn’t notice at first.
But the moment he felt the cold breeze against his palm, after our hands had been bound together for two hours, he immediately pulled my hand back into his.

“Tell me,” he repeated.

I didn’t answer.

The words were ready to come out, trying to open the door—only every time with the wrong key that didn’t fit the lock.

“Please,” he whispered, pleading.

I looked up into his eyes, which were already looking back at me.

Their green color shadowed by the night sky, making it hard to even see his pupils.
His gaze moved back and forth between my eyes, as if he couldn’t decide where to look—where the truest truth lay, where the deepest shade lived.
He struggled to choose, and in the end, his eyes dropped to my lips.

He let out a quiet sigh of relief.

“I don’t love you.”

quite.

He gripped my hand tighter.

a car passing by.

His eyes went up to look into mine.

And after a brief moment, something inside him gave way—
He let go of my hair, released my hand, and instead wrapped both arms tightly around my body, pressing me close, burying his face in my neck, holding me as if to make sure not even the slightest distance could grow between us.

”baby” he whispered to my skin.

I pulled him closer, feeling the warmth of his body against mine. I kissed his hair, my lips lingering there for a few seconds, there was a quiet intensity in the way he rested his head against my chest.

“thank you" was his last words before fell asleep.
