Chapter Text
"Hyung.."
Min Yoongi heard a voice in his head. It must a dream, because he had his head in his arms in the work studio. He grunted as he shifted his head to a more comfortable position.
"Hyung..."
There it was again. Yoongi decided to wait until the voice leave his head. He wanted to continue the dream he had - the one where he was wetting his feet in the sea, the saltiness in the air giving such a fresh change from the dusty Seoul environment, the calming sound of the waves much unlike the busy traffic of the city, the vast skyline so different from the forest of buildings that he saw every time he looked out the window. Everything seemed so real he could feel himself lulling back to slumber...
"Aish.. Hyung, wake up. I'll.. I'll kiss you if you don't. Ah, oh.. "
Yoongi's eyes fluttered open as he raised his head slowly, cracking his neck out of habit. His eyes adjusted to the darkness around him, the only source of light coming from his working computer. He squinted at the shadow of a person in front of him and gave Park Jimin a look that radiated annoyance of the highest level. Jimin seemed to shrink under his glare.
"What do you want?" His voice came out deep and groggy.
"I just wanted to wake you up. It's past 3am, let's go back to the dorm."
Yoongi glanced at the tiny clock on the computer screen. True enough, it was already 3:17am. He took a deep breath. If only he wasn't too tired he'd walk up to where Jimin was standing and he'd strangle the younger right there and then for waking him up.
No one, no one, wakes Min Yoongi up from his sleep. No one wants to face the wrath of the Genius Min Yoongi and the strings of curses that flow out of his mouth. No one wants to be the receiving end of Min Yoongi's death glare, for Min Yoongi has such a glare that could belittle you in ways you won't like feeling like.
No one dares to wake him up, no one, except for Park Jimin.
Jimin doesn't care much for Yoongi's antics - he's intimidated by them like everyone else, of course, but he knows he can get away with it. He can pinch Yoongi's cheeks while the man sleeps and still get away with it. He can get away with anything if it's Min Yoongi.
It didn't use to be like that, though.
Park Jimin was just a normal Busan guy when Yoongi first met him. He was the last to enter the group, but he wasn't shy. He was chummy, he talked a lot (still does), he laughed a lot, and he disturbed the others a lot. He made home in their otherwise plain dormitory in just a matter of a few days. His personality is that like a puppy that always needs attention and needs to be played with.
At first Yoongi was annoyed that someone as bubbly as Jimin tried to coax him into talking. Yoongi didn't like to mingle much. He preferred the solace of his solitude. He only talked when he was talked to. His only content in his life (pre-Park Jimin) was his music.
Min Yoongi loves music. He wasn't good at communicating. He used to be an introvert until he found music. Music helped him. Music gave him the freedom to express himself. Music gave him a purpose. That was when music became his life.
They said if you do what you love, you don't have to work a day in your life. That was his motto. He swore he was going to produce music. His goal was to become one of the world's renowned music producer, to share his music with the world, to leave the coldness of reality to a more colourful dream where he can see every burst of bass and taste the palpitations of hearts as gyrating bodies move to the beat of his music.
However - there is always a "however", isn't there? - when Park Jimin entered his life, he realized he lacked feelings and empathy.
It became clear that the younger's eagerness and enthusiasm completed their group. They needed someone like Jimin - someone who listens and cheers them on, someone who so selflessly thinks of everyone else first before himself, someone who doesn't seem to mind to be the joke of their group in order to have everyone laugh and keep their moods light.
It became clear that Park Jimin is very, very much needed.
In all honesty, Jimin minds. He minds it a lot. He's a person. A person with feelings. Which sensible person doesn't feel hurt to be joked about and teased about everyday? To be the lowest in their hierarchy order. Even the maknae has a higher rank than him. But he keeps it inside. He knows that it was all for the camera, all for laugh, all for their fans - all for the sake of entertainment. So he has never said a word.
But Yoongi saw through all of Jimin's facade. Being an autophile, he understands all the self contradicting thoughts all too well. But he failed to apprehend why.
Why does Jimin do it? What does he benefit from it? It doesn't make Jimin feel good about himself, so why?
Yoongi had never asked Jimin this. He didn't want to know. He didn't want to involve himself in things that are not favorable to him. But he would be lying if he said he's not curious.
He had all those opportunities to ask Jimin why, too.
Whenever Jimin saw that Yoongi was in distress, he'd be there with a cup of coffee, knowing just how black his hyung likes it, and a listening ear. Even though Yoongi never said much to Jimin, but his presence alone is always comforting enough. Jimin would just sit there quietly as Yoongi sipped his coffee. Jimin would stay until Yoongi let out a contented sigh. He would then look up from his phone or book to Yoongi, smile that smile of his - the one that turns his eyes into crescents of happiness and makes his pinchable cheeks even fluffier - and leave Yoongi to his work again.
Yoongi would be lying if he said he's not interested.
That smile of Park Jimin - Yoongi found himself ensnared by Park Jimin's smile.
He would return Jimin's enticing eye smile with one of his gummy one and watch Jimin leave peacefully knowing that he helped boost Yoongi's confidence.
Yoongi didn't know how Jimin's smile made him smile.
So, that was it.
Even though Jimin didn't know why, but he always seemed to get away with anything if it's Min Yoongi.
It was a showdown of glares in the dimness of the work studio at 3:17 am between Min Yoongi and Park Jimin.
Jimin, who was standing compared to Yoongi who was sitting, knew he had the upper hand in the stare-down. But this was Yoongi hyung - the one whose glares could burn a hole to the back of his head. Yoongi had that lazy look on his face, his gaze so strong he could break down walls and walls of brick even though they might be stacked up together behind each other, not blinking as he stare back at Jimin.
Jimin finally looked away, with a slight blush tinting his cheeks. He was glad that the room was dark and Yoongi couldn't see it.
Yoongi smirked slightly.
"Let's go back, hyung. It's late."
Yoongi switched off the computer, not bothering to save whatever that was on it, knowing that it had been saved hours ago before he fell asleep. He walked towards the door in silence, knowing that Jimin was walking behind him. He felt Jimin slowly linking his arm around the crook of his elbow, and he let him be. Jimin smiled triumphantly as they walked out of the work studio.
Again, Park Jimin got away with something that was Min Yoongi.
