Chapter Text
Our story starts with a sudden gush of wind, carried by several ginormous, winged black creatures---thestrals. Seven people, two of which, all with a unique-looking coat of arms etched into the seats steered them. Inside the luxurious carriage sat two people, they were undoubtedly brothers and sisters as they shared the same ring worn on their ring finger and handsome features.
Eliza Greengrass and her brother, Edward Greengrass. The others were the family servants. Two led the party, while the remaining three spread evenly behind the carriage, their wands raised.
The Greengrass family, one of the few remaining pureblooded families in the wizarding world were extremely wealthy and like most purebloods, they loathe and despise muggle-borns. Even the servants were at least half-bloods. They were invited to the wedding of the Nott’s, another pureblood family.
This was Eliza’s first time outside in a rather long time. Ever since she’s shown the family powers, she and her parents were determined to gain the most control of them, therefore Eliza has spent nearly a year, mostly in the family library reading books on spells, curses and ancient dark magic (though she didn’t tell anyone about that).
Over and over, she practiced which was vastly difficult as she had no wand to wave. But she finally managed to make plants grow, vanish small objects and so on. Eliza was mildly proud of herself; it had been a long time since someone in the family could perform non-verbal spells at such a young age and so well too.
She smiled, as the thestrals continued to speed forward.
Eliza was getting a little bored after twenty minutes of silence, she was just about to ask Edward how much longer they had to fly when a distant, shrill scream caught her ears. She thought she had imagined it but then a second scream, a louder one rang in her ears. Curious, she stood up and opened the window but couldn’t see anything way up in the clouds.
“Turn back.” She said to the driver.
“Miss Greengrass we’re going to be late.”
“I know, please it’ll only take a few minutes, and dive down, won’t you?”
The sound was coming from a cave, Eliza could faintly see three people, one in front the other two huddled together as if something was frightening them. They had dived even deeper, and this time Eliza could finally see clearly. It was a boy, a boy was standing against the two others, and he was muttering something, almost like an incantation. Suddenly, the boy wheeled around and stared directly into Eliza’s eyes.
The carriage was impossible to see muggle or pure as there was a very powerful enchantment protecting it yet somehow, Eliza felt that the boy could see her, he was a very handsome boy, with dark brown eyes and extremely pale skin, as if he had hardly ever been outside; his clothes were battered, and his shoes were nearly falling apart.
“Well Ell, can we fly back up now?”
Edward asked gently. Eliza nodded, her mind still on the mysterious boy.
With a smooth landing the thestrals stopped, they were there. Eric the watchman opened the carriage door and Edward walked out, extended his hand to Eliza, and together they walked inside. They found their parents, who were having a small conversation with the Rosiers. Edward and Felix Rosier were close friends and after gesturing to Eliza, walked away chatting. Thus, Eliza was off, looking for her friend Alexandra Yaxley when she bumped into someone.
“Careful Eliza.” Astonished, she looked up and a handsome aged man was smiling down at her.
“How do you know my name?”
“You’re wearing the Greengrass family ring, and they only have one daughter, you, Eliza Greengrass.”
“Yes, I’m Eliza, who are you?”
“My name is Gellert Grindelwald, you can call me Gellet.” Grindelwald said, holding up his hand to shake.
Eliza was stunned, Gellert Grindelwald, THE Gellert Grindelwald was in front of her and waiting to shake her hand!
“Grindelwald is powerful, very powerful. He has a great mind and excellent skills.”
“He gained more supporters in Berlin, that man will become a legend, you mark my words.”
Flashes of what her parents had said flooded Eliza’s mind. Slowly, as if she were unsure whether this was a dream or not, she shakes his hand, trying very hard to act calm.
“Pleasure to meet you Eliza, you have extraordinary talents.” Grindelwald said and walked away. She stood there, her shaken fingers still trembling a bit.
“What are you doing here, the wedding’s about to start soon.” It was Alexandra.
“Alright, let us be gone.” Eliza said, still feeling dazed.
The wedding progressed, Eliza watched in silence as the bride entered, the young couple switching the rings and cutting the cake. So much had happened in one day that she felt quite overwhelmed. It wasn't until her brother Edward poked her did she notice that the crowd had gone extremely quiet, all looking at the doorway. She turned too, and Grindelwald was there holding up a glass of wine, raising it, and said:
“To the Nott’s.”
“To the Nott’s” The crowd chanted. Grindelwald winked at Eliza and before anyone could approach him, vanished with a graceful turn, leaving the guests muttering in amazement.
