Work Text:

Cabin 20 was the most boring cabin in existence.

Well, at least to Cadet Torrington it was.

She’s rather be in Hogwarts with her friends and stuff, not stuck in her cabin because her siblings refused to let her leave. “Why though? Why won’t you let me leave?” Cadet asked as she packed her hair into a bun. “I feel like Rapunzel in here.” She whined, flicking her wand aimlessly as her best friend, Doris, laughed at her misfortune. Doris was her half sister who also went to Hogwarts. “Shut up, Dory. You’re stuck here with me too, remember?” At that, the dark skinned girl stopped. Hazel sighed as she looked at both of them. “Lady Hecate gave us a note demanding that we shouldn’t let you two leave the cabin.”

“Why does she care? She never gave a fuck about her kids, so why does she want to start now?” Doris exclaimed in frustration and Cadet nodded in agreement. One of the other kids, Nadja Alatyrtsev, scoffed from her spot in her bed. “She doesn’t care about us. Just you two.” She said as she applied her makeup.

“How does it feel to be living our dream?” Doris said, standing up. “You know what, fuck this. We’re going outside and Hecate can fuck off.” She said angrily, dragging Cadet out of the cabin. Said girl was lost in her thoughts. The only reason her mom cared for her was probably because of how Alabaster turned out.

 A traitor.A fucking traitor

Dead. Alabaster had turned out dead. And she probably didn’t want either her or Doris to turn out like that. Her mom didn’t really care about her or Dory. Did she? No. She couldn’t

Cadet was snapped out of her thoughts when Doris suddenly stopped. She looked up to see her half sister talking to someone in ASL and immediately knew who that was. “Hey Hermione.” Cadet signed, hugging the shorter girl.

The girl had temporarily lost her voice, so they had to communicate with sign language. “Hey. How is it going over here?” Cadet sighed at Hermione’s question. “Good.” She lied. “Did they tell you when it’d be safe for me to go back to Hogwarts?” Cadet signed and Hermione shook her head. Sighing, she looked at at the lake but paused when she saw a group of people hanging out by the lake. She smiled and walked ahead to go meet them.

Just as Cadet got to them,Jason Grace, Cadet’s boyfriend, pulled her down to sit by him. “Hey witchy.” Jason said, enveloping her in a tight hug. “Why in Davinci’s name were you  both cooped up in your cabin for a week?” Leo exclaimed, which confused Cadet. Davinci? What did she miss?

“Mommy issues.” Doris replied, sprawling out on the floor like a starfish. Percy looked at her from his spot in between his boyfriends with an imperceptible look on his face.“Hecate?” He asked in disbelief, staring at her. “Yep.” She replied, popping the ‘p’. Percy decided to drop it. Leo decided to change the subject.

They all talked and played games until it was time for dinner, which Doris wanted to skip out on, but unfortunately for her, Nadja wouldn’t let her. That night was the first in a long time that Cadet didn’t tribute any food to her mother.

After dinner, Cadet said good night to her boyfriend and friends and walked straight to the Hecate cabin and flopped down onto her bed.

Hermione walked in a little after her and went to her bed. That was a perk of being a witch. She didn’t have to stay in the Hermes cabin because she fell under Hecate’s domain.

After a while, the other Hecate kids began coming back, but by then, Cadet was already fast asleep and in her dream space.

“What is it, Alabaster? What do you want?” She said, staring at the ghostly figure of her brother standing right before her. He gave her an unimpressed look before replying. “You know why I’m here, Cadet, so stop acting like you don’t. Come on. Let’s get going.” He said, holding out his hand. She took in a deep shaky breath before taking his hand. “Are you ready?” He said, looking at her. “This is why I hate you 80% of the time.” She mumbled under her breath before nodding. “It’s just a few hours, right? I’ll just be gone for a few hours?” She asked and Alabaster nodded. She sighed and squeezed his hand gently, signaling for him to get it over with. In the blink of an eye, they were both gone.

Meanwhile, outside of the dreamscape, Cadet’s body went limp. No one noticed, seeing as they were all asleep, but Cadet Morris Torrington was dead.
