“Hoonie,” Jaeyun whispers one night, as they are stargazing, “do you believe in alternate universes?”
“Hm?” Sunghoon turns to look at him, eyes curious. “Why do you ask?”
“Well… there’s this theory. It states that a universe exists for the choices you don’t make in your own universe.” He explains. The younger boy hums attentively, motioning for Jaeyun to continue, which he does albeit with a hint of sadness in his voice. “… and I was wondering… if that’s true, then are there universes where… we aren’t together…?”
Sunghoon stares at him quietly for a moment, before he gently gathers the older boy into his arms. Jaeyun relaxes into it, snuggling into the raven’s chest as he replies, “if that’s true, although we can’t really know for sure, then the Sunghoons in those universes are stupid.”
A surprised laugh escapes Jaeyun’s lips. He slaps Sunghoon’s chest when he sees him smirk playfully. “What? I don’t care if they’re also me. I don’t claim any Sunghoon that doesn’t have a Jaeyun in their life. It’s their loss.”
“You love me that much, huh?” The brunet boops Sunghoon’s nose, giggling. Sunghoon mischievously nibbles on the tips of his fingers in response, making him laugh even harder.
When the laughter dies down, Jaeyun hesitantly asks, “do you think it would be selfish?”
“What is?” Sunghoon runs his fingers through his hair encouragingly.
“Is it selfish to wish that every version of me has a version of you?” Jaeyun answers, voice turning quiet towards the end.
Sunghoon moves his hand down from Jaeyun’s hair to cup his cheek, gently nudging his head up so they are looking at each other. “No, it isn’t. Because I wish for the same thing, too.”
His thumb caresses Jaeyun’s cheek softly, “but regardless of that wish coming true or not, I already have everything I want.”
“Because in this universe, I have you.”
